"I take it everyone's waiting for me to get onto Erick?" you ask the class. Inez won't meet your eyes, though Jayden nods with enthusiasm. "I'm not going to. Erick gets to feel how he feels." You address Erick directly. "I will ask you to be less loud about your dislike, though. Some students may come to enjoy summoning."
There's scattered laughter among the students, though Erick doesn't look convinced, but you go on anyway, addressing the whole class. "Here's the thing about summoning. The entire discipline of pattern magic is possible because of cross-universe effects. In studying summoning, you'll learn more about how to work with other universes. And that will make you a better practitioner overall."
"Hear, hear," Jayden says. He claps. No one joins him.
"It's okay to feel like you don't want to be here." You don't look at Erick, but his cheeks redden anyway. "My aim is to show you that summoning can be interesting regardless."
