Chapter 48 - Another Bossfight?!

The Bloody Witch was something that Julian had come across in the other world. It was a title bestowed upon the monarch of the Witch race of demons. They were a race that only produced female offspring and required the help of males from other races to reproduce.

They were one of the few monsters Julian came across who had intelligence. Although they had all gone insane and had little to no touch with reality, only mindlessly battling other demons.

He couldn't hold meaningful conversations with any of the witches he slayed, only insults and rantings of obscure stuff.

Julian had a deep hatred for demons and he would kill every last one of them if he could. But unfortunately, things were a little more complicated here. If Evangeline really was revealed to be a witch, Julian would have to see if she was worth keeping alive or not. In the sense that whether she will become a threat to him or not.

Also, there was the matter of Samuel. Julian did not want to get on the bad side of Samuel since he suspected Samuel knew something about his transmigration to the other world and back.

All in all, Julian was now more confused than ever. If Evangeline really was a demon, she was the first non-insane demon Julian had ever seen in his life. If she wasn't and this was all just a big misunderstanding, then Evangeline was the most unlucky individual Julian had ever seen.

But the possibility of this being a misunderstanding was negligible since the 'Quest' Sophia mentioned was something that only a being with power comparable to a Bloody Witch could make and implement. Also, the rewards for the quest were all magic-based, so it would make sense if the developer of the quest was also originally a mage, which all witches were.

It made too much sense for Evangeline to be a Witch. An heir to the monarch of witches on top of that.

'Things just got a lot more complicated...', Julian thought.

--- Back to Samuel and Eve ---

We were now at the foot of the hill, preparing to climb up.

"Dark Lift.", I chanted to myself and Eve, decreasing our weight several folds.

"WH-Whoa!", Eve seemed to suddenly lose her balance and was about to collide with the hill's incline.

"Careful!", thankfully, however, I managed to catch her by her waist and prevented her from the collision.

She looked at me with a slight smile and said "Th-thanks... I'll be more careful from now on..."

'Hm? That's strange... Usually, if I touched her physically, no matter the reason, she would always get mad and even hit me... On top of that, this one was clearly my fault, I should've warned her about the spell... But she thanked me instead? Weird... Must be a side effect of the Undead Sorcerer she was fighting before...', I thought.

"Crimson Lance.", Eve chanted calmly, materialising a blood-red spear out of an equally red magic sigil. The spear looked like it was made of rubies.

The spear shot towards an undead Vulcan that was preparing to attack us.

"Clean shot...", I complimented Eve to which she smiled and said "Thanks!".

It seemed that Eve didn't have any major psychological trauma after the incident with the Undead Sorcerer. This was only natural though, given her dark past.

Looking to the side, I could see the teachers slowly starting to fall back and slow down.

William's firestorms were now smaller and dimmer than before, a sign that indicated the depletion of most of his mana pool.

The same could be said for Mrs Anna. Her sword strikes had slowed down significantly, and although I couldn't see her face and body from that distance, I could tell she was running out of Aura too. The long stripes of aura that were being shot into the sky were shorter and slower.

"Gravity Bullet.", I chanted coldly, shooting down another flying undead.

I decided to look away from the ugly, yet fantastical battle near the mother dungeon gate and instead focused on getting across the hill.

Because Julian didn't take this path in the novel, it wasn't specified how to cross the hill or what challenges lay ahead.

But this wasn't too much of an issue. During the few months I have stayed in this world, fighting with difficult opponents, I have developed a very strong mentality. At least stronger than what I had previously.

Improvising during a fight wasn't too much of a big deal for me right now.

--- After climbing for 10 minutes ---

Things were going smoothly and both Eve and I were doing well.

Until-

*KHHAAAAAA!!!!* *WHOOSSH!*

"SHIT! GET DOWN!", I yelled, ducking down to avoid the huge, bony claws of the zombified wyvern that just flew past us.

The Wyvern, after missing us, flew into the sky and landed some 20 meters in front of us with an earth-shaking thud.

*BOOM!!*

Dust and smoke filled the air around the grotesque-looking monster.

It lacked an eye, its body was rotting and produced a disgusting smell. Its feet had little to no muscle, just bones. The wings had a few holes in them too, although not enough to affect its flight ability. All in all, the thing was intimidating as hell.

'It shouldn't have any magical attacks at least...', I tried to look at the bright side of things.

'Damn... This island wasn't Mystic at all... They should've named this island 'Boss Island' with the way things are going now...', I complained.

If Mage's Fortitude wasn't activated, I would have surely just lost my life...

'I regret making the stupid choice of crossing the hill... this boss is harder than the one down in the forest...'

But there was no use in complaining. Looking at the battle near the mother dungeon gate, we didn't have enough time to climb down the mountain and go through the forest again...

In other words, we had no choice but to either fight and defeat it or run past it with all our might.

While I do value honor and I find it cool to win battles, there was absolutely no way I was gonna fight an undead Wyvern, so I chose the second option, even though I had to embrace cowardice.

"Eve! Run!", I yelled.
