Chapter 5 - First Class.

The dormitory I got was on the 10th floor of the building. My room was bigger than my own apartment. Also, because I did so good at the exams, I got to have this dormitory entirely to myself! Thats 's right, I have no roommate, which is for the good, since I will be training in here with gravity magic.

The uniforms were already inside the dorm. They were lying on the bed. I took the 2 sets of uniforms and neatly put them inside the wardrobe.

Classes would start from the next day, so I had plenty of time to prepare.

I decided to slack off for the day and crashed on the bed.

I woke up the next morning with a good night's sleep, and went to the bathroom.

I took a shower, got dressed in my new uniform, and left the room.

The classroom I was assigned to wasn't the main cast's classroom, thankfully.

By the way, the uniform of this academy is drippy as fuck! Dark navy-blue blazer, black tie, white shirt, navy blue trousers, black boots. I looked kinda handsome, not gonna lie.

Although I'm sure I would look even more handsome if I had 'my own' face. I wouldn't like to burst my own bubble, but I was definitely more handsome than this Samuel Francis.

I got to my class 5 minutes prior to the start of the class. Most of the students were already present.

'Good... I don't recognize any one of them...', I thought as I walked over to an empty seat next to the window.

No one paid me any attention, which is understandable, since I had nothing special to my character.

After some time, the door to the classroom was violently opened and a handsome man with blond hair and purple eyes entered the room. He had a stern look on his face and was wearing a brown blazer with equally brown trousers. He looked like he was in his mid 30's.

'William Fencer.', I thought.

He was a supporting character in the novel's 'Excursion' arc, where the students were taken to an island for an excursion. Anyways, that is still some time in the future. Also, he was an S rank mage himself.

Everyone simultaneously stopped whatever they were doing and looked at William.

William slowly scanned the whole class with a stoic expression and started talking.

"Hello, everyone. My name is William Fencer. I will be your homeroom teacher this year. You should get one thing straight right now, I do not entertain a waste of time. If I see that you are wasting your time, I won't waste my time to go and correct you, since you will fail anyways. It will just be less work for me."

Everyone's faces turned grim at those words. 'Great... we got a boomer teacher...', everyone probably thought that.

But contrary to his outer look, he is actually a pretty great teacher. He mainly teaches magic and is a mage himself, so I should be able to learn a lot from him.

"Now that that's out of the way, let's start with roll call.", he said.

There were around 40 students in the class, and I was one of them. The roll numbers were assigned by alphabetical order, so it didn't mean anything other than just a form of identification.

My roll number was 26.

"Roll No. 26, Samuel Francis."

I stood up from the seat and said, "Present Sir."

Everyone turned their heads to see me. I expected this, since they all saw my name on the top of the written tests.

"So he's Samuel Francis..."

"The guy who got perfect scores..."

"Wait! I think I saw that guy leave the exam hall way earlier than anyone!"

"Yeah! I saw that too!"

I heard whispers about me, which didn't feel as weird as I'd thought it would. Maybe because I predicted that this might happen?

"Quiet Down.", William spoke up, silencing all the whispers.

"Good job on the written test, Mr. Samuel Francis. I look forward to more of you in class.", He said looking at me with a smirk on his face.

"Absolutely, Sir.", I replied with the same smirk.

"Hmm. Next, Roll No. 27, ...", he continued with the roll call.

'Building a good relationship with William will be extremely beneficial for me... Firstly, I can learn a lot from him about Mana control and strategies about mage combat, and Secondly, William has a very strong backing, since he is one of the strongest executives in the Underground Market...', I thought.

In the novel, William appeared in the academy's excursion arc, where the main character and his friends went to an island to study about monster anatomy and strategy. Unfortunately, the excursion was cut short by the appearance of an S rank dungeon gate. William and some other teachers were the ones who rescued everyone and held back the monsters until proper help arrived. It was later discovered that the 'Help' was actually hunters from the black market, and they had come to back up their boss, William.

He wasn't a villain, but kind of like an overpowered observer of the main cast. He didn't do anything to harm the cast, but he didn't do anything that would help the cast either.

After the roll call was over, we were told that there would be no classes today. We were taken to the training grounds where we were told to pick any weapon we want and start training.

There were all sorts of weapons, raging from swords and spears to bows and crossbows, and ever wands, scepters and staves.

I picked up a wand and went over to a vacant area. Then, I started practicing my energy magic.

At this point I should probably tell you what Energy magic really is.

[Energy Magic]

[It is a type of magic that doesn't rely on any of the elements, such as Fire, Water, Wind or Earth, or even light and darkness. It is a type of magic that directly materializes the mana in the real world in the form of spells. Energy magic has its pros and cons.]

[Pros: It has the highest versatility out of any type of magic. Its uses are far more than just combat, for example, there is a mid-level spell like 'Luminous Chain' that creates a chain of mana that can grab onto things. The caster can use this spell as a kind of grappling hook-type device. Another good spell is 'Illusory Array', which is a barrier type spell that can defend against magical attacks, such as curses, other energy magic spells and even fire magic. 'Reinforcement' is also a very good spell for me, because with gravity magic, I can use the debris in the environment to shoot at the opponent, and if I reinforce the debris with 'Reinforcement', I can maximize the damage output.]

[Cons: Because it's non-elemental magic, it can't exploit the elemental weaknesses of monsters. For example, for killing a fire-type monster you would need ice or water magic to effectively damage it and subjugate it, but with Energy magic, you CAN damage it, but it's extremely inefficient. You would run out of Mana before you can kill the opponent. Another con is that Energy magic ONLY deals magic damage, so if there is an enemy with very high magic resistance, it will do very little damage. The same goes for defensive spells. 'Illusory Array' can only defend against magic attacks, which are ONLY curses, soul-type magic, and Fire Magic (although not that strongly against fire).]

How do I know all this? well, I learnt it from the Internet. The novel didn't have much info about Energy Magic, but apparently, there are already some decent training methods out there on the internet, created by other Energy Magic users. The internet said that Energy magic users were mainly supporting mages, defending and helping the party from curse magics, and mobility.

They were by no means strong, but they were important and highly demanded, as not many people were proficient in Energy magic, and even fewer people specialized in it.

Anyways, the synergy between Energy magic and gravity magic is quite unexpectedly good. Gravity magic ONLY deals physical damage, whereas Energy magic ONLY deals magical damage.

'I'm lucky this Samuel Francis guy was talented in energy magic...', I thought as I continued practising.
