Chapter 3 - FLASHBACK I

The setting seemed awkwardly familiar to him.

"Is this what the after life looks like?", Myles wondered to himself as he looked around taking a long observatory stare at the landscape.

Meanwhile, A block down the street, A little boy and a lady came out to the porch from a brown painted duplex house.

The lady was conversing over the phone with her friend while trying to pick out the key to the front door from her bunch.

They were seemingly preparing to leave the house for a trip over to a friend's place.

"I... I remember this." Myles said as he walked down towards the building where the lady and the child were at. It was an event that happened in his childhood, Myles recalled.

The woman who was on the phone was his mother "Caitlin" and the boy was a seven year old counterpart of him.

"Mum!"

"Mum!! Hey Mum! It's me... Myles", Myles called out.

He tried to run closer but it seemed he wasn't covering any ground at all as he moved. The perspective was fixed and all he could do was watch the events of that day play out.

Down at the porch, As caitlin was occupied with her call and the selection of her keys at the moment, Younger myles wandered off playfully down sidewalk and attempted crossing the road alone without the supervision of his mother.

He had ran up the sidewalk and continued straight down trying to get to the other side without properly observing the traffic on the road. Just as he had ran halfway through, He heard a loud honk coming from down the street.

Speeding down the road and closing up on him was a white truck with a fat delivery guy behind the wheel. The delivery guy was caught up in thrill of consuming a pack of cheese burgers and fries he bought earlier on for lunch as he drove down the road. Munching on his lunch, The truck driver lost sight of the road up ahead.

The sight of the truck speeding down the road to his position startled the kid causing him to go into shock and freeze where he stood. Just then, The driver looked ahead through the windshield to focus on the road, He quickly came into realization of the child standing in the way.

Instantly, He dropped the burger in his hand, mounting both his hand on the steering wheel, turned it clockwise while hitting the brakes simultaneously. This caused the van to screech along the asphalt turning sideway and abruptly coming to a stop, hitting the kid Myles mildly and taking him off his feet.

Seven years old Myles resultantly fell to the ground and lay unconscious from the shock. The entire event played out just as it had that day with grown-up Myles watching from a third person perspective.

Just as Caitlin realized what had happened, Her phone and keys fell to the floor of the porch as she screamed out on fright."Myles!!", She shouted out as she hastily ran down the road to where her son laid. Crossing her hand over his back she took him up and placed him on her lap.

Shakily panting she called out "Myles!

Myles! Are you ok? Talk to me... Myles!", As a drop of tear left her eyes, rolled down her cheeks and fell to the kid's face.

He opened his eyes slowly and looking up straight at Caitlin, He called out "Mum...".

In relief, Caitlin sighed and pulled him closer to her chest, Giving him a tight long hug as she sobbed lightly.

Meanwhile a distance down the street, Present day Myles, struggled to break free and get closer to his mother. He gradually got pulled away from the view of the event further and further away till it blurred away and collapsed into itself. Myles was now left floating in a dark void with no object or source of light in sight.

Suddenly, there was a burst of light up ahead. It was another flashback. Myles was now pulled into the view of another one of his memories.

The sun sat high up in the sky with thick sheets of white clouds spread above.

Myles now found himself standing at the entrance of his former highschool building which had been wrecked and abandoned a while back due to some catastrophic activities that happened in the premises earlier on(Apocalypse).

He proceeded into the school building, Climbing up the few flight of stairs outside and pushing the large wooden door open. A large smile stroked along his face as the view of the inner area of the building came into his sight. Although there was nobody in sight of the building, The inside was still well preserved as it has been abandoned over a long time.

He stood for a while at the door side taking in the view he had long missed. After a little while, Myles then proceeded to walking down the hallway over to one of his former classrooms. "I have a feeling this is not going to be one of my best days at school" Myles said jokingly to himself while smiling as he approached the empty room.

At the entrance, He placed his left hand on its door, sliding it down all the way to the knob trying to feel it's cold smooth texture once again.

"Leave me alone!!" A voice screamed in the distance beyond the walls of the building. Myles immediately left the locker area and continued down through the hallway heading for the back exit door up ahead.

Down at the back, A lean looking girl in a pair of black jeans and a green long sleeved top was being attacked and tossed around by two hooded thugs. The thugs had bandages tied around their fists like those of kick-boxers with physiques like those of pro-wrestling athletes. They hit her repeatedly and threw her across the hard floor without remorse of any kind.

Just as Myles rushed down the hallway and pushed the doors open, He paused instantly in an abrupt manner.

"Lyla" He muttered with his mouth as his eyes filled with tears.

It was an old friend of his named 'Lyla'.
