You give Michelle the best approximation of "I think that honesty is the best policy and I think that it's best that you be completely up-front with Matron" that you can, but you feel as though there may have been an element of it that was lost in translation. Michelle's looking at you like you've just sprouted another head.
With what she clearly views as limited help from you, Michelle turns to look at Matron. "I had a fight," she says. "Not with another student or anything—this was with an adult."
Matron nods slowly. "I see."
Whether or not they do see, Michelle doesn't seem to be on the verge of offering them more information. Instead, a slightly strained silence spreads between creation and creator. None of the rest of you seem particularly inclined to interrupt.
Eventually, Matron turns to look at the rest of you. "So," they say. "What is the situation? You went to the school for upper-class sociopaths, right?"
There's a faint coughing from Will, Romilly, and Grace at these words, an interruption that Matron completely ignores.
"We did," Sonia supplies. "We found a forest on the outskirts of the place: one that wasn't there yesterday."
Matron nods. "Well, that would be a good indication of unusual activity," they say. "I take it, from the unconscious body in Mister Harrisson's arms, that you ventured inside?"
You all nod. "That's where they found me," Grace supplies helpfully. "We think, maybe, that I was being mind-controlled."
"Mind-controlled." Matron sniffs. "A rather simplified way to put it, but not completely inaccurate."
"The same thing's happened to the students," Max says with a glance at Fritz. "They tried to kill Fritz and Val; we're the only ones who seem to have not gone completely crazy."
Matron takes the news without a change of expression. "I did think that it was rather quieter than usual around here," they say, glancing up towards the ceiling. "I assumed that they had sneaked off to the pub again." They consider for a moment. "These are some extremely serious events. Decoding what's happening here will take some time," they announce eventually. "What do you have for me in terms of research materials? I need facts, insights, information."
