Chapter 4 - survivors

Miles away from the slaughter house the beach had become, it was a beautiful morning on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. A man that seem to be in his early forties can be seen setting up a break fast table outside. The sun had just risen enclosing the whole environment with sunlight and the whole surrounding atmosphere seem to hum with energy the ground itself giving off a continuous golden Glow as if charged with high volts of electricity.

The man suddenly stops what he was doing looks at the bungalow behind him and smiles shaking from side to side in disbelief.

"So you all are actually going to let me set up the table my self and jump out once I'm done to start eating", he said trying his best to sound angry but failing woefully.

The house and it's surrounding appeared quiet and motionless for a split second and then suddenly a little girl of about seven years old with blonde hair came running out from the side of the barn shouting and laughing at the same time

"Noah started it, I told them I would tell on them but they wouldn't listen to me. Luke held on to me and wouldn't let me go"

"shut it you snitch, I would rather kiss a frog than hold on to you Ava" a boy slightly bigger than she was suddenly appeared too looking very much as guilty as a culprit could be.

"What's up old man" a voice came from behind him

He turn to see three others a girls and two boys coming out from the side of the forest where they had been hiding behind the huge trees grinning like fools as their plan was already a huge success since most of the work had already been done.

The girl Mia was a curly red head was just the same height as the other two boys Max and Noah who from the look of things where identical twins. The man cocked his head to the left and frowned as he noticed the boys had nothing on but their shorts and immediately they burst out laughing smacked hands in the air and produced the shirts they had hidden in their shorts putting it on laughing as loud as they could. It was clear they hid it just to get that exact reaction from him and the man grits his teeth in frustration for falling for what was now clear as a reoccurring prank of theirs.

They all join him in setting up the table and in a few minutes were done.

"where's lily and Jake" the man asks the rest of the children who were already seated and about to start devouring the feast set before them.

"Who knows lily probably finally demanded to go to the moon this time and Jake her forever loyal thickheaded brother flew her there" Max said and the whole table went up again in laughter.

"I heard that and if you're not blind you'll see that Jake heard it too" a little voice chirped in from on top of the house.

They all looked up the roof of the bungalow to see a little girl of five sitting on a boy's lap looking smug and obviously happy that they had caught them all by surprise. The boy on the other hand had a plain look on his face. It was impossible to tell if he was angry or not.

"seriously jake, the roof?" the man said staring at them in shock and something close to confusion in his eyes.

"How did you even get up there?" he said standing up from the table.

Ignoring the questions and the eyes staring at him as if he had sprouted horns at the center of his head, the boy simply picked up the little girl and jumped from the roof. He landed softly on the ground made his way to the table. After placing the grinning little girl on the chair beside him he sat down on a chair, stared straight into the man's eyes and spoke his voice calm and devoid of emotions

"I jumped."

The table was so quiet that one could have heard a pin drop. The man sat back down, poured himself a glass of wine and emptied it. When he was done, he looked back and him.

"When did it start?"

"last week" The boy replied obviously not interested in the conversation.

"last week? And you didn't care to let anyone know" the man asked again this his amazement as plain as day on his face.

"Lily knew" he said turning his face to access the food on the table.

"Lily," the man said shaking his head in disbelief. Closing his eyes he took in a deep breath and let it out.

"Well?"

"Well what?" the boy replied still staring at the various sets of food on the table

"Do you have control over it?" the man asked accessing the boy.

"Of course I do, or is there a reason I shouldn't?"

A few seconds passed before the man answered.

"No there isn't" he said his face giving off a little smile.

"Alright" he said giving his attention back to the other children let's eat

"Finally" Max said " I was beginning to seriously considering passing out" the children laughed again, and even Jake let off a little smile.

"damn, I can't wait for my powers to start coming" Luke said staring dreamily at Jake.

" maybe you won't get any" Ava put in as she was dishing out some rice. "or you'll get one that gives you a little bit of sense".

"yes and I'll finally have enough sense to throw you off a cliff" Luke retorted immediately.

"Enough no talking while eating" Mia put in.

The table went silent for a moment then pockets of conversations began to start up again as the meal went on.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Krish sat in the corridor of the house staring at the moon. His mind far a way from where his body sat. He could feel it in his heart that something was wrong. He hadn't heard from any of them since morning. Even if something had gone wrong they should have at list contacted him to ask about the kids.

There were times during the day he had wanted to leave the kids and find out if they were ok at least, but he had a feeling he couldn't shake off a feeling he was supposed to remain hidden with the kids.

There's also the fact that they had started developing their powers. That alone was enough reason to not leave them on their own. He didn't get any powers till he was eighteen and yet Jake was just nine years old and he already had such a strong connection to Mana. The fact that he could control his abilities without training was even more confusing.

He couldn't do anything decent with his powers for the first one month when he got them.

Maybe him being Alex and Reggie's son was a big contributing factor to his powers showing up this early. But even then the both of them started showing signs at about fifteen years old. Compared to them Jake's case was just unheard of.

The rest kids seem to trailing just behind him. it was clear that they would start getting their powers soon too. The environment seems to constantly hum with the tremendous Mana obviously drawn to the children. They just couldn't feel it and manipulate it yet. He felt way stronger than he normally was just been around them.

"krish" a voice spoke from behind him

He turned to see Jake standing at the door way tears streaming down his face.

He jumped up immediately and knelt down beside him taking his hand. Something was very wrong. Jake had not cried since he was five years old.

"What's wrong is lily ok", he asked his concern evident in his voice.

"They're gone" he said breaking down completely

. "they're all gone. It was a trap."

Krish froze. What does he mean they're gone

" Who are you talking about Jake" he asked carefully.

"Everyone" Jake yelled "they killed them all. Dad, Mom, Uncle buddy, Gran ma, Aunt Roslyn, Mr Fletcher all of them gone. I saw it, They poisoned them" his voice broke off his grief choking him.

Krish blinked praying he had heard wrong. He could sense the other children moving behind the door in the house. They were probably too scared to come out since Jake was crying.

"Jake, could you show me, could you show these memories to me" he asked dreading the answer. Jake used his hand to clean his eyes and nodded that he could. He lifted his hands to touch Krish on both sides on his face and the moment they made contact. The vision flooded him.

Krish sat down in the sitting room surrounded by the sleeping children. They had all cried themselves to sleep. Once again all except jake. He could feel his essence sitting on the roof looking at the stars. Since he showed him what happened he hadn't spoken a single word.

Krish couldn't blame him, even himself was utterly speechless. His friends and family, all gone and to watch it all happen without been able to do anything at this early age. He would never be the same again the pain was unbearable even for himself.

He had always know these humans were not to be trusted. It was why he had done his best to stay clear of them. If only the rest had listened to him. He already told the children what happened. There was no need to keep it from them. If they were the last of their kind alive in this world they had every right to know.

Krish had already decided what he would do. He had seen jake's memories and he had vowed that he would have his revenge. He would eliminate every single person that had a hand in the death of his family and the then, him and the children would leave. They would start a new life somewhere else. For the humans were too self destructive and corrupt for them to coexist

naturally with them. Once Jake was old enough to take care of the rest of them himself. He would leave and rain hell on these humans and they would wish they had take a different path. They had won the battle, but the war was far from over. The War had just began.
