The memories which rushed into her head without warning were making her not want to move , to let that sword rush straight through her throat and finish things for good. The only thing that bothered her in that decision was her promise .'That Goddamn Promise ,she had felt like she shouldn't have made it when she did , UGH , but what was done was done... Thus , she had to go through with it .
The moment she had this thought, her previously nonchalant eyes turned serious when she changed the direction of her sword by turning it and bent her back , raised her left leg and jumped back, completely changing the course of the battle, as unlike before, she was now the one who was attacking.
At this change in the flow of the fight, the king was looking more arrogant and smug than before, because he had already known she wouldn't take his finishing attack lightly and also because he had succeeded in his attempt of angering her more than before.
The king liked the way he was feeling , how he didn't care who was watching , how he didn't care if he won, how he finally got back his only competition, how his blood was pumping fast, and how this felt exactly like how they trained back when they were kids.
The king wasn't the only one who felt that way because the queen was feeling the exact same sensation... and she Loathed it. She knew things couldn't go back to how they were because things were different now, they both had different responsibilities and one of them was to defeat the other.
While thinking this, her thoughts came to an abrupt stop because she had a strategy that may work if the king would behave the way she had wanted, just like it had always been before. Thus she did what she needed to and slipped , falling back with a shocked expression. Her expectations were fulfilled as the next thing her competitor did was to hold her by the waist, but unexpectedly for the king, she hooked on one of his legs with hers and pulled, making him fall along with her while she shifted their positions .
As the sand once again settled , the view the audience saw made them gasp and hold their breaths. The queen of Vensah was standing with her back bent exactly parallel to the Yastaxian king who lay beneath her. But even position was not the most baffling thing as the right hand of the queen was on the hilt of her sword , while its blade was half-buried in the sand right beside the king's neck. The king's face showed a baffled expression.
The next thing the queen did was something she had been having a great urge of doing since the moment the king spoke the first words in the battlefield. So she did what her heart so immensely desired and made an ugly face, copying him " I didn't expect this was what would become of my 'worst' competitor, rather, I expected you to become stronger but it seems all that you did in your sweet little castle was play TEA PARTY!"
The king broke out in an evil sneer while the queen sneered at him vengefully. "Are you sure about that?" and at that precise moment the queen saw a drop of blood fall on his neck and realized a spine-chilling fact. He had his sword at her throat. She had failed to realize it because she thought the cold sensation was from her necklace. She sucked in an alarming breath and closed her eyes. She knew that the onlookers could not see the sword at her neck, because of her cape and hair forming a curtain around the both of them.
' It's evident that the people watching aren't aware I lost as they're cheering my name, so what will he do now? Kill me? proclaim his victory? Well, although I didn't think this was how I was gonna die, it's not so bad.'
Just as the queen had her eyes closed and waited for the sword to end her life, she felt movement from underneath her and opened her eyes to see the king's expression had once again turned cold and he had moved his neck in a way that her sword - which was buried beside him - had gone through his skin, cutting him. Once he seemed to be satisfied with the final product on his neck he moved it away and suddenly disappeared from underneath her.She straightened up in a shock and looked at him as he stood in front of her.
She was confused with his sudden change in attitude but it made her much more comfortable. Contrary to her expectations of this battle ending peacefully by one of them either dying or losing, what the king said next lit her on fire.
"Good luck with your Victory"
He deliberately sounded out the last word in order to spite her as he knew that he was the only one who was aware that she was the one who had actually lost. She HATES losing and knew that , thus he did something that would be unbearable for her and walked away with a nonchalant expression.
