After listening to Senichi's explanation, Kogoro Mouri took out a cigarette, lit it, and held it in his mouth, taking a couple of puffs before shaking it repeatedly on the floor.
"Wow, there's really a change!"
Ran's shout instantly drew everyone's attention to the cigarette in Kogoro Mouri's hand.
The smoke that was originally steadily and rising slowly now suddenly accelerated, swirling irregularly in all directions.
"You really know everything, don't you kid? You understand this kind of trick too?" Kogoro Mouri complained.
"I just know a little bit, it's just basic knowledge." Senichi smiled modestly.
Hearing this, Conan's emotions went a bit haywire!!
When it came to the phrase "a little bit," Conan felt like no one had more authority to speak than himself.
Conan couldn't help but burst into tears at these words. You're saying you just know a little bit? But how much do you really know?
Sure, this particular trick might be simple, but every time, you claim to know a little bit, a tiny bit. Haven't you noticed that I've been losing hair from what I've been studying lately? I even learned criminal psychology.
I won't believe you, darn it!! You're just pretending to be an innocent school kid, who is always saying, "Oh, I haven't really learned anything," but then end up being in the top three, in every exam!
Of course, at this moment, nobody cared about Conan's feelings. They all got down on the floor, one by one, and started searching carefully.
In no time, they finished inspecting the floor and found a slightly protruding wooden board near the door.
There was a small groove near the edge of the wall, designed to be opened by hand.
After opening the door, they found a grid of five rows and seven columns of alphabetical buttons, apparently in the Cyrillic(Russian) alphabet.
"Well, it looks like there's a password." Senichi looked at Sergei Ovchinnikov and said, "Looks like we'll need your help to input the password."
"Memories! It must be memories in Russian!" Even before Senichi could say anything, Kogoro Mouri was the first to speak up, asserting without hesitation.
But after Sergei Ovchinnikov tried, it was wrong.
Afterwards, everyone else also came up with ideas, but naturally, all the results were wrong.
"The Last Wizard of the Century."
Just as everyone was racking their brains, Senichi slowly uttered this word, "Mr. Ovchinnikov, try this one!"
Kogoro Mouri rubbed his chin and pondered, "I feel like I've heard this somewhere before."
"It was in Kaito Kid's teaser letter, Dad, your memory is really bad," Ran reminded Mouri Kogoro with an angry look.
With anticipation, everyone watched as Sergei Ovchinnikov entered the password, and instead of the familiar error sound, the basement door opened!
"It actually opened, this is too much of a coincidence! How did you think this, Officer Senichi?"
Kogoro Mouri couldn't quite figure it out. Why would Mr. Kiichi Kousaka, the great-grandfather of Miss Natsumi, choose a password that coincided with the contents of Kaito Kid's teaser letter?
Hearing Kogoro Mouri's question, Senichi just smiled and said, "I'll tell you the answer after we get the other egg."
With that, Senichi took the lead and headed downstairs.
"Tch, pretending to be mysterious!" Kogoro Mouri muttered unhappily and followed along.
The rest of the journey went smoothly. After finding the mural, they used a flashlight to shine on it, revealing a more hidden basement.
Once inside, they discovered that compared to the floor above, this place had clear architectural traces and was well-built.
The entire room had a shape reminiscent of an egg, with a coffin placed on a platform in the center.
After lighting the candles on both sides of the platform, the underground environment was illuminated by the candlelight. After a quick survey, they didn't find anything noteworthy and turned their attention to the coffin.
"Although this coffin has a Western-style design, the material is wood."
Kogoro Mouri bent down, picked up the lock on the coffin, and examined it. "This lock is really big."
"Miss Natsumi, that key." Conan on the side reminded her.
"Oh, right, this lock is obviously about the same size as that key!" Natsumi Kousaka immediately took out the key, stepped forward, and inserted it into the lock to try and open it.
After gently turning it, the large lock unexpectedly opened without any issues.
"It really is this key." After Natsumi Kousaka opened the coffin, she took a step back and handed the position over to Kogoro Mouri.
"Is it okay to open it? Miss Natsumi." Kogoro Mouri walked up to the coffin, his expression solemn as he inquired.
After all, this was the coffin of someone's great-grand ancestor, so they had to be careful and considerate.
"It's fine." Natsumi Kousaka held the key in her hand, stared at the coffin, and nodded.
With permission granted, Kogoro Mouri and Shiratori proceeded to open the coffin together. The scene inside met their eyes.
Inside the coffin lay a skeleton, only bones remaining. And in the hand of the remains was a red egg, instantly capturing everyone's attention.
"Miss Natsumi, is this body in here your great-grandfather's?" Kogoro Mouri looked at the bones and asked.
"No, I think it's probably my great-grandmother's." Natsumi Kousaka thought for a moment and replied, "Actually, only my great-grandfather is the one buried in the Yokosuka cemetery. I used to find that really strange.
I've also thought that maybe because of her identity as a Russian, she couldn't be buried in the tombs of her ancestors."
On the side, Sergei Ovchinnikov looked at the red egg and couldn't help but speak up, "Miss Natsumi, although it might not be appropriate to say this now, could I take a look at that egg?"
"Yes" Natsumi Kousaka nodded, then walked up to the coffin, gently picked up the red egg from the embrace of the skeleton, and handed it to Sergei Ovchinnikov.
After a brief thank you, Sergei Ovchinnikov carefully took the egg and examined it, only to find a small hole at the bottom of the egg.
Upon opening it, the expected gemstone didn't appear; there was nothing inside.
"How is this possible? It's empty?" Sergei Ovchinnikov said in disbelief.
"It seems to be a Matryoshka-style design," Senichi chuckled, "Since the two eggs are on the same blueprint and they're of different sizes, perhaps combining these two eggs is what forms the real 'Memories Egg'."
"The real... Memories Egg?"
Everyone looked at each other, and Kogoro Mouri even clenched his fist and slapped his other palm, said unwilling. "Darn it, if only I had borrowed that egg from President Suzuki earlier."
"I have that egg." Senichi smiled, "Thinking that we might need that egg, I borrowed it before leaving, just in case."
