Regina helped him up and together they began to slowly make their way towards the smell of the sea they couldn't move as fast as before but they were already very close. The forest trees keep them well hidden from the chopper lights that kept on moving pass them at tremendous speed obviously searching for them.
"we need a plan" he said meeting Regina's eyes.
"They're already waiting for us at the beach and there would be no cover for us there."
"Well, what do you want us to do? We can't stay here either, can we?" she asked, turning her head. "They'll burn down the entire forest in search of us. They don't want any survivors; this has been planned for months, if not years. We were simply too ignorant to notice, and now..."
She abruptly ceased speaking and burst into tears. Alex pulled her into his arms as she sobbed holding into him, he knew exactly how she felt.
Their friends, family every one they've ever known gone in one night. Their own survival was not ever sure at the moment.
They were outnumbered and surrounded in every possible way. He was very confident the moment they arrived at the shore they'll be walking into an already staged battle field and the poison although neutralized had weakened them greatly.
"Alex the kids we'll never see them again. This truly is the end isn't it."
"No it isn't." he said turning her to face him
"We'll find a way to survive we always do and you don't have to worry about the kids Krish will take care of them. They'll be fine."
Regina smiled sadly looking up at him. And then she hugged him "I love you. You know that right, I always have. Even when you were to stupid to notice".
Alex smiled surprised at how her emotions went from one end to the other so fast but then again that was classic Reggie. It was one of the many things he loved about her. The ability to find even the smallest atom of joy and hold on to it even in the most bizarre circumstances. It made him proud that she was his mate
"I love you too, more than you ever know. More than I've ever showed and if this indeed the end I'm glad I had you in my life".
Raising her head to face him He kissed her slowly and passionately putting all he had in that one kiss and she kissed him back with just the same intensity.
Alex and Regina came out from the forest hand in hand and stood face to face at gun point against the soldiers this was it either survival or death they were going all out. From what he could see the soldiers had come with the whole Calvary.
Over 300 military personnel stood in formation, their weapons trained on the pair. Armored trucks and tanks rumbled along the sand, and four menacing black helicopters circled overhead like vultures waiting for their prey.
Alex's heart sank as he realized their escape plan would be a whole lot more difficult than he had anticipated. Regina's hand shook in his as they stood before the heavily armed soldiers, their weapons trained on them like a death sentence. The sun beat down mercilessly on their backs, and sweat trickled down their faces.
A tall, stern-looking officer stepped forward from the crowd, his uniform adorned with medals and insignia. He surveyed the pair with a cold, calculating gaze before speaking in a harsh, commanding tone.
"Surrender yourselves now and you will not be harmed," he barked, his hand twitching on the trigger of his rifle. "You are outnumbered and outgunned. Resistance is futile."
Alex and Regina exchanged a glance, steeling themselves for the inevitable confrontation. They had known the risks when they came out from the forest, but they were determined to see it through to the end. Knowing exactly what they had to do, Alex stepped forward and raised his hands in surrender. Regina followed suit, her eyes darting nervously around the massive force that had cornered them.
The soldiers hesitated and remain motionless for a while. It was obvious that they never expected them to come peacefully. The wind suddenly gathered up the sand and began to whirl it in circles around them. The troops immediately began shooting at them.
Alex drew the air about them, compressing it until solid substance formed, stopping the bullets from reaching them and In the midst of the soldiers' constant fire, a tornado raged in the middle of the beach.
Gradually as the chaos broke out They began to make their way to the sea in the middle of the tornado. While it was impossible for themselves to get caught up in it as Regina was controlling it from inside, the army on the other hand were trying their best to prevent themselves from been pulled into the raging natural disaster.
With the bullets unable to reach them inside and the storm clearing a path for them, Alex was beginning to believe that they would escape but just as the thought crossed his mind he saw through the dust and wind some new military vans arriving the beach at a safe distance from the storm.
The back was opened and a structure that looked very much like a very advance solar panel was brought out from each of the vehicles. What ever that was he had a feeling it couldn't be good. They had to get away from the beach before it was used.
"Reggie" He shouted through the noise.
"forget the tornado change of plans something is not right. We have to reach the water now"
Without waiting for her response he pulled the air as tight around them as possible to prevent the bullets from reaching them and they let the tornado dissolve into thin air sprinting towards the sea as fast as possible. But Just as their feet's touched the sea the sound waves hit them.
It was like a his eardrums were being smashed to bits. He screamed and trashed at the edge of the Water trying to keep the sound out but all his efforts ended in futility and just when he thought his head would burst open from the pain the sounds stopped and all he could hear was a sharp ringing in his ears.
He felt his body hit the floor on the sea edge rigid and unable to move. Using the last strength he had he managed to turn his head and saw Regina lay lifeless a few feet away from him her body covered in blood.
Whatever every had hit him had gotten her too and unable to think about anything they had not been able to stop the bullets constantly raining on them.
The grief hit him like arrows through his heart and unable to find the strength to keep his eyes open anymore he lets them close and his last thoughts as the pain and silence enveloped him were his joy that Jake and lily had escaped meeting the same fate.
