Chapter 56 - Allies or Threat? (4)

As Enzo's low-grade butterflies ventured deeper into the building, he couldn't shake the growing sense of dread that had settled within him. The further they delved into the dark, foreboding corridors, the heavier the atmosphere became. It was as if the very walls of the building were monsters.

His butterflies fluttered silently, their tiny presence offering a tiny bit of reassurance in the oppressive darkness. Yet, with each 'step' they took, Enzo couldn't shake the feeling that something lurked in the shadows, just beyond his perception.

And what was worse was that he still couldn't see anyone from the group he was following earlier. Although he didn't see their faces, he still memorized enough to recognize them immediately.

Yet there was still no one.

'Is there a secret passage in the building? I almost looked over all the ground floor, and I doubt they are above.' Still, just in case, Enzo looked at the other floors and the rooms, but there was still no one. No human, no monster, no nothing.

Doubt gnawed at him. "What the hell is going on?" he muttered to himself, his thoughts racing. He couldn't fathom how an entire group of people had seemingly vanished without a trace. It defied logic, and the growing darkness of the building's interior only added to the mystery.

As he looked at the people around him, he could see a few of them smiling while some others were still being treated because of their severe injuries. 'I guess I can still land a hand.'

As he walked up to the wounded, a lot of people stared at him. It was clear what they were thinking, but Enzo couldn't care less, right now. Although it annoyed him a great deal, he needed to gain a little bit of their trust to know what was happening here.

Otherwise, why would they capture monsters? It didn't make any sense, especially since they were very hostile to humans.

"E-excuse me, c-can I help you t-treat their wounds?" Enzo asked a man in his early thirties who was standing near a very pale woman. At best, she had only a week to live before dying of her injuries.

"What can you even do?" The man chuckled, but Enzo's face was still serious, so he quickly changed his tone of voice. "Listen, we may be an organized group, but we don't have any healer or the sort, so it's already hard as it is, so just go away."

Enzo's eyes pleaded with the man as he replied, "B-but I'm sure I can h-help you guys. You let m-me stay here, it's t-the least I-I can do."

The man hesitated for a moment, glancing at the injured woman beside him. Her condition was clearly critical, and every passing moment was crucial. Finally, he sighed and nodded. "Fine, if you think you can help, then do what you can. We don't have much choices anyway."

Enzo nodded before looking at the woman. Although she was very injured, it was a piece of cake for his high-grade healing butterflies. 'I guess I should take some time, otherwise, they will suspect something. After all, I can heal her in just a few seconds, but it would be too easy if I do so.' He smirked in his mind as he called forth his healing butterflies.

"Hey, what are you doing?" The man shouted when he saw the arm-size butterfly approach the woman. His shout attracted other people's attention as well.

Enzo didn't answer and asked his butterfly to heal the woman.

A soft, green light began to envelop the injured woman as the healing process initiated by Enzo's butterfly continued. The room was bathed in this ethereal glow, casting a tranquil and hopeful atmosphere amid the previous tension and uncertainty.

The people gathered around watched in awe and amazement as the green light surrounded the woman's body, gradually intensifying in brightness. The expressions on their faces shifted from skepticism to wonder as they witnessed her wounds slowly healing before their eyes.

The woman's strained breathing began to steady, and the lines of pain on her face relaxed. It was as if the light itself held a soothing quality, alleviating her suffering and knitting together her damaged flesh.

Enzo maintained his focus, his brow furrowing with concentration as he guided the healing process. It was essential that he didn't rush it, to make it appear as natural as possible since he wasn't the one doing the work anyway, and his butterfly could continue for hours anyway. But still, it was important to appear as weak as possible.

As minutes passed, the transformation became increasingly apparent. The woman's pallor gave way to a healthier complexion, and the ghastly wounds on her body closed up, leaving behind only faint scars as evidence of her injuries.

And soon enough, even those scars completely disappeared, leaving a brand-new skin.

The once-skeptical onlookers were now completely captivated by the spectacle before them. They exchanged glances filled with astonishment and gratitude, recognizing that Enzo's abilities were no ordinary feat.

The man who had initially questioned Enzo couldn't help but smile, his skepticism completely vanquished. "I... I don't know how to thank you," he stuttered in awe, his voice filled with genuine appreciation. "You've saved her life."

Enzo, still maintaining the healing process as he wasn't finished yet nodded with a faint smile of his own. "I'm j-just glad I could h-help. We're all s-survivors in this w-world, we should l-look out for each o-other."

The atmosphere in the room had shifted from doubt and apprehension to one of unity and hope. Enzo's unique abilities not only saved a life but also earned him the trust and gratitude of the survivors in the building.

As the healing process neared its completion, Enzo's butterfly emitted a final, brilliant burst of green light, signifying the woman's recovery. The room erupted into applause, a chorus of cheers and thanks filling the air.

"Even though she's fully healed, she will still need to rest for a while."

The man whom he spoke with earlier nodded before showing him to the other patients. And quickly, Enzo started to heal all the injured in the group.
