Chapter 26 - Quagmire I

The next three days went by like a breeze.

There really wasn't a time to be bored. If we weren't going out to visit some places in the capital, then I was home reading my books, going to visit Donellan while training and eating good food.

I won't lie, but I was starting to miss home a little, I felt like I hadn't seen Gwendolyn and the others for a long time.

On this particular day however I didn't have any plans.

I was having breakfast with Donellan, when he told me someone would be coming over today. Looking confused, I asked him who would be coming over, but all he said was that it would be a surprise.

While walking back to room, I ran into Hecate and asked him if he knew who would be coming over.

"I believe you already asked your father this and he told you it was a surprise correct?"

Hecate said with a sly smile on his face.

Feeling annoyed by his attitude, I stuck my tongue at him and ran to my room.

Yeah wasn't my best moment, but my mind was too preoccupied to think of a smart comeback to put Hecate in his place. Plus that would only be playing into his little games.

For some reason, Hecate seemed to like when I argued with him, why that is, I'll never know. If there's one thing I learned from my trash of a family was never to try to understand people who clearly weren't right in the head.

I already had an idea of who might be coming over, but I really hoped that I was wrong.

Not only did I not want to see him, but it would be extremely awkward if I was forced to interact with him.

If there is a god out there, please let my suspicion be wrong.

Ugh, I should've known. If there was a god, then he clearly did not favour me considering how the very person I didn't want to see, was here.

Donellan made us stand near the entrance to greet our guest and I couldn't help but look at him weirdly.

This guy never cared for manners nor decorum so why was he making this meeting so official.

But upon seeing who it was, I understood why he was doing all of this, or at least part of the reason.

Even when it came to royals, Donellan didn't care much for them at all. And I think everyone knew this, even the royals themselves.

I gave him a pointed look, which he purposefully ignored, and I could see an inkling of a smile on his face. I'll definitely get you for this I said to him mentally.

Hecate made sure to welcome Prince Amethyst in alongside his entourage.

Looking at him again, he really did look like an angel, however he had the personality of a demon.

I looked to the side and noticed that there was someone standing next to him. This boy didn't look to be his older brother since his appearance was different.

He looked to be around 12 to 13 years-old and had a handsome face. He had soft features, but one could tell they would sharpen as he got older. He had exquisite golden hair that was swept back with sparkling red eyes.

But what caught my attention the most was his hands that were holding the Prince's.

Noticing my eyes, he squeezed them even tighter.

I could tell he was observing me, so I turned my eyes away paid and them no mind. Since no one was saying anything even after awhile, Hecate took the time to introduce us; the older boy stepped up.

"Hello Lord Grey, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Johannes Van Friedrich." He said respectfully.

I frowned slightly, Johannes Friedrich… why does that name sound so familiar?

My thoughts were interrupted by Donellan. "And why are you here?" He inquired coldly.

Johannes looked a little startled not by what he said but how he said it. I couldn't help but shoot him a look saying 'are you really going to act this way', which he ignored again.

What is with this guy? The air around him got colder and I could tell this guy was going to say something to either offend or scare them away.

"Father, we've been standing near the entrance for too long, let's invite them to the drawing room." I said while grabbing his hand.

He looked down at me and scanned my face for a second before saying: "right, how rude of me." And began walking away. I looked at the two signalling for them to follow us.

Hecate who had been left behind couldn't help but sigh in relief.

If young master Simuel hadn't stepped in, who knows how things might've ended.

He gave Noor a look signalling to get refreshments ready.

Noor wasted no time and left.
