The scent of blood and sweat hung heavily in the air, a metallic tang that coated the back of my throat. I turned back to my human form as I approached the battlefield. The ground was littered with the broken and battered bodies of wolves, their fur matted with gore and dirt, eyes glazed over in death. I could hear the cries and howls of those still alive, their voices pained and desperate.
My heart pounded in my chest as I made my way towards the enemy Alpha. The Alpha had a feminine voice but was wearing a mask, so I could not tell if the Alpha was male or female, but I concluded she was female because of her voice. The Alpha's eyes narrowed in anger and defiance. Her fur was stained red, clumps of it missing where she had been wounded in battle. She snarled at me, baring her teeth, but I didn't flinch. Instead, I met her gaze, my own eyes burning with fierce determination.
