Chereads / Hero Up! / Chapter 2 - A new guy in the area

Chapter 2 - A new guy in the area

(A/N): English is not my language, so if you find a grammatical error let me know; 🇧🇷

Sugar, spice and everything nice.

These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect girl.

But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the mix...

Chemical X!

Thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born!

Using their super powers, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil!

Sounds familiar, right?

Of course.

This is the story of how the Powerpuff Girls came to be. The Heroines of Townsville, USA. They were just little girls back then.

Monsters, demons, even basic bank robbers would face your fury if they dare to attack your home.

They were loved and respected by all. The heroines who would always save the day.

Even now, as high school students, they serve to protect and save.

Blossom: Buttercup, get behind him and attack him on the left!

Blossom, commander and leader.

Bubbles: I'll take it from the right!

Bubbles, she is joy and laughter.

Buttercup: Let's knock this thing down!

Buttercup, she's the toughest of the three.

Following Blossom's orders, the green breath flew after the giant monster that was trying to invade the city. Although the Professor managed to create a highly powerful shield around Townsville, the Monsters still had tricks to try and get in.

This time it was some crab monster. He probably introduced himself earlier, but it came out as a roar or a snarl. Bubbles could probably translate, but she was a little preoccupied at the moment.

Blossom: All right, girls. Attack!

Buttercup and Bubbles moved to attack the monster from the sides while Blossom took a deep breath. In a quick moment, Blossom blew a gust of icy wind that blinded the monster.

Buttercup slammed right into the monster's leg, cracking the shell, while Bubbles punched it in his big claw. Blossom let out her last breath and flew straight towards the monster.

With a strong punch, the battle was over.

The monster fell to the ground, defeated, and the girls hovered over it in victory. Civilians who remained in the area began to root for their heroines.

But the girls....

Bubbles: I hope we didn't hurt too much.

Buttercup: I wanted to throw the last punch!

Blossom: Oh. Is that crab goo in my hair?

Indeed, there were downsides to being a superhero. Especially for a teenager.

And as the girls "delighted" in their victory, they forgot what day it was.

Blossom's eyes suddenly widened in shock, which caused her sister to look at her.

Buttercup: What?

Blossom: I think I just heard the first bell.

The three remained in the air for a second before they all suddenly took to the air.

They had school to go to.

Earlier that day elsewhere...

Bastion was seen in his room lying in bed while sleeping with his shirt off. Elizabeth entered the room to wake him up.

Elizabeth was Bastion's older sister, she was about 23 years old, she is a young woman of average height with turquoise eyes. She has dark blue almost black hair, which is mostly shoulder length, in addition to the ear-length side bangs that she sports and the small tuft that she leaves hanging over her forehead.

She wears a white shirt with a simple peach gray cardigan, the sleeves rolled up to just below her elbows, along with navy blue jeans. She also wears brown shoes and a pair of rectangular red-framed glasses.

When she saw him sleeping and she soon had an idea. She took out her cell phone before snapping a picture of Bastion as he slept.

Elizabeth: He's like a sleeping angel.

She just didn't expect him to open his eyes upon hearing her voice before looking at her and speaking sleepily.

Bastion: Don't even think about posting that picture.

Elizabeth knew how much Bastion hated taking pictures since his appearance always caught the attention of several girls. She then smiled before speaking.

Elizabeth: Too late little brother!

She ran out of the room as Bastion jumped out of bed and ran after her trying to grab her cell phone.

Bastion: Give it to me Elizabeth! Delete this photo now!

Elizabeth: It's just a picture you silly!

Bastion: Just a picture nothing!

The two brothers ran through the house as Bastion chased her trying to escape the camera's view while Elizabeth tried to take another picture of him.

Elizabeth: Come on bro! Your fans want a picture of you, you uncultured runt!

Bastion: Well, let them want it! Last time you posted a picture of me, I became the center of attention at my old school!

Elizabeth managed to escape him before posting the photo as Bastion fell to his knees with an expression of defeat while screaming dramatically.

Bastion: Noooo! WHHHYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!

Elizabeth looked at him while shaking her head.

Elizabeth: It doesn't have to be so dramatic. It's not so bad.

Bastion: It's not so bad?!

Elizabeth: It will make it easier for you to fit in.

Bastion: You still pay me Elizabeth. I will have my revenge! Wait for me!

Elizabeth laughed at that before Bastion pouted and puffed out his cheeks with a sulky face.

Elizabeth: Well, now that you're up, go get ready for school.

Bastion picks himself up off the floor before walking dejectedly into the bathroom to get ready.

A while later, Bastion was now seen in his normal clothes as he looked at himself in the mirror.

Bastion: I think I'm ready.

After that the boy finally turns to the camera giving us a look at his appearance.

Bastion was a teenager in his 15 years old, he had slightly pale white skin, a rather strong body for his age, his hair was two shades of blue with a Carolina fringe, his eyes were a bright gray with his left eye having a tinge to it. lighter than the right gray, one thing that caught the attention of the boy besides the different color of his hair were the blue spots in the shape of a fin that he had on his cheeks, having two on each.

As for his outfit, Bastion is seen wearing baggy cerulean pants with large pockets, with a tight black tank top, with red tips and yellow buttons. His shoes are black with red stripes and resemble skater shoes. He's wearing his signature long white scarf and red arm guards.

Bastion: Let's get some coffee.

Bastion descends the stairs before heading to the kitchen to see his sister finished putting the coffee on.

Elizabeth: Good morning grumpy.

Bastion: Good morning boring.

Elizabeth: Still mad about the photo?

Bastion: *sarcastic* No, imagine. What gave you that impression?

Elizabeth: Cheer up, your photo has already had several likes and many people have started to follow you.

Bastion: That's great, but it's not like I care. Grandpa said not to draw attention to me, and that's what I'm going to do. So no more pictures Liz!

The girl pouted at that.

Elizabeth: You are no fun bro.

Bastion sighed in response as the two sipped coffee together. After that the boy took his backpack before getting ready to go to school.

Bastion: I went.

Elizabeth: Don't you want me to take you?

Bastion: No need, I know where the school is, I'll manage. See you later.

Elizabeth: Okay, have fun.

Bastion: You too.

Bastion left the house on his skateboard as he walked towards the school. As he ran through the streets he could feel the wind hit his face as his long scarf flew in the breeze. Bastion enjoyed the feel of the wind on his face before he reached the front of the school.

He then picks up his skateboard before looking at the school and sighing.

Bastion: Come on new school, show me what you got.

He headed towards the main entrance and as he did so a few students glanced at him. Bastion walked down the halls as the girls looked at him with interest and the boys looked at him with anger and envy.

Random Girl 1: Hey girls, isn't that boy the cutie in the pictures?

Random Girl 2: He IS and very handsome by the way

Random Girl 3: Is he single?

Bastion listened to this before trying to ignore the comments made about him and continuing on his way through the halls as many female students looked at him with hearts and sparkles in their eyes while a few boys looked at him jealously.

Bastion: (Thoughts) *sarcastic* Fit in, huh Liz? Thanks for the help!

A while later Bastion then scanned the lockers as he looked for his.

Bastion: (Thoughts) 203. 204. 205. 208?

He raised an eyebrow at that.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Hey, where's 206 and 207?

He looked around in confusion before taking another look at his class schedule. He had to get to 206.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Why is this school so big?!

He scratched the back of his neck, lowered his arm, and let out a frustrated groan. Bastion had been walking this hall for almost an hour trying to find his first class. He already imagined that transferring schools would have its difficulties, but this was ridiculous.

He just shook his head before the second bell rang. Everyone who was left in the hallways was now running to get to class. Bastion quickly realized he was going to be late for class. He grabbed his head and quickly looked for someone to help him.

Bastion: Excuse me.

Ignored.

Bastion: Hey, can you...

Ignored.

Bastion: For God's sake...

Ignored.

Bastion: Can you help me...

He soon found himself alone in the middle of the empty hallway. So much for "a friendly environment".

He looked around to see if there was anyone to help him. Unfortunately, there wasn't. At least, that's what he thought.

Buttercup: Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap!

Bastion turned when he heard the sounds of running footsteps and a worried voice. It looked like a girl.

When he finally turned around completely, he found that the air had gone out of his lungs. Bastion was quickly on the ground with a strange weight on top of him.

Bastion: Oh...

He slowly gathered his surroundings again once his head stopped rattling.

Buttercup shook his head as he realized he had run into what looked like a brick wall before he landed on top of something. Bastion slowly lifted his head and looked at the girl who was now getting to her feet.

She is a young woman of about 15 or 16 with fair skin and green eyes. Her hair is spiky black and worn with a hat. She wears a light green shirt with white details, and her pants are dark green with a belt hugging around her waist, her shoes are high-top physical education sneakers. Her belt is white with lots of gold buckles, and it sits sideways at her waist, unlike the normal way to wear a belt, which sits at her waist.

She shook her head before looking down at the boy on the ground.

Buttercup: Oh. Damn, man. How are you?

She held her hand out to him. Bastion watched her for a second before accepting the help. Buttercup felt the strong grip of the boy's hand before effortlessly pulling him up. Bastion regained his footing before dusting himself off.

Bastion: Yeah, I'm fine. You just caught me off guard.

The girl smiled proudly at that.

Buttercup: Haha I know, I do really well.

She then looked the boy from head to toe. What really caught her attention, however, was the fact that the boy's hair was blue, the marks on his cheeks, and his eyes were two different shades.

Buttercup realized then that he had never seen that boy before asking.

Buttercup: Wait, I've never seen you around here. You're a newbie?

Bastion just nodded in response.

Bastion: That's right. I arrived in town yesterday. To tell you the truth, I'm looking for my room, can you help me?

Buttercup: What class?

Bastion showed her the time and she glanced at the room number before sighing with a nervous smile.

Buttercup: 206 right? English class, you're in the wrong hallway man.

Bastion looked at her confused.

Bastion: Wrong hallway? Where are you then?

Buttercup signaled for him to follow. With no other option, Bastion just went along with her since the girl didn't seem like a bad person, not to mention he needed the help.

After walking a bit, the two finally reached a new corridor. Looking around, Bastion soon realized that this was the English hallway.

Bastion: Why did they do it like that?

Buttercup: It's a pretty dumb thing to do, but you get used to it.

Bastion just shrugged when Buttercup then opened the door to find the professor glaring at her.

Teacher: You're late again Mrs. Utonium.

Buttercup swallowed hard before speaking.

Buttercup: W-Well, you know what a professor-

Bastion then decided to intervene.

Bastion: Don't be mad at her teacher, I was lost and she helped me find my class.

Buttercup looked at the boy grateful that he defended her before the professor spoke.

Teacher: Oh I see, I was waiting for you boy.

Bastion: Was it?

Teacher: Certainly. Buttercup, come in and take her seat.

The brunette didn't say anything else before entering the room, but not before muttering a thank you to Bastion who just nodded in response.

The teacher turned his gaze to the boy before speaking.

Teacher: Well son, I welcome you to our school and I hope you do very well here.

Bastion just nodded with a smile.

Teacher: Well wait here until I say you can come in, will you?

The teacher then entered the room while the students were talking to each other. He clears his throat to get the class' attention before speaking.

Teacher: Good morning young people, from now on we will have the pleasure of receiving a new student and I will introduce him. Come on in.

Bastion then let out a tired sigh as he felt the jitters start, he then walked into the room as everyone's eyes were riveted on him. He then took a deep breath before speaking as everyone watched him.

Bastion: H-Hi, good morning everyone. My name... My name is Bastion Mutaito, nice to meet you.

Murmurs were heard in the classroom, with some students recognizing him as the boy in the photo while the girls made comments about Bastion's handsome appearance while the boys grumbled about it.

Random Girl 1: Wow what a handsome boy, he's my type.

Random Boy 1: Great, one more to steal the girls' attention.

Random Boy 2: And it's called Bastion Mutaito, what a weird name *laughs*.

Bastion walked over to stand beside the professor while Buttercup watched him with a puzzled look.

Buttercup: (Thoughts) Come to think of it, I think I've seen him somewhere...

Random Girl 2: It's really cute.

Random Boy 3: Humph, he's really shy like all losers *laughs*.

Teacher: Young Bastion passed his math, science, chemistry, history, spelling, and even foreign language exams with top marks. He is a very diligent student.

Several "Ohhh" of admiration were heard in the class as well as several whistles, and comments about the boy. The teacher then raised his voice a little to get the attention of the class.

Teacher: Silence! I hope they learn from him and change radically!

The Professor then looks at Bastion before nodding at him.

Teacher: Come on Bastion, sit him down at one of the empty desks.

Bastion: All right.

Teacher: his seat will be over there next to Mr. Mitchelson. Mitch, please raise your hand.

Bastion watched as one of the other boys raised his hand. He was a brown haired boy who wore a varsity jacket. He looked like someone who was as smart as he was a tough guy.

Bastion just walked from the front of the room to his new seat while trying to ignore the stares from the class. When he finally got to the bottom, he noticed that Buttercup was sitting on the other side of Mitch.

She gave him a single, quick look before turning her attention back out the window.

As soon as Bastion sat down, the Professor told everyone to grab their books and turn to a page, which worried Bastion as he didn't have the books yet.

Teacher: Mitch, could you...

Mitch: Yeah, yeah.

Mitch opened the book and pushed it to the edge of the table. He even moved a little closer so Bastion could see. And with that, Bastion's life at Pokey Oaks Highschool began.

The blue haired boy found himself holding the plastic lunch tray as he looked at the mass of students enjoying their food. All friends, all familiar with each other, all complete strangers to him.

Bastion sighed at the sight already missing home. Of course it was nice to see people getting along, there didn't seem to be any problem with bullying here at least that's what Bastion thought, but he was a complete stranger here.

He looked around to see if there was an empty seat for him. Unfortunately, there wasn't.

Bastion saw Buttercup sitting with Mitch at a table, but they were with a bunch of other people. They all wore varsity jackets too.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Must be the Football team? Maybe basketball. I don't care much.

Bastion liked sports, but he always had trouble getting along with athletes, not to mention he had a lot of "advantages" over others when it came to physical activities. He sighed wondering if there was a patio with a tree for him to lean against in this school.

Buttercup felt like someone was watching her. She knew that feeling well with her hero status. She looked around, but the only thing she could see was the white scarf along with Bastion's foot coming out of the doors.

She kept her eyes on the entrance for a while, but soon returned to her conversation.

Bastion was seen eating an apple while sitting in the shade of a tree enjoying the quiet and relaxing.

Moving to another city was difficult, starting a new school was difficult, leaving your grandfather was difficult. It was stressful to say the least. He finished eating the apple before throwing it into a wastebasket in the distance and hitting it squarely.

Bastion: Three point *laughs*.

He let out a relaxed sigh before closing his eyes as he enjoyed the moment of peace.

However, he heard something.

Bastion opened his eyes before looking around to see a group of boys approaching. Bastion could tell by the way they acted that they were the feared and hated bullies, every student's nightmare.

Bastion noticed them coming towards him before he got up and walked away, but the boys surrounded him. Bastion just sighed tiredly at that before asking.

Bastion: Can I help?

The first of them then spoke.

???: I think you're the one who will need help newbie.

Bastion watched this bully closely.

He was blond with brown eyes, a strong and robust looking body and wore the varsity team uniform that gave him a macho vibe.

Bastion: Do I know you man?

Sten: No, but it should. I'm Sten, best player on the team and I run the school.

Bastion: Okay, what's up?

Sten: What's up?

Bastion: What's Up I have to do with this?

Sten snorted at that before speaking.

Sten: Listen here, Bastion Mutaito, huh?

Bastion: That's right.

Sten: Well, Bastion Mutaito, but I think bitch Mutaito suits you better.

Sten and his friends laughed at this while Bastion just sighed tired of it.

Bastion: Man I have more to do.

Sten then looks at him with a cocky smile.

Sten: Easy there little nerd with delusions of grandeur, I'm not done yet.

Sten then approaches Bastion before looking down on him as he was the taller of the two.

Sten: Listen nerd, I'll be merciful since you're new, but be warned. Stay in your place if you know what's good for you.

With that Sten then walks past Bastion, but not before tapping him on the shoulder and flicking him in the ear while his friends laugh. Bastion felt his fists clench as the bullies walked away. He was glad he hadn't started a fight, but he knew that wouldn't be the end of it and that Sten would pick on him again later.

Bastion just sighed before reentering the school.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Just another normal day at school.

He started to wonder a little bit what he should do about bullies, he knew his sister and grandfather wouldn't like him fighting at school, but he wasn't willing to be a punching bag for anyone, after all he was a bully. Mutaito and the Mutaito family didn't lower their heads to injustices.

He would have continued his way through the corridors, but his ears picked up a sound. He stopped walking before he zeroed in on anyone and looked around before he realized what it was all about.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Is anyone... singing?

The boy looked into the hall and realized that the sound was coming from the music room. Having nothing better to do and desperate to make friends, Bastion decided to find a source for the voice.

He walked for a while before finding himself in front of the choir room. He peeked through the small window and saw a girl singing to herself.

She is a young woman of about 15 or 16 with fair skin and blue eyes. Her hair is blonde with beautifully styled bangs framing her face and two very fine curls sticking out at the bottom of them, above her ears. She wears her hair in braids that are very curly and reach down to her ears. She wears a white long-sleeved white shirt with a blue tie, blue checkered skirt, and her shoes are a black Mary Jane with two socks underneath the shoes.

Bastion reached for the handle before opening the door and quietly stepping in, he quickly found himself standing in the room as the girl continued to sing, unaware that he was watching her.

Bastion thought she had a beautiful voice. Unlike anything he's ever heard before in his life.

Bastion: (Thoughts) That's right. She could very well be a star. *laughter*

The music soon came to an end and the room fell silent. Bastion then decided to make his presence known as he clapped his hands together before joining in and applauding the girl.

Bastion: Well done.

The girl jumped at the sound of her voice. She finally saw him and quickly placed her hand on his chest to calm herself from the fright. Bastion cringed awkwardly when he saw that he had startled her before he spoke.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Well done Bastion. (Out of Thoughts) Uh... f-sorry, just don't start screaming, okay? I didn't mean to scare you... I just heard a voice in the hallway and thought I'd come see what it was, then I saw you singing... and, uh, I'm sorry... sorry.

The girl finally calmed down and gave another feeling to the boy.

She didn't eat him and she ate everyone at school. So who was that in front of her?

Bubbles: Are you new?

Bastion nodded, wondering how to fix this.

Bastion: That's right. Um, I'm Bastion, Bastion Mutaito. I just moved and don't know anyone.

Bubbles: Oh. Nice to meet you, Bastion. I'm Bubbles.

Bastion nodded, but stopped when I thought of the girl's unusual name, then shrugged it off.

Bastion: Right. Bubbles, I just wanted to say... you have a really nice voice. It was "My Superstar", right? Jessie J?

Bubbles suddenly lit up with a bright smile as her eyes twinkled cutely.

Bubbles: Yeah! Are you a fan?

Bastion did nod that more or less. It wasn't one of his favorite singers. But he still liked it. He then remembers that his sister adored him.

Bastion: I'm more of a fan of the band "Orange". "Revolution" is my favorite. This kind of thing.

Bubbles: So you like rock music?

Bastion agreed with a smile. He loved rock music and that was undeniable. But Elizabeth loved all kinds of music, so he always listened to different rhythms, but for him Revolution was something irreplaceable, even when he lived with his grandfather who also loved music. It made Bastion feel closer to his dear grandfather.

Bubbles: Have you seen "Hamilton"?

Bastion: Why was this supposed to be a musical?

Bubbles: Because it's good.

Bastion: It's a bit boring.

Bubbles gasped at the statement. Almost as if the boy had just insulted her mother.

Bubbles: It's not!

He just shrugged.

Bastion: Kind of is.

Bubbles crossed her arms as she narrowed her eyes at Bastion.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Good again Bastion! And there you go ending up with a new friendship.

But he was surprised to see Bubbles smile at him.

Bubbles: You must know well to talk like that. Not bad.

Bastion was a little confused, she looked a little proud of him, but he shrugged.

Bastion: So why are you here alone? Don't you have friends?

Bubbles nodded quickly.

Bubbles: Of course I have silly. But they all have a different lunch period. And my sisters are with their friends, so I thought I'd come over here and rehearse a little bit.

Bastion: Rehearse? For what?

Bubbles: For the auditions. Oh wait, you don't know that yet.

Bubbles looked around the room for a moment before finding what he was looking for. She picked up a pamphlet that was on a table before handing it to him.

Bubbles: There's an audition for an upcoming play. It's called "Romeo and Juliet". It's not a musical, but I think singing a song might help.

Bastion: I don't know about you, but this sappy little story is awful.

The blonde sighed in shock at this.

Bubbles: How can you say that?!

Bastion: But it's true.

Bubbles: How can you say that such a beautiful love story can be horrible?!

Bastion: Not that part, it was beautiful to see their impossible love. Their families hated each other so much that they could barely explain what they felt, so Romeo couldn't be with Juliet. They do everything to be together, but their parents' hatred doesn't let that love come true. I enjoyed seeing the passion that was between the two and the sadness that they both couldn't live their romance was heartbreaking. That ending where the two die was exciting I admit, but it could have been much better.

Bubbles looked at him in disbelief and Bastion looked awkward.

Bastion: I know, I'm a fool for not liking the ending.

Bubbles: No! I agree with you, that tragic ending made me cry for days.

Bastion smirked at that before reading the flyer for a moment before looking back at her.

Bastion: So, are you in the drama club?

Bubbles: I am. But we are also short on boys at the moment.

Suddenly she had an idea.

Bubbles: Hey, if you're trying to make friends, why don't you join?!

Bastion blinked and looked up, but flinched when he saw that she was suddenly very close to his face. He got a drop on his head as he took a step back as Bubbles looked into her eyes. She soon realized that she had never seen eyes like Bastion's before.

Bastion: Me? I... uh... ah dunno. I'm not a drama club kind of guy.

Bubbles: We could also use more theater technicians. We kind of need the help. Also, we're really desperate to get more kids to join. There are many male roles in this play.

Bastion: I don't know.

Bubbles: Come on, you seem to understand a lot about this. You'll blend in quickly.

Bastion thought about her last statement, he would be blending in, not drawing attention and that was good, it was really good.

Bastion: Well... it doesn't hurt to try, right?

Bubbles' smile only got bigger at that.

Bubbles: Really?

He just nodded in response.

Later...

Bastion tapped his foot impatiently as he glanced at the clock.

School was almost over. His first day was almost over and he made it through unscathed.

The boy turned his attention to the teacher who was complaining about something about biology. Bastion had no idea what she was talking about, because he was a new student who had suddenly switched schools in the middle of a semester.

For his sister's sake, Bastion had to make sure he didn't cause any trouble here. He just had to keep his head down, blend in, stay out of sight of bullies, and be a normal student.

BRAAMMM!

Bastion snapped back to reality as he felt the ground begin to shake. He raised an eyebrow at that before looking out the window.

His eyes widened when he saw that a huge monster was crawling out of the ocean. It was covered in thorns and had a massive tail or a large ball like weapon attached to it similar to a flail.

Teacher: All right, students! Please start going to the emergency room! Keep calm!

All the students got up and started running out of the room. Bastion stood there confused before looking out the window again.

He wondered if this was normal and how often it happened.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Is that what Liz was talking about when she said not to play hero?

Bastion got up and grabbed his bag, but stopped. He found himself staring down at the monster as he tried to break through the energy shield around the city. Bastion shook his head as he clenched his fists and ran out of the room.

Instead of following everyone down the hall, he went into the bathroom and locked the door.

Bastion then opened his backpack before grabbing a mask and smiling.

Over the skies over Townsville, three colored beams of light followed the town's heroes.

Buttercup: I'm tired of these monsters. Didn't we just fight one?

Bubbles: Yes. I was in the middle of English class.

Blossom: I know. I was studying. But enough talk.

All the girls reached the edge of the city where the monster was hitting the shield. He roared and flicked his tail.

Blossom: Any ideas girls?

Buttercup: Let's go right in his face!

Bubbles: Why do you always choose violence? We can try to talk to him.

Blossom: I don't know. Doesn't look like he wants to talk, Bubbles.

The monster swung its flail tail and hit the shield once more.

Buttercup: So let's finish him off. Let's show who's boss here.

Bubbles: No! We don't need to kill!

Blossom: But we can't just send him away either. He will fight us no matter what we do.

As the three of them went back and forth about what to do, the monster hit the shield. He then opened his mouth and let out a much louder roar.

All the girls looked at him in shock as the shield started to crack. All of them immediately raised their defenses, but they had nothing to worry about.

A sudden gust of wind rushed through the city streets leaving a cloud of dust behind as it passed the girls and broke through the barrier before running around the monster creating a funnel of wind that lifted it off the ground, the one responsible for it then walked away. before running towards the monster before taking a leap. The monster didn't have time to react before receiving a powerful punch in the chest.

The beast had no time to react as he felt the blow lift him off the ground as he flew through the air to somewhere else, leaving little damage in his wake.

The girls all stared into the empty space with wide eyes. They then looked at the single figure hovering in the air.

Bastion: Yeah Yeahhh hahaha. I did well! That's right!. Also, DETROYT SMAAAAAASSSHHHHHH!!!

He then itched to never.

Bastion: I have to remember to shout the name of the move when I hit the guy.

Bastion hovered in the air like the girls did before landing on the ground.

He now wore an outfit to disguise himself, he wore a white mask over his face that covered his mouth and nose, his hair was styled differently, he wore a white protective vest with round shoulder pads, underneath the vest was a red shirt. with long dark blue sleeves, he had white armbands and knee pads, his pants were dark blue, and finally he wore white shoes.

The girls stared at him in confusion before the leader asked.

Blossom: What...but who are you?!

Bastion looked at the three girls. His eyes widened when he saw that two of them were the girls he'd known at school. Reality dawned on Bastion as he remembered his sister telling him about the city's protectresses when he felt kind of stupid for not realizing it sooner.

He thought about introducing himself to them, but then he remembered that his grandfather had told him never to tell others about his powers, no one should know what he was or what he was capable of and so he did.

The boy didn't say anything but gave a quick salute before flying off in the blink of an eye and disappearing into the clouds, but unlike the girls, Bastion didn't leave any streaks of color behind him.

The girls watched as Bastion flew away before disappearing from their line of sight. They were stunned by it.

Blossom: Did he... did he just leave?! How rude!

Bubbles: I hope he's okay. Did he hurt his hand?

Buttercup: He did it with one punch? He must be VERY strong!

Despite their different impressions, they all had the same question.

Who was the masked one?

Later...

Bastion: I'm home.

Elizabeth: Welcome back. You took your time.

Bastion walked in and closed the door behind him before tossing his bag into a corner.

Bastion: Just because you're my legal guardian now doesn't mean you should set a time for me to get home.

Elizabeth just laughed.

Elizabeth: Well, what's wrong mister moody, what bug bit you?

Bastion: None, I just had a rough day.

Elizabeth: Made some new friends.

Bastion: I think I did.

Bastion walked into the living room of his sister's apartment where he found her. She was sitting on the couch watching the news about the monster attack earlier today.

People thought it was the Powerpuff Girls and Bastion was glad no one had seen him. His eyes then landed on the headline.

The day is saved once again thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!

Bastion: The Powerpuff Girls? Those protectors of the city you mentioned?

Elizabeth: They really bro. Why are you suddenly interested? You didn't seem to mind when I was talking about them.

Bastion remembered her mentioning something about heroes, only by not paying close attention he thought she was telling him not to be one.

The shield still stood tall and steady and the monsters were still being kept out. For now, at least.

Bastion knew this because his sister and grandfather were the ones who helped design and design the shield.

They worked closely with an old acquaintance in the city to help stop the attacks. Bastion didn't understand how the shield worked and he didn't care, all he knew was that it kept the monsters out of the city and that was enough for him.

Bastion: All right. But hey, you, Grandpa and Professor Utonium need to take a look at your bubble.

Elizabeth: We already are. In fact, we're going to discuss the situation at his house this Friday.

Bastion gave her a leer, but she quickly threw a pillow at him.

Elizabeth: No you silly! That's not what I meant. Also, he's too old for my taste.

Bastion: Newton said that time is relative.

Elizabeth: Bastion for you little brat *laughs*. And you go with me too.

Bastion caught the pillow before it hit the floor, but groaned at his sister's words. He might be smart, but he didn't want to go to the Professor's house just so he and his sister could talk about science all the time.

Bastion: Do I really need it?

Elizabeth: Of course. Remember, you loved it when the teacher came to visit. And this is a punishment for his small feat.

Bastion looked at her confused. She paused the TV at the exact moment the monster was seen being hit. After that, the video was cut. But that frame where she stopped showed that something very obviously hit him.

Elizabeth: You played the hero, didn't you?

Bastion froze where he was as sweat trickled down his forehead and he grew nervous.

Bastion: N-No? Ah!

Elizabeth then got up and tugged her brother's ear hard.

Elizabeth: Your ears turn red when you lie!

Bastion: My ears are red for what the hell! Now let go of me, let go, it hurts!

Elizabeth tugged on his ear again, which made him scream some more.

Elizabeth: I want the truth Bastion Mutaito!

Bastion: All right, all right! And truth! It was me! I punched the monster! Now let go of me for Newton's sake!

Elizabeth finally released him as he walked away with dramatic tears on his face. Bastion cupped her ear as he groaned as he felt it burn and throb with pain. Elizabeth placed her hands on her hips as she looked at her brother with a serious gaze.

She was taller than Bastion and that only made her scarier when she got mad.

Elizabeth: You had a task young man. Blend in.

Bastion: I'm trying! I'm really trying. Nobody even saw me.

Elizabeth: Nobody? Because it looks like you had three witnesses.

The two looked back at the TV. The Powerpuffs weren't even close to the monster, but it was clear that they were looking at something, someone to be exact.

Bastion: But... they haven't even seen my face.

Elizabeth: Did you talk to them?

Bastion: I told you at school. But I didn't know they were the heroines. I thought they would have disguises or something.

Elizabeth: They used to. But it does not matter. They can't know that the person who attacked that monster was you.

Bastion waved back.

Bastion: They won't. I mustn't tell anyone about my powers, you and grandpa remind me of that every day.

Elizabeth tapped her foot before giving him a nod. She then clapped her hands and walked towards the kitchen.

Elizabeth: Now that we've got that out of the way, why don't I start dinner? It's my turn, right?

Bastion: No. It's mine. You made dinner last night.

Elizabeth: No, I went out last night. You need real food. Go wash up and relax.

Bastion decided it wasn't worth arguing, so he went to her room and opened the door.

It was empty except for his bed. His clothes were still packed inside a big cardboard box, but that was it.

Bastion didn't have much to decorate his room with, he believed he didn't need much.

Walking to her bed he kicked off her shoes and placed them beside her bed.

Elizabeth bought furniture for Bastion, but it wouldn't be delivered until the end of next week, but it wasn't like the kid cared about that. He was happy to have a new room.

Bastion let out a sigh as he sat down on the mattress. He looked around his room for a moment before looking out the only window.

The city looked interesting. He found himself smiling as he realized this was all a new beginning for him. Maybe he could make the most of this place.

Perhaps he would join the drama club. Maybe Bastion could befriend Mitch and that other girl with powers. Maybe he can even find a girlfriend. And maybe give Sten and the other bullies a well-deserved steak.

Maybe he could do some good here. That would make his grandfather and sister proud of him.

Whatever this town has in store for Bastion, he'd be ready to kill it in the chest.
