A loud howl sliced through the silent night and a woman lying on the ground outside groaned in annoyance.
"Let me sleep." She mumbled but the cold biting through her skin couldn't let her go back to sleep. Her eyes flung open and a pair of brown irises gazed into the starry sky. She blinked in daze as the memories came flooding in.
"Where am i!?" She panicked when she realised that this was not the castle. She tried to seat up multiple times but her limbs refused to obey her command. She couldn't even move a finger!.
The last thing she remembered was losing consciousness in that hallway, how was she here?.
"Delicious.... tasty." A slimy like voice whispered and Lisa shivered. This wasn't the type of whisper she was familiar with and she wasn't going to stay around to find out whatever it was.
She scrunched her face, pushing through the invisible force that held her to the ground and fortunately, she was able to lift a finger!.
"Yes! That's a good start, now just to-" She started but a tall cloth that stoood at the side of a broken building halted her speech.
Her eyes widened, this couldn't be real.
Tall black cloth, disfigured face. One side of the face was melting and the other side was completely skeletal. The jaw hanged loosely as the teeth seemed to be missing, the eye was squashed in the sockets and only a few strands of black hair was planted on the skull, the black cloth stopped just above the knees and a long bony leg was seen with the right one which faced an odd angle.
"Tasty...tasty soul.." It growled, limping towards Lisa who screamed in terror.
She struggled, trying to move herself off the ground but she only succeeded in moving another finger!
At this rate, she was going to get eaten!.
The creature was just at a breaths distance and just at that moment, Lisa managed to move her torso, barely evading the sharp claws of the creature.
Jumping on her feet, she took to her heels, about to run but fell down face flat when she realised that her feet refused to move!. Her hair that covered her face shifted away from her face and she mummered.
"Thanks." Her sight was now clear and realisation dawned on her in the worse way possible.
There was only one person here with her and she doubted that anyone would have done that except..
"Taste...tasy soul." A pungent smell hit her nose as she stared up close at the disfigured creature that leaned into her face. She didn't know where the strength came from but she pulled herself off the floor and kicked the creature's face with the heel of her shoes, immediately turning to the opposite direction and taking off.
This time, her legs seemed to be in much better shape than before and she ran like her life depended on it. She could still hear the creature calling out to her but she paid a deaf ear to it.
The houses which lined on opposite sides of her were dark and eerie, broken windows, spoilt gates, crows perched at the top of dead trees and the already dark night seemed to grow darker.
Black coats lurked around the windows, making Lisa to increase her speed frightfully. She spotted a good hiding spot in one of the eerie houses and approached it quickly.
She wouldn't have done that on a norms, but desperate times called for desperate measures.
She quickly entered the house which had no gate and locked the door carefully. Turning back, she held her breath. It felt like she had just walked into a hunted house.
The carpet in the entrance was stained by what looked like dry blood, the walls were pulled and charred as it looked like it suffered a fire outbreak. There were few broken pieces of wood here and there which she couldn't identify.
She took a step forward and a sharp pain passed through her feet, making her almost scream but she held her mouth tightly.
The window creaked slowly and she turned around to see the black coated creatures roaming around the exterior of the house. Focusing back on her feet, she raised it up to see blood that dripped out of the wound made by a sharp nail that now stuck to her leg.
Taking a deep breath, she tried to pull it out but the pain that shot through her body afterwards stopped her from doing so.
She limped further inside the house to see a space she noted as the living room, it was in the same condition as the entrance but this time, the chairs didn't look too burnt but rather seemed to be in a fair condition.
"Welcome to my humble home...Lisa." A sweet voice spoke and Lisa looked up the stairs to see a woman with a white flowing gown and her face she couldn't identify because of how dark that area was.
"Thank God there are humans here. Please, do you know where I am?" Lisa asked hopefully. If there was another human here then there was a high chance of her getting out of her unscathed.
"Of course I do. You are in what I like to call the mirror world sweetie." The woman answered but still didn't attempt to take any further steps towards lisa which puzzled her.
"The mirror world? Is that in the underworld?" Asked Lisa, the suspicion in her mind growing larger.
There was something very wrong here.
"The mirror world is on the other side of the underworld, showing merely reflections of what resides in the underworld and living world." She spoke and took a step forward but Lisa couldn't still make out her face and that action didn't go unnoticed by her.
"Trying to make out what I look like?" The voice almost sounded mocking and Lisa readied herself for anything that was going to happen next.
"If I say I was, will that make a difference?" Lisa as taunted and a skin crawling laughter was heard next.
"You are smarter than I thought. It must have been because of him huh?" She asked, jealousy evident in the tone of her voice and Lisa stepped backwards. How this human was knowing these things about her was more than enough bad news already.
"Ready, set, go!" She counted down and stepped into the moonlight that highlighted her features and Lisa gasped, stumbling backwards.
"It can't be."
