The name had a somber meaning. Most people would place roses by the graves of loved ones. It brought people sadness but also happiness because it brought families back together. A very bittersweet meaning.
I can see skeletons already. These monsters rely on sounds. You can be right next to them and as long as you don't make a sound or touch them. They don't react. Even if you sneezed softly they will just think of you as some animal. When you speak or cough, that is when they react.
They also react to loud sounds like a weapon clashing into bones. Blunt weapons typically have a better advantage on a creature like this. I got a spear though and Bern says I need to fight stronger monsters. This is also a good lesson in itself. You won't always have the best weapon for the job.
Bern whispered in my ear to find one and gets its attention. He said if more than one attacks he will grab the other's attention. Thankfully we were walking a little bit and five minutes in we saw our first Skeleton.
I attacked its spine with the side of the tip. Which made it stagger for a second. It proceeded to turn around and run at me with its rusty sword up. Right before it swung down I pivoted and backed up. I was now in a good position.
I made some distance between me and the Demonic Beasts. I am in a defensive stance. I have my spear low ready to strike. Doing everything that Bern taught me when fighting with the spear. At least one style of fighting. He doesn't have a name for this fighting style.
So I just called it Bern Style. This style from my perspective is mostly stabbing motions. And attacking the legs first. If you attack the legs it can't run at you or run away. When it took a step and raised its rusty sword I poked it. I gave a quick jab with my spear.
I hit it just right. The leg fell apart and now it's balance was lost. I then gave a stab near its head. The body and head were both where separated. The Skeleton no longer moved.
After a small win, I did a little victory dance. Bern however was disappointed. He wanted me to keep dodging and attacking. Shouldn't have done the kill shot yet. He says I need more experience fighting them.
I do feel great though. So much so I wanted to check my status but I need to focus. Maybe I didn't gain anything and just feel a rush of happiness killing a beast other than goblins. I know goblins are terrifying creatures that knab women to have intimacy. And killing them is good for the world.
Killing only them for years would get anyone bored. Killing only goblins made me bored multiple times. I am getting excited now after killing a skeleton. I think the next Beast I will practice more on it. Hopefully, it is strong enough that it doesn't die immediately.
Well, you get what you asked for. We see a bigger skeleton. A higher rank than common skeletons. They still go by the name skeletons but instead of rank F they are ranked D. They are about 25% bigger in height and width. So when they swing they have a lot more power behind it.
I have to attack this monster with caution. I don't think I can take it if other monsters get involved. The thing is skeletons are attracted by noise. When a skeleton is like that when it is big-boned swings. A lot of noise is made when it hit things.
By itself, a big-boned skeleton is a D-ranked monster. When fighting a big-boned skeleton and multiple skeletons. Well, that can lead to an A-rank mission. With a retired S rank I feel like we can handle many monsters that reach a B-rank mission. I don't want that to happen. Prepare for bad and then if it gets worse at least you are prepared for bad stuff.
I was sneaked up to the back of the skeleton. I am thinking about using my skill on the spine of the big-boned skeleton. Which was hard because I almost bumped into multiple skeletons. When I got close I readied myself and was about to strike. Except my mentor made an oopsie.
He drank whiskey or some brown liquid that I see on his face. He then proceeds to burp loud. No like so loud it echoed. The only type of burp that can happen when people get drunk.
This made a lot of skeletons in the surrounding area turn in my direction and run toward Bern. It's time to fight Skeletons.
One skeleton was about to run into me so I stabbed it between the ribs. It stunned it for a second and I was to push it back. What I didn't expect was another skeleton to attack me from behind. My harden leather stopped a majority of the damage. I still received a little cut and the hardened leather on my back is now useless.
I was able to take my rare sword from my belt and do a quick swipe. Of course with more muscle memory with a sword. A quick swipe was enough for it to fall apart. I put my sword away since I want to focus on the spear.
About 20 minutes passed and a majority of the skeletons were defeated. Mostly by Bern but I was able to fight a lot of them. I am scratched up a lot. And all the old gear I never had to replace except a few times I had to get it adjusted for my size. Is now useless. It's all torn up. No, I shouldn't look at it negatively.
It served its purpose finally. It should be happy that it was used to protect. It served its purpose and if armor have feelings. I bet it is happy it did what it was created for.
Bern was fighting 10 skeletons and the big-boned one by himself. He is having a hard time attacking the monsters. It seems like they are like goblins. In the way when there are multiple of them, they get smart.
After dealing with a few more F-rank skeletons and getting cut lightly on my shoulder I ran towards Bern. It is time for us to kill these monsters collect the resources and leave.
