Chapter 11 - Acrimony II

Honestly, if we were back in my world, the words I had just uttered wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

Of course talking back to your teacher isn't something you should do but saying something like this wouldn't necessarily get you in huge trouble. You'd most likely get a warning or if you were lucky, the teacher would simply ignore you.

But in cases like this, it would be best to keep these thoughts as thoughts. They should never be expressed out loud.

Dear readers, you have to understand that under normal circumstances, I would never utter these words out loud, I guess the absurdity of the situation couldn't keep me, who is usually calm in most situation from letting out such an unseemly outburst.

But let's be honest, you guys would've probably done the same or worse. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I could classify what I said as an outburst. I'm pretty sure I mumbled this to myself and Gwendolyn who was beside me probably didn't even hear what I said so the only person that could've heard me was myself.

Maybe Gwendolyn could've heard my comment if she was really listening but that was unlikely. So how in the world did hear me when he's at least 2 meters away from us?!

Oh right, I completely forgot. This is a fantasy world and for some odd reason people have enhanced abilities here.

They can hear things normal people couldn't even if they tried and see things that shouldn't be seen. Even if this guy is a professor it really wouldn't surprise me if he knew a little martial arts or magic and could hear me.

Sigh, I thought to myself. What kind of world have I been brought to.

As if sensing my mind was elsewhere instead of answering his question, Nicolas got even angrier and the air around him got darker.

This quickly snapped me out of my reverie and I was forced to appease the situation. Things wouldn't end well for me if I pissed off my teacher even more than he was at the moment.

"I apologize Mr. Leox , I misspoke. To be quite honest with you, I couldn't comprehend what it was you were trying to say. We agreed to meet at 10 therefore I have arrived at the correct time. It was never specified that class started at 10 and that I had to arrive earlier. I wasn't aware before but I am now."

Haaa, this should be enough to appease him right?

After Simuel finished speaking, the air in the room visibly got lighter and Gwendolyn who was still beside me, was starting to regain some colour.

She wasn't sure what happened but she knew that the young master might've offended Professor Leox somehow although she wasn't sure how. She was relieved to see that the professor wasn't angry anymore.

"Hmph, since you weren't aware before I'll let this slide for now. But you must understand young master that punctuality is a virtue one must strive to have and one I place great importance.

Make sure to always come early so that we may begin our classes at 10 sharp. One thing you must know about me is that I don't like to waste time."

"Neither do I Mr Leox. It won't happen again."

"Alright enough of that, please sit and let us begin."

...

"Today we'll be starting our lesson with some history. Can you tell me how the Novellus Kingdom came to be?" Mr. Leox asked while giving me an intense look.

"Well if I remember correctly, the Kingdom of Novellus used to me an Empire, I believe it was the Aeternus Empire.

The Empire became corrupted and the people were angry because the Emperor at the time was a dictator or tyrant of sorts. Since the people weren't happy, they formed a coup to overthrow the Emperor and the person leading this coup was Julius Avartis the first King.

Since they didn't want to completely abolish the monarchy, and wanted someone to lead the people, the Empire was separated into different regions each having their own respective kings and Julius Avartis was selected as king of what is now known as the country of Novellus."

How's that for an answer, I thought to myself.

Nicolas on the other was quite impressed with the answer this young master had given him.

His answer was detailed yet concise, not giving too much or too little information.

Not bad kid, you passed the second test he thought to himself.

"Yes that is correct young master Simuel. The coup against the Empire lead to the Kingdom of Novellus we have today. Novellus grew larger and became well known for it's many resources, trade and ambivalence.

Out of all the countries in this world we are the friendliest since we get along well not just with our neighbouring countries, Ortus and Lapis but other nations as well.

And of course our country has the largest amounts of magic knights which a good majority of them are under the control of your father Earl Donellan Grey. "

As Mr Leox was saying this, he stood up and faced the window. He didn't say anything for awhile which allowed me some time to process everything he had said.

All this information wasn't anything new per say considering how I'd been reading up on the history of this place the first moment I had arrived here. I knew how incredible the world of "The tales of Earl Grey" was since I had read it but I never really though about it too deeply. Hearing Mr. Leox just reminded me of the fact that this world was no longer a fiction but my new reality.

Meanwhile, while Simuel was in deep thought, Nicolas turned from facing the window to facing the young boy in front of him. Contrary to the reports he had gotten from before concerning this child, the one facing him was much different from what he had expected.

He looked… mysterious and Nicolas couldn't really tell what was going through the boy's mind.

"Interesting." He thought to himself. Let's test this kid a bit more.

"Now young master Simuel, do you have any idea as to why your family is one of the most renown families in this Kingdom despite your father only being an Earl and the only Earl at that?"

Why is he asking me something so obvious?

From what I had read and what has been stated many times, the Grey family was one of the largest contributors in the take over of the Empire. They had a lot of military power and on top of that had great mastery of swordsmanship.

They probably wouldn't have won if it weren't for their help, which is why when Julius Avartis had plans to overthrow the Emperor, he needed to have powerful knights to back him and so he needed to convince the Grey family to help him out.

When given the choice to become the first dukedom in the kingdom for some reason the person at the head of the Grey family at the time Charlemane Grey declined the offer. Since Julius Avartis didn't want to leave the Grey family as it was, he decided to still give them nobility and appointed him as Earl of the Grey family and become the only Earldom in the country and Charlemane was content with that.

However this title never really hindered the Grey household. In fact they still had great power in this country and their reputation only grew from there.

The people were very confused as to why such a great name like Grey was only an Earl. Of course, the reader's of "The tales of Earl Grey" knew the real reason for this and that was because Charlemane Grey felt guilty for overthrowing the Empire.

Of course he knew that the Emperor at the time was not fit to rule, and that if things continued the way they were then the Empire would be ruined. But some of his closest friends and allies were apart of the Empire and it felt as though he was betraying them.

So when he was rewarded and given power no close to that of a King, he refused. Which as a fellow reader I understood why. Still if he hadn't stoped this guy's terror, who knows what might've happened.

I could easily answer this question just by saying what's in the history books, but I had a feeling this wasn't the answer Mr. Leox was looking for. I don't know entirely why, but I had this inkling this dude had been testing me since the beginning.

I could give him an answer based off of what was written in the novel but this information isn't largely known. I don't even think most people working in the Grey family know of this. Spreading information that people aren't aware of could arouse suspicion which could be dangerous for me.

Fine. I guess I've got no other choice but to spill the beans.
