Chapter 12 - Ch 9: I am Getting Exhausted

"Ugh," I can't help but groan. "It seems that even though I can't sleep, I still can get mentally exhausted." I say to myself, thinking about the constant work me and Maz has done in such a short time.

I managed to teach him the basic alphabet and start a written languge, which we STILL have to introduce to everyone. I wrote a basic law, which I doubt will hold us together for long, but we can edit it wherever necessary. I somehow even was able to develop a government which seemed decently fair, with me, Maz, and a Pope at the top.

In the short time that we worked there, we also decided on an entire separate branch of government which acted as the peoples voice, a council. We decided to just call it Council of Time, just to get it over with.

I was even able to teach Maz how to read a sundial, which will likely be useful for the future.

At that point, it was extremely dark outside, with my system clock that I set when I first got here saying that it was 10:27PM.

Yet still, we worked.

We continued to develop a sort of 'structure' for the government. We obviously won't use it now, but in the future, we are going to need to have people managing taxes, we are going to need to have people manage immigrants and the people in the country, people to manage the economy, people to manage war related problems, so on and so on.

I for sure am not doing all of that!

"Um, excuse me?" A knocking sound came from the doorframe without a door along with a weary female voice. The knocking echoed until it left for the outdoors through the not so well built wooden ceiling. I turned my vision towards her. She looked… normal. For my time, I mean. She had wrinkles in her face and she had brown slightly graying hair, but other than that, she looked extremely healthy. Maybe too old for Ekaku's tastes? Her piercing green eyes contrasted with the look on her face, which said 'Don't worry'.

"Come in," I say simply, too tired to form a more delicate response. "What's your name?"

"I… I don't have one, New Lord."

"Call me Matthias. Your new name is Koshia." I say quickly, trying to end the development of the government as quickly as possible. "What do you need?"

"I… I have a name!" She looked stunned for a second, then her expression filled with joy.

"Did you come just for a name?" I joke slightly, trying to get her back on track.

"Oh! Right. Maz wanted to see you." Her voice softened as she said his name.

My metaphorical eyes widen slightly. "I think you are the first person I have heard call him by his name."

She smiled. "I've been taking care of him since his parent's died hunting a Fire Boar."

I sweat drop. 'A what now?' "Well, I apologize if I got into a sensitive topic."

"Oh, dear no! It's fine! Human's are naturally curious!"

I laugh a little at that. "I'm not human, Koshia! Haha!"

She closed her eyes, and said softly, but still audibly, "You are far more human than what we originally dealt with."

I stay silent for a moment in response, then continue. "Do you mind taking me to Maz? I can't exactly move as you can see."

"Oh, yes, of course!" She comes over to try and pick me up from the desk.

The sundial doesn't budge at all.

"I… can't move you, Lord Matthias."

I sigh. "It's to be expected, even Maz had a little difficulty at first. Do you think you could call him over instead?"

"That would probably be best…" She left the room to go snag Maz and bring him over.

I simply waited. I worked hard enough, I was too tired to do anymore. 'System, how do I rest if I can't sleep?'

(Answer: The Eldritch race enjoy going into a state of meditation. This refreshes their minds, although does take a while to get out of when you first enter the state.)

'Meditation, huh? It definately would be an interesting replacement for sleep… How long is the meditation?'

(Answer: each individuals first time in an Eldritches meditation is different. The circumstances for each person can cause a change in the time, as well as each person simply taking different amounts of time. The shortest meditation for a beginner Eldritch was 13 hours and 27 minutes, while the longest still has not ended.)

I sweat drop. 'I could get stuck in meditation forever?'

(Answer: No. That one person was simply extremely unlucky. The average time for a beginner meditation is 14 hours.)

'Well that's convenient.' I think to myself as I hear laughing in the distance, quickly approaching this room.a

"Hm? Someones that happy already? We haven't done anything yet!" I think, thinking that people happiness is attributed to our success, simply because I was getting delusional.

The laughing was just outside the door. "Haha, sorry Lord Matthias, I completely forgot that you couldn't move! Hahaha!" Maz entered the room with Koshia following closely behind.

I yawn. "It's fine, what did you want to talk about?"

"I'll get straight to the point, I don't think it's a good idea to introduce everything to everyone yet."

"Huh? You were originally for it, why not now?"

"Because it's pitch black outside."

"Fair point, I can't help but say I am getting tired as well. Shall we call it a night?"

"Yes!" Maz screamed immediately.

I laugh a little at that. "Maz, if you are tired, you don't need to force yourself, just get someone to tell me that you are headed to bed, alright?"

He looked a little embarrassed. "Sorry…"

"Before we settle down for the night, however, we need to do one last thing. Who should be the Pope?"

"Do we need to decide the Pope now?"

"Well, if we don't we will likely have to continue to delay the announcement."

Maz was lost in thought, but still spoke. "Well, there's a few people that could act as Pope; The main person that comes to mind is Elder, but he is in his last years…"

'I, unfortunately, cannot help Maz here,' I think to myself. 'Having him think for hinself will be good for his character development. Besides, I don't know anyone in this village other than Maz and Koshia.'

"Lord Matthias?"

"Yes, Maz?"

"Can Ma be Pope?"
