Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Training

Before I left my house I ran down all of my steps and forgot to bring the most important part. My spear so I went back the stairs to my room and grabbed the spear. It was pretty embarrassing to forget the most important part but no one saw it. So I am safe from embarrassment!

For the first test, he just wanted me to strike the dummy to see how my technique is at. The technique isn't something you can fake even with a mastery skill. It is the experience you have gotten through years of training and fighting. I have only had this skill for a few days. So I have no technique.

After five minutes of striking the dummies, Berin told me to stop. With a disappointed look on his face, he knows my technique is a complete newbie. He took a wooden spear and started to explain various things.

For starters, he explained when using the spear you need to have square footing. A spearman's weak point. Is his sides and up close. You don't want your enemy to take advantage of those weak points.

He asked me what have I been using all my life and against what. I told him I have always used a sword and that goblins are the only thing I can kill. When I said the word goblin he sighed.

"What do you think you are? A goblin slayer? Why kill just goblins? Did they like to attack your village or something, HAHA!" Bren laughed while talking.

I was very insulted by that statement. I mean I could kill slimes and goblins but I would rather be known for slaying goblins than slimes. Slimes don't fight back and can be a problem if they are in a group.

Only a little problem that doesn't take much effort to get rid of. Goblins are crafty creatures that in a group are hard to deal with. I feel better-killing goblins than slimes. Proving I am useful.

He laughed for a while and then calmed down. Once he did he taught me a skill. We trained for three hours until a message appeared in my head. That is a skill that spear users can learn.

To learn this skill I focused on thrusting the spear into a wall of dirt. I had to focus my muscles on a single point and aim the spear until I could destroy a wall in a single strike.

True Strike is a once-a-day spear skill that can have a great potential to break an enemy's defense. Like, shattering a barrier that Demonic Beasts have. Beasts like Dragons have a barrier that is always active. An A or S-ranked can easily beat it without skill. A C-rank adventurer with this skill has about 40% to break its barrier.

Since I learned the skill he said we would go on a quest. A quest against something other than goblins. Since he says I need to fight against beasts that are stronger to grow faster. You don't want to gain too much experience at once. One influence child got a big head and slayed a giant.

He survived his body changing but from what he says it was hell. Your muscles and organs turning and contouring to have a body to fit its stats. So we will just go one up on the Demonic Beast.

Skeletons are the next step in my becoming stronger. I have encountered them before but it is weird seeing bone structures animated. So I hate to say this but I just ran away when encountering them. Most people can handle bones creaking while walking but I can't.

Well, I will be able to now with a high-rank adventurer with me. An ex-adventuerer but still. He is still strong to help me if I mess up badly. After a short break, we went to the Adventurers Guild. Luna was there again in the black and white dress she bought.

That girl knows how to rock good dresses. I can't help but stare at her for a second. Bern notices and put a hand on my shoulder. When I looked he winked at me with a thumbs up. I don't know what he is implying but alright man.

We grabbed a skeleton quest and brought it to Luna. When I brought the quest to Luna. Her demeanor changed. She started speaking softer when I arrived.

"He-hello Sephker. Who are you partying with today?" She said while focusing on me. With a strawberry-like face.

"Oh, his name is Bern. He is an ex-adventuerer. He is here to help me today." I said bluntly.

"Wait he is helping you today? That is rare, my boss has sent him requests to come back all the time. Yet now he is here to help you? I knew the great Sephker could convince strong people to help him." She said her eyes closed with a bright smile.

Don't call me great is what I said in my head. I am still a weak person. I am only great because I had to sin to get a favor. I can't help but feel sad when she says how good I am with an innocent smile.

"Anyways Sephker you are permitted to hunt 3 skeletons. To get proof of subjugation please bring the lower jaw. Bring the bones if you want to receive a bigger reward." She said innocently.

Man, I like when she uses words like that. No, no, no lust temper down. You need to work today! Stop thinking about Luna. After receiving the quest paper back I left the place immediately.

Because I was moving fast we arrived at an abandoned village. This village used to be a village where the dead would be laid to rest. A witch in hiding cursed the land so the dead can rise. She was found to be dead after the ritual was done. Thankfully one dead witch isn't around terrorizing more villages.

I can't help but be nervous in this village. It was a place that had a bright vibrant life despite the role this village had. It fell only six years ago. This place used to be called Sweet Rose.
