Julian was doing the tanking, Sophia was barely holding out and I had just returned to join the fight after securing Eve.
The skeleton was relentlessly casting ice magic spells towards us and we were trying our best to block them.
'That thing is clearly toying with us... Does it think we're stupid? It's capable of destroying all of this property and expects us to believe it can't use better spells against us?', I thought.
Looking at Sophia's uncomfortable and annoyed face, I could tell that she had realised it too.
Julian's face was expressionless though, which was understandable because he has a decade's worth of experience in this kind of thing.
"Guys! How much longer can you fight?!", I yelled.
"I've got enough juice to go for a few more hours!", replied Julian.
"Me too!", Sophia followed.
"Alright! I think we can defeat that thing then!", I yelled.
The plan was simple. I could deal blunt damage with my gravity magic, which was one of the biggest weaknesses of the undead. Julian and Sophia would defend me while I would get up close and personal with the sorcerer and deal damage to it.
The problem was my mana pool. It was disgustingly low. While they could go on for hours, I could barely go on for 20 minutes. It's not a problem if there are mobs to kill nearby since I can absorb mana with Amaranth, but when fighting a boss, It was a big pain.
"So, This is the plan...", I told them my plan while defending against the attacks of the sorcerer and fighting the icy winds. My energy magic helped but it wasn't completely blocking the cold...
"Sounds like a good plan...", Julian said after retreating from the front lines when the sorcerer was focusing its attacks on Sophia.
"WELL, DO IT QUICKLY THEN! I CAN'T HOLD IT OFF FOR MUCH LONGER!", Sophia yelled.
Me and Julian nodded and I sprinted towards the sorcerer while Julian followed me and signalled Sophia to do the same.
*BOOM!* *SHANG!* *SHATTER* *WHOOSH!* *CLANG!*
The sound of Julian's sword shattering the ice and Sophia's wind magic diverting the ice echoed through the wreckage of the battleground.
The cold was extremely uncomfortable but I managed to stay calm thanks to Mage's Fortitude.
"Psychokinesis...", I chanted, picking up a metal pipe that was fallen on the ground nearby.
I threw the pipe toward's the sorcerer with all my might.
*WHOOSH!* *CLAAAANG!* *SHATTER!*
Immediately, I chanted "Gravity Bullet.", shooting the implosive purple ball toward's the sorcerer with bullet speed.
The pipe was blocked by the ice barrier created by the sorcerer even though the barrier itself was broken which made the way for the gravity bullet to go through and hit the ground near the sorcerer, imploding violently and damaging the sorcerer's bones.
"We have to continue like this...", I said to which everyone nodded in agreement.
But as soon as I said that, the temperature in our surroundings became even colder.
A shiver ran down my spine.
'It's enraged... now it'll take us seriously...', I thought.
"Be prepared! It's now getting serious!", I yelled.
Suddenly, I could feel mana being pulled toward's the sorcerer.
We all looked at its direction.
"No... Way...", Sophia said dumbfoundedly.
The sorcerer was casting high-intermediate level ice magic, Frost Phalanx. It creates an arch of 10 6 ft long lances above the sorcerer's person and shoots them toward any target the sorcerer wishes, whenever he wishes.
Instantly, 3 lances heralded toward's us with immense speed and force.
"Storm Cannon!", Sophia shouted, creating a massive gust of wind that compressed into a vortex of wind that shot out toward's the direction of the lances.
But it couldn't stop the lances completely. They were still fatally dangerous.
"Force Smash!", I chanted, finally stopping the lances and shattering them.
But this was no success...
'7 more of those... Haha... This is impossible...', I thought.
Looking at Sophia, she had terror in her eyes and her body shivered from time to time.
Julian still looked calm and it seemed like he had a plan to get out of this.
"This isn't working... We don't have any fire magic to counter the ice magic... Are we gonna die here...?", Sophia spoke tremblingly.
"Gravity bullet.", I wasted no time dwindling and shot a gravity bullet toward's one of the lances, landing the bullet and shattering it with the implosion.
"KHHHAAAAAA!!!!", a bone-chilling and hollow cry pierced through the air, making me falter.
The Undead Sorcerer was completely enraged now.
It raised its bony hands in the air and violently swung them in our direction, shooting all 6 lances toward's us with a speed even greater than before.
"Bad call...", Julian said while smirking.
He used his aura to maximize his strength, and launched himself up in the air, dodging the lances and landing right in front of the undead sorcerer.
"STORM CANNON! ATMOSPHERIC BARRIER! WIND COAT!", Sophia chanted together, which had most definitely cost her a ton of mana and mental strength, judging from her facial expression.
"Dark Lance. Stone Barrage. Force smash.", I also chanted, which made me a bit dizzy.
'I'm almost completely out of mana now... if it doesn't end here, I'm dead...', I told myself.
The spells collided with the ice lances and thankfully defended us.
But...
'It's all up to Julian now... He was able to close the distance with the sorcerer... It's only a matter of time until he wins now...', I thought.
"Argh! Keuk...", Sophia fell to the ground, which was natural. She used so many high-level spells in succession. It was only natural for the recoil of that to be extreme.
'She's in no condition to fight either...'
But thankfully, I knew Julian could handle it. He was the protagonist after all...
Sure enough... it looked like he was winning.
--- Julian's POV ---
'This guy stinks...', Julina thought while slashing away at the ice barriers created by the undead skeleton in desperation.
This had suddenly gone from a boss fight to a one-sided battle with Julian on the winning side.
"Khh! Khg!", the undead skeleton was helpless once Julian had closed the distance between them.
Now, if it was a normal swordsman, he/she probably would have backed off a long time ago because of the cold and ice particles and the sorcerer would have recovered its distance.
But Julian was no ordinary swordsman. The puny cold created by the sorcerer meant nothing to him and the ice particles couldn't even touch him because they melted as soon as they made contact with Julian's aura-covered body.
The outcome of the fight was already decided.
And after a minute or two of slashing and chasing, Julian emerged victorious.
A rather anticlimactic boss battle for Julian, but a very close call for Samuel and Sophia.
This realization made Samuel feel bitter and inferior to Julian, but grateful at the same time. He promised himself to fix his mana issue as soon as he returned home.
Sophia on the other hand... Let's just say she was 'captivated' and 'highly interested' towards Julian. 'Romantically Interested'.
