Chereads / Sea of Destruction / Chapter 2 - The Ghoul Dungeon

Chapter 2 - The Ghoul Dungeon

As they approached the gate of the dungeon, it swung open with an eerie creak, as if beckoning them to enter. But what awaited them was far from welcoming. A pungent stench, a sickening combination of feces and death, assaulted their senses, permeating the air and threatening to overpower them.

Geeler wrinkled her nose in disgust and instinctively covered her face. "What is that horrendous smell?" she exclaimed, her voice muffled by her hand.

Geoni seized the opportunity to crack a joke, grinning mischievously as he said, "Smells like Giller before he discovered the joys of soap and water."

Gingh burst into laughter, unable to contain himself at the banter. Giller, feeling the weight of their amusement directed at him, demanded an explanation. "What the hell is so funny?"

Gingh, now nervous, stammered, "Um... well, it was nothing. Just a silly joke."

Giller's gaze intensified, expecting a proper response. Geoni, always ready to pile on, chimed in, "Oh, come on, Gingh, tell him. We all know he's been a walking stink bomb even before this game."

Amidst the commotion, Glores surprisingly admitted, "Um guys, I kinda like this smell." His strange preference for the putrid scent left the others bewildered, but they quickly refocused their attention on the task at hand.

Geh, determined to lead his team to victory, reminded them, "Remember, Giller, protect our squishies with only 6 HP."

Giller responded with a smirk, "That's what I was planning on doing anyway, but I might just let Geoni die for that remark."

Geoni, not one to back down, retorted, "I'll tell you this right now, I won't need your help now or in the future."

Realizing the importance of unity, Gingh interjected, "Let's focus on raising our levels and defeating our rivals. The only way out of here is by destroying every other race, and these ghouls will be our stepping stones."

With determination fueling their steps, the group entered the next chamber of the dungeon, where an army of ghouls awaited them. However, they quickly noticed that these ghouls were sluggish and easily dispatched.

"Well this is easy enough these guys suck." Glores remarked, confidently stacking his active ability, Slayer's Might, up to three powerful charges.

Gyler, ever observant, expressed his suspicion, "No this is too easy, these must be npcs or bots that the game put in the help us grow through our early stages."

Despite the apparent ease, Geh cautioned, "A free level is still a free level, no matter how we obtain it. Stay focused, just in case something unexpected happens."

As the group continued their relentless onslaught, slaying ghouls left and right, they encountered another door, beckoning them deeper into the dungeon. Little did they know that beyond that door, greater challenges and untold secrets awaited, ready to test their mettle and push them to their limits.

The heavy door swung open with a resounding thud, revealing a chilling sight that made their stomachs churn. Before them stretched a vast chamber, its walls adorned with a disturbing display of lifeless bodies stacked from floor to ceiling. The putrid stench of decay engulfed the room, assaulting their senses and threatening to overpower their resolve.

Geeler, struggling to hold back her nausea, couldn't help but express her disgust. "Do we really have to enter that?" she questioned, her voice tinged with both fear and disgust.

As the team exchanged wary glances and weighed their options, seven figures materialized on the opposite side of the ghastly arena. Unlike the mindless bots they had encountered earlier, these Ghouls appeared sentient, their gaze fixed upon the intruders with a mix of curiosity and hostility.

Gyler, ever perceptive, deduced the nature of their encounter. "These must be some players of the Ghoul Race that we have to defeat. They probably got a quest just like us and that's why we would level up if we complete it."

Geeler, her voice tinged with empathy, raised an ethical dilemma. "Aren't they people just like us though, why do we need to kill to get out of here?" Geh and Gingh exchanged somber glances, grappling with the moral implications of their situation.

Geoni, sensible and unwavering cut through the contemplation. "If we don't kill we won't get out of here and I don't know about you guys but I value my life more than some random people that I haven't met." he declared, his resolve unyielding.

Giller chimed in "Hmmm I'm gonna have to agree with dipshit on this one, it's survival of the fittest baby and I'm gonna come out on top." he proclaimed, his eyes scanning their adversaries with a mix of determination and calculation.

Geh assumed the role of leadership, his voice steady and commanding. "Remain vigilant and think tactically," he instructed. "Glores, Gingh, and Geoni, focus your efforts on whoever stays in the backline of their team. Giller, protect our vulnerable members at all costs, and Geeler provide healing support to our frontline warriors. Gyler, seize opportunities to eliminate targets whenever they arise."

With their roles defined and their purpose clarified, the team steeled themselves for the impending battle. Little did they know that this clash with their fellow players would not only test their combat prowess but also challenge their notions of morality, friendship, and the lengths they were willing to go to secure their freedom.

As the two teams drew nearer, their enemies came into sharper focus, revealing a formidable lineup. Among them stood a towering shield user, towering above Giller with bulging muscles that seemed to burst from his body. An air of intimidation surrounded him, accentuated by a disdainful smirk aimed at Giller. Alongside him were two swift assassins, a savage barbarian, a valiant knight, a cunning mage, and a devoted cleric. Each adversary wore a confident smirk, exuding an aura of unwavering certainty that victory was already theirs. The shield-wielding Ghoul emitted a strong aura of impending doom, casting doubt on the Goblin team's chances.

The Shield Ghoul charged at Giller, seeking to assert his dominance, with the rest of his team following suit. In the face of this impending assault, Geh rallied his comrades, barking out a command that reverberated through their ranks, "PREPARE YOURSELVES AND REMEMBER THE PLAN!" However, the Shield Ghoul, tauntingly dismissed their preparations, sneering, "ONLY WEAK BEINGS NEED A PLAN!"

An earth-shattering boom filled the air as shield clashed against shield, causing Giller to recoil momentarily from the impact. Yet, the muscular Ghoul merely laughed, relentlessly pounding Giller's shield without stopping. Beads of sweat formed on Giller's face as he valiantly endured the onslaught.

Suddenly, with a commanding roar, the Shield Ghoul bellowed, "SHIELD SLAM," delivering a punishing blow that caused Giller's shield to lower, leaving him dazed and disoriented. Seizing the opportunity, the Knight Ghoul moved in to strike Giller while he was vulnerable. But just as the knight swung his weapon, Glores intercepted the attack, halting the sword mid-swing. Activating the power of slayers might, Glores' bulging veins became visible, a sign he was not accustomed to this strength. With a surge of power, he swung his scythe, aiming to cleave through the knight's defenses. The knight attempted to block the strike, but Glores infused his attack with even greater force, shattering the knight's defense and leaving a deep, gory gash across his neck.

Glores couldn't help but smirk, finally finding satisfaction in a true battle that alleviated his longing. Meanwhile, the enemy mage began chanting a spell to aid the wounded knight, only to be interrupted by the sudden appearance of Geoni, a Goblin assassin. Silent as a whisper, Geoni materialized behind the mage, his daggers slashing at an incredible speed, tearing into her back repeatedly.

"AAAAAAA!!!" Her piercing screams reverberated throughout the arena, reaching the ears of all who bore witness. Desperately attempting to crawl away, she became a hapless target for Geoni's sadistic onslaught. In a disturbing twist, Geoni's dagger seemed to glide through her flesh effortlessly, as if it defied the laws of physics. The mage expelled a mouthful of blood before collapsing to the ground, lifeless. Geoni, his face smeared with the Ghoul's blood, wore a malevolent smile, resembling a demon incarnate. A collective shudder rippled through the onlookers, struck with a profound sense of fear.

Amidst this momentary distraction, Glores swiftly pivoted, thrusting his scythe into the knight's face, the deadly blade protruding from the other side. Brains and flesh clung to the weapon, but the Shield Ghoul seemed unbothered, wearing a smile that suggested a disregard for his comrades life.

Simultaneously, the two assassins stealthily closed in on Geeler, intent on ending her life just as Geoni had done to their mage. In a moment of realization, Geh's voice thundered, "GILLER!!!" Startled awake from his stupor, Giller swiftly leaped into action, intercepting one of the assassins, while Geh engaged the other. A flurry of blows exchanged between Geh and the assassin, crimson trails tracing their wounds. Giller, displaying remarkable agility and skill, skillfully blocked each strike, his body unyielding to the enemy's onslaught.

Seizing an opening, Geh brandished his sharp club, catching the assassin off guard. Desperate to defend himself, the assassin attempted to block the attack with his wrist, a familiar tactic. But Geh's strike was swift and brutal, severing the assassin's hand. "NOOOOO, PLEASE!" the assassin pleaded, tears streaming down his face. Geh, unmoved by his pleas, delivered a final strike, cleaving the assassin's cranium in two.

Meanwhile, as Giller fended off strike after strike, Geeler unleashed her orb, skillfully striking the remaining assassin with precision, leaving a trail of bruising across his body. Suddenly, four arrows whistled through the air, finding their mark in each of the assassin's limbs, rendering him immobile. Collapsing to the ground, the assassin lay defeated. Giller seized the opportunity, slamming his shield forcefully into the ghoul's head, resulting in a sickening splat upon impact.

In a clash near a wall adorned with lifeless bodies, Gingh and the barbarian ghoul engaged in a brutal duel. Mocking Gingh, the barbarian jeered, "Now that I'm up close and personal, you've got one big-ass nose, AHAHAA." Unfazed, Gingh tapped into his iron willpower, delivering a powerful strike to the right. Though the barbarian managed to block the blow, the force behind it sent him hurtling into the wall of corpses.

Gingh emitted a fierce shriek that drew the attention of all present. Witnessing the scene, onlookers watched in horror as Gingh unleashed a barrage of punches, relentlessly pounding the barbarian ghoul into the wall of flesh. The barbarian, overwhelmed by the assault, found himself vomiting and defecating, his body withering away until he was just another body on the wall. Emerging from the gory spectacle, Gingh emerged, he had blood, urine, shit, and snot all over himself.

With his entire team mercilessly slaughtered before his eyes, the Shield Ghoul, filled with terror, found himself paralyzed, unable to move an inch. Sobbing, he cried out, "MONSTERS! YOU ALL ARE MONSTERS!!!" Frantically seeking an escape, his desperate pleas fell upon deaf ears. In an instant, a cold, raspy voice whispered in his ear as a dagger slid through his skull, silencing him forever. "Of course we're monsters. Look at us, we are Goblins for fuck's sake," Geoni declared, bringing an end to the battle.

Geoni, wiping the blood from his face, chimed in, "At least our party is pretty competent in battle, it felt like our coordination was pretty good back there."

Geeler, engrossed in exploring the vast skill tree, commented excitedly, "Have you guys seen the skill tree it's huge."

Geh, thoroughly examining his options in the skill tree, agreed, "Your right this ability tree is giant. It goes into every instance I can think of for my class. I could probably be a hybrid build with anything. This system gives more than meets the eye."
