From the other side of the room, Desmond says, "Dammit!"
Mr. Goodwin rushes to his side. "What's wrong?"
"Look!" He snaps his fingers. A tiny cloud the size of his thumb forms and then dissipates. "That's supposed to fill the room with fog!"
One, that's a stupid choice for intrinsic magic. Create fog? What are you going to do, make everyone clammy and faintly uncomfortable? Two, you're not surprised that Desmond made a mess of his intrinsic magic.
Mr. Goodwin sighs. "Please, everyone, if you have any uncertainty about your chosen pattern, talk to me about it instead of rushing headlong into learning it. I'd like you not to waste this opportunity."
You don't need Mr. Goodwin's check. You know what you're doing, and you're better at this than Desmond. You'll be fine.
