"Bzzzzz!"
Aiden's sweet, warm dreams were broken by the loud buzz of an annoying black fly, which decided that there was nothing better to do in the early morning than play a f*cking alarm clock.
*Yawn!*
Still half asleep, without opening his eyes, Aiden yawned and tried to shoo off the annoying buzzing machine on the loudest mode.
"Bzzzz!"
But the fly didn't back down, and feeling like his job as the most annoying existence on the globe was still not fully fulfilled, the fly decided it would be a good idea to fly right in front of Aiden's face and start to buzz louder, just for the sake of it.
Getting annoyed by the sound, Aiden angrily started to flail around with his 'hands'. But the struggle was useless; he just couldn't get the fly with the reaction speed in the few milliseconds.
"Bzzzz!"
After an especially irritating fly flew just a few millimeters away from his face, Aiden's temper flared to an all-time high, and for some inexplicable reason, a strange thought appeared in his mind, something that normally no human would think of. But on this special morning of this strange day, this idiosyncratic thought still appeared in Aiden's small little head.
And in his half-asleep state, before he could even realize what he was doing, he slowly opened his mouth; there was no turning back anymore.
"Bzz…"
The fly suddenly felt fear like never before; it froze in one place in the air and slowly turned toward the half-asleep Aiden. The fly could only look in despair into the abyss between Aiden's maws, already knowing its tragic fate.
*Ptuu*
Suddenly, from the opened mouth, like a bullet, a long pink tongue shot out, and before the fly could do anything, the wet tongue wrapped around it and dragged it into Aiden's mouth before it could even make another sound. Quickly, forever ending the heroic story of the world's most annoying buzzing machine.
*Gulp-*
And before Aiden had a chance to understand what he was doing, he swallowed his fat prey in one big gulp.
'Wait…-'
Just as he was about to turn on his side again to continue his peaceful sleep, his eyes suddenly popped open in disbelief. It took a few seconds for his brain to comprehend what just happened.
*Agh, agh!*
He tried to gag up the less-than-desirable breakfast, but it was too late; after all, the fly had already fully integrated into the society of stomach fluids and enzymes.
Releasing that the struggle was useless, Aiden quickly gave up; not to mention, he had way bigger things to worry about than some unexpected protein intake.
'What the f*ck?!?"
He looked around in disbelief after noticing that instead of his cozy bedroom, strangely, he found himself on the shore of a lake. Not just any lake; a big ass lake with big ass trees, big ass rocks, and big ass greenery. He was surrounded by some reeds gently swaying in the morning breeze that were at least twenty times bigger than him.
'Wait, maybe not; things got bigger... I just got smaller.'
Aiden wondered in disbelief, more and more confused by this certainly unusual morning.
'Maybe I'm still dreaming...'
All kinds of strange theories raced in his head, as at this point, he felt like even with the help of the most wondrous magic mushrooms on earth, his brain couldn't fart up something like this, not to mention during a normal dream...
But he still couldn't just arrive at an early conclusion like that without proof. So as the representative of the most intelligent species of apes, he still had to test if he was dreaming or not. Deciding on the most ancient and effective method of research (self-harm), he lifted his 'hand' up to pinch himself in the name of science.
[A.n.: After extensive research (looking it up on the internet), I concluded that we can actually feel pain in our dreams, but for the convenience of this novel, this fact is omitted here.]
But before Aiden could initiate the self-pinching, he noticed something that made him stop and look down at his hands in disbelief.
They changed into something completely different from before. The once somewhat chunky, white hand with a pinkish hue turned green, slimy, and smooth. He only had four unusually long fingers instead of five, arranged in a strange shape with a thin membrane stretched between them.
"Kwark kwark!"
"It's like a frog's hands..." - Aiden wanted to say something like that, but instead of a human language, a strange croaking sound came out of his mouth. Proving that his assumption was probably right and he is probably in bigger shit than he thought.
'I don't even want to know anymore if I am dreaming or not.'
Deciding that it's better to leave at least one thread of hope to cling into, he chooses to distract himself with something else instead of losing himself in an existential crisis.
Now that most of the biggest questions were 'solved," or at least thrown in the back of his mind to dust for a while, Aiden could finally concentrate on something that had been really bugging him for a while. The thing that was maybe more unusual than the fact that he is a frog now.
'What the f*ck is this?'
Aiden wondered, looking with his big, bulging eyes at the blue, translucent square floating in front of him.
