Chapter 14 - "CHAPTER 11: (PART 2)CUPCAKE BACK HOME."

Cupcake, my adorable baby, had transformed into a horrifying creature. He had torn down the massive walls behind the mansion with his brute force. Everyone came out to see the destruction he had caused. I felt a mix of fear and love for him, and I wanted to go to him. Emma stopped me and pointed at his eyes. "Don't do it!" she said. "He's out of control. He's ready to kill anyone who crosses his path. He's not himself anymore. Look at his eyes. They're supposed to be green when he mutates, right? But they're red now. Something's wrong with him." She was right. His eyes were filled with rage and madness, and he made terrifying noises like a wild beast. He was huge, over fifty feet tall, . His claws were like swords, and his teeth were like spears. He jumped towards us with a roar, aiming to destroy us. I was paralyzed with fear, but Percy acted fast. He stood in front of me and used his ice powers to freeze Cupcake in his place it acted as a barrier of ice between us and Cupcake. The barrier slowed him down, but only for a moment. He broke it with one swipe of his paw and attacked Percy. Percy tried to dodge, but he was too late. Cupcake's claw cut him deeply on his chest, and he flew back from the force. He landed on the ground, bleeding heavily. Cupcake raised his paw again, ready to end his life. Percy looked at me with pain and fear in his eyes. "Run!" he yelled. "Run for your lives! I can't hold him off for long. You have to get everyone to safety. This place is no longer safe." I wanted to help him, but I couldn't move. I had seen many of my classmates die before my eyes, and I had felt guilty but numb. But this was different. This was Percy, my friend and protector. And this was Cupcake, my sweet and loyal companion who had somehow turned into a nightmare. I couldn't leave them behind. I couldn't hurt either of them. I ran towards Cupcake and stood between him and Percy. I looked into his eyes and begged him. "Cupcake, please stop! Don't hurt Percy! Don't hurt anyone! You're not yourself my baby! You're being controlled by someone or something! Please remember me! I'm your Aana! I love you, Cupcake!" For a moment, his eyes changed with recognition and confusion. They started to turn green again, the colour of his normal self. But then they changed back to red, as if someone had flipped a switch in his brain. He roared again, louder than ever, and raised his paw to strike me down. I could have used my powers to open a portal under him and send him somewhere else, or to burn him to ashes with fire. But I couldn't do it. He was still my baby, no matter what he looked like or what he did. I knew I was going to die, but it didn't matter to me anymore. I just wanted him to be free from whatever was tormenting him.

I was frozen with fear as the monstrous creature my own baby cupcake lunged at me, its razor-sharp claws ready to tear me apart. I had no chance of escaping or fighting back. I closed my eyes and waited for the inevitable end. But then, something miraculous happened. Percy, who had been lying on the ground with a deep wound on his chest, suddenly leaped into the air with a burst of energy. He looked completely healed and powerful, as if he had tapped into some hidden source of strength. He grabbed the creature's claws with thick vines that sprouted from his hands, the same kind of vines that the undead had used yesterday. My baby, which I had nicknamed Cupcake because of its fluffy fur and cute face when it was a normal teacup Pomeranian puppy, roared in fury and pain. Its roar was deafening, like a thousand lions roaring together at the same time. Percy split the ground into two with a wave of his hand and buried the vines deep into the earth, trapping Cupcake in a tight grip. He flew high in the air and hovered above Cupcake's head. He placed his palm on Cupcake's forehead and tried to calm hin. It seemed to calm Cupcake down, as if he was soothing its mind. Then, a miracle happened. Cupcake shrank back into its original form, a tiny and adorable puppy that looked harmless and innocent. It got lost under the vines that still wrapped around it. I ran towards it and freed it from the vines. I took Cupcake in my arms and started shouting at him as if he would apologize for trying to kill us. But then Percy interrupted me and said it wasn't his fault. Someone had taken control of his mind and took him under control. He added angrily that only one person other than him had the ability to manipulate minds. I asked him calmly who that person was and why he wanted to harm us. He didn't answer me directly. Instead, he asked me why I didn't run away when he told me to. He said I was an idiot for standing between him and Cupcake, risking my life for nothing. He said it was the worst possible way to die and asked me if I ever thought about myself. He said if he had been a second late, I would have been dead. He stopped mid-sentence and looked at me with concern in his eyes. He said all this in a rapid and angry tone, but I could sense the worry behind his words. I knew he cared about me more than he showed.

I was used to getting lectures because I had a habit of causing trouble, but this time I felt like I had done what I wanted to do. I replied sarcastically that he wouldn't have died if I had come in time and stood between him and Cupcake. I asked him why he intervened when Cupcake was about to kill me, even after getting hurt himself. I asked him why he told us to go when he stayed behind to face Cupcake alone. I said all this in a defiant and challenging tone, but I could feel the gratitude behind my words. I knew he saved my life more than once.

He became calm as he realized we were both on the same boat. He said nothing more than "just because I care". I asked him why he cared about me and pointed out that no one cared about anyone else in this cruel world where we had to fight for our survival every day. He replied with a smirk that he was not that good of a human being and that he just saved his own life by saving mine, because I was... He trailed off and changed the subject quickly. He said I had asked him one question and he had answered more than one, so he had to go now. He ran to his room before I could say anything else.

I thought I could never get this person to be honest with me or with himself. With Cupcake still in my arms, I stood there feeling confused and frustrated.

Emma came to me and teased me by asking if I was in love with Percy. I said "whatever" and tried to act cool. She asked me why I saved Percy when my own life was at stake. I said "I don't know" and ran to my room to avoid the topic.
