Chapter 33 - The Society of the Crazy Goblins (2)

After walking for a single minute, Kane finally found something. It wasn't a monster or animal… it was actually a fence made of logs. That was quite surprising, and as if that wasn't enough… he also found some houses on the other side of the fence. After observing the place for a while, Kane also found some goblins there and the unexpected sound of moans…

"What the… It looks like there are a lot of people in those houses, and they are quite busy considering that it is the middle of the day."

Eventually, Kane found a group of ten goblins in a particular area of the village… the entrance. He didn't know if putting all the people who could fight in a single place was a good idea. Still, Kane couldn't complain since they did a pretty good job building the village. Still, it was weird since he couldn't see the signs of the knocked-down trees anywhere.

"Well, now… what should I do?"

The chances of those goblins being humans were relatively high. Working with other humans would also help Kane quite a lot. As long as he obtains food, he will be able to get reincarnation points passively. The problem with that was the fact that a considerable number of goblins would attract too much attention. That same sense of security could easily crumble apart if the humans of that world create a force to burn down the village and kill all the goblins.

"Still… staying here for a while to obtain some information will be important. Although the moment people start to work together to solve their problems, other problems are bound to appear… but as long as I find one or two allies in this village, it will be worth the hassle and the danger."

Kane will have to start over as a slime if things go wrong very quickly. His chances of not appearing in the middle of the kids were quite dim, but he would have to accept the risks. Fighting for survival in an unknown world wasn't something simple, and he had to consider all possible outcomes, after all.

After making up his mind, Kane walked toward the entrance of that village. Thanks to that, he also noticed that the security of the place was bad. Kane observed the place for quite a while, but no one noticed. Still, things could improve if he gives to the people there the information he obtained. Depending on how they will react to it, Kane would understand if staying in that place was a good or bad choice.

The guards only noticed Kane's presence when he was ten meters away from them, and after, he left a single tree that was blocking their vision. That was bad, anyone with a decent skill with a bow could have killed two of them at that distance, and they wouldn't react in time to even save the third goblin… They weren't working cautiously enough, considering that they were in the middle of a massive forest that probably had several troublesome monsters.

"Halt!" One goblin shouted, pointing a bow toward Kane. "Identify yourself."

It was hard to differentiate the goblins from each other. The only thing that could tell them apart was the weapon they had and the voice, but since Kane only heard the voice of a single man, he would have to identify them by the weapons.

Now that Kane was close, he also saw four female goblins among the group of guards… they were probably female because they had short black hair. They had fewer muscles, but their chests were larger, just like their butts… meanwhile, all the other goblins didn't have much fat in those areas, and they were also bald. Still, despite all that, everyone looked quite ugly when considering human standards.

"My name is Kane… you guys are humans, right?" Kane hesitated a little bit.

Kane began to wonder if it was really wise to keep talking in the open like that, but for the time being, he had to obey the rules and commands of those who came to that place before him. Still, it looked like that guy was the leader because he was the only person who had a bow… Kane didn't want to believe that a single weapon made him the leader of the group. Still, considering that only two others armed with spears were behind him, and the others armed with knives were a little bit behind, it looked like that was the case.

"Yes, we were human once…" The guy with a bow analyzed Kane from head to toe. "Did you just become a goblin?"

"Yes, a few minutes ago, I appeared in this forest and then quickly found this village," Kane answered.

Although Kane wanted to give them some feedback as to how to secure the place with more ease and efficiency, telling them now that he had been watching them for half an hour seemed like a bad idea. Humans didn't like people very much who measured others based on their appearances that fast… even though the guy with a bow was doing that right now.

"My name is Carl, and it looks like you want to join us," Carl said while watching the surroundings for new visitors. "That is possible, but we have some rules, and you will have to obey them if you want to work with us."

"Can you explain the rules to me?" Kane asked.

"First of all, you have to hunt with other a group of ten or so people every single day," Carl explained. "However, your group must bring everything that you might find to this village. We will share the spoils with everyone. Although all of us can fight, not all of us are that skilled yet. Some only came this far, thanks to their great luck. Still, given that they are working hard but don't produce many results, we still can't just throw them away. Besides, there is strength in numbers."

"Well, I don't mind that," Kane said.

Kane managed to survive until now, but it would be hard to say if he would be that successful as a goblin. There was a chance that he would end up eating less and thus storing less energy. Still, there was a chance that he would gain more than he could hunt and thus obtain reincarnation points without deserving them. Although that seemed a bit troublesome, it was something that every single of them had to do, compromise for the sake of increasing the survival of many others.
