"Hi, Emma," Lewis walked into the room, offering me a slight nod.
"Hi, Lewis," I replied, though his unexpected visit left me feeling quite surprised. An undercurrent of unease coursed through me. Why would he come to visit me now? I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The last time I had seen him was at the grand square when we had all gathered to see Alex off. Beyond that, our interactions had been few and far between, and I wouldn't exactly describe them as pleasant.
"Emma," he began, his tone serious, "how are you feeling?"
His concern caught me off guard. I nodded, slightly puzzled. "I'm okay. What's going on, Lewis?"
He settled into a chair next to my bed, his gaze locked onto mine with an intensity that made me even more apprehensive. "I warned you, Emma. I told you that being with Alex would only complicate things, put both of you in danger."
