"We're coming too," Will says, looking at Romilly and Grace.
"Of course you are," Max says, giving him an odd look. "You're Head Boy and Girl, aren't you?" He looks at Grace. "You should probably stay here, though," he says.
Grace nods. There's a hazy element to her expression, and you wonder how many drugs Matron managed to get into her. "Sounds good," she says, swaying slightly from side to side.
"Well," Michelle says, "if that's all sorted, we should probably get out there. I doubt our fellow students or Lady Rastan are going to have the good grace to wait for us."
You sigh. She's right.
It's time to go.
You move out of the lab as a group. No one says anything; there's a sense that nothing more needs to be said.
Silently, you move through the foyer. From what you can see of the windows outside, it's clearly late at night. You've not looked at your watch in hours.
When you reach the door, Max reaches out a hand, pulling it open. A moment later, he closes it again, turning to look at the rest of you.
"Right," he says, "quick update. They're right outside. The other students," he adds, looking at your confused expressions. "They're outside right now."
"Ah," Sonia says. "Looks like they decided not to wait around either."
Will and Romilly exchange a nervous glance. "So…what do we do now?" the Head Girl asks.
