However, right when she was about to soar into the sky again to have a better look at the battlefield, a terrible roar descended upon the world. It was as if Heaven itself had unleashed its wrath.
The sky darkened in an instant, and an eerie silence blanketed the once-raging battlefield. The Monarch of Butterflies felt a shiver run down her spine, an instinctual feeling that something unimaginable was about to transpire.
As she gazed upwards, her heart pounded in her chest. The clouds twisted and churned, forming a colossal vortex of darkness. It was a maw that seemed to devour the very essence of light. Within its depths, she could see glimpses of something... something beyond comprehension.
"What is it doing here? This world isn't dying yet!" Enzo could hear the first monarch mutter those words angrily.
As Enzo continued looking at the sky, he could only curse at his incomprehension of the situation. While he could feel in every bone of his body that the being that was about to come defied the laws of the world and that the Monarch of Butterflies seemed more scared than anything, he didn't know what this existence was, nor what it could do.
And only being able to watch was sickening him more and more.
Sure he wouldn't be able to do anything, but still...
Still...
However, after some time passed, nothing came down, and the face of the first monarch loosened a little.
But just when she was about to say something, a hand came down from the maw, followed by a body that just couldn't be described as one.
It was... to put it simply, indescribable. It was as if the creator had run out of time, or rather, had just given up on creating something comprehensible.
It was an existence of broken wings, rotten flesh, and blurred colors. An existence that didn't fit in this world, a paradox in itself. No flesh was in its right place. No part of it made sense.
It was... disgusting.
...And terrifying.
Enzo's eyes widened as he tried to comprehend what he was seeing. It was like looking at a jumbled painting, a chaotic collage of forms and shapes that made no sense. The being that emerged from the vortex seemed to exist and not exist simultaneously.
The Monarch of Butterflies took a step back, her expression a mixture of horror and disbelief. She had faced countless foes and wielded incredible power, but this being before she defied all reason and understanding. It was as if the very fabric of reality had been torn asunder to give birth to this abomination.
As for Enzo... he started gasping for air. The abomination descended slowly but with every meter it was crossing, it became harder and harder to even exist.
As he looked around him, he could see the soldiers of both camps. However, what he saw next horrified him.
One by one, they started exploding, their body convulsing before releasing everything inside of it.
It was the worst thing Enzo had ever seen in his whole life.
'Am I going to end up like them?' He thoughts with fear. 'No it can't be, right? I'm not part of this world. I'm just watching a film. Yeah, that's right. Everything that I'm witnessing is just the remnant of the past. Yes, nothing else...'
Even though convincing himself worked, he was still shaking in fear.
And amidst all of this chaos, the Monarch of Butterflies stood there, alone. She didn't get the same fate as the others, but it was probably for the worst. After all, she had to face the whole pressure of the abomination by herself.
Despite the odds, the Monarch of Butterflies stood her ground. However, her every instinct urged her to flee, to escape the presence of this twisted being that defied all logic and comprehension. But she was a Monarch, a ruler, a protector of her realm. She couldn't let fear dictate her actions. Her wings trembled, her grip on her blade tightening as she prepared herself for the confrontation.
The abomination descended further, its broken form seemingly unaffected by the havoc it was causing. The air itself seemed to distort around it, and reality itself strained against its presence. Its gaze fixed upon the Monarch, and a voice that sounded like a thousand screams woven into one echoed in her mind.
"You... defy order... limit... possibility... Monarch..."
The Monarch's voice trembled, but she spoke with a resolve that emanated from the very core of her being. "I am the Monarch of Butterflies, protector of this realm. I stand against Chaos and Darkness, no matter the form they take."
The abomination emitted a sound that was a blend of mockery and agony. Its form twitched and contorted as if it struggled to maintain its existence within the rules of reality. Its eyes, if they could be called that, radiated an unsettling mixture of curiosity and malevolence.
"Monarch... protector... futile... you cannot comprehend..."
With a distorted motion, the abomination lunged at the Monarch. However, before the latter could even move, the abomination of Chaos and Darkness - From what the first Monarch had called it - suddenly stopped.
Suddenly, out of thin air, heavy chains appeared. They wrapped around the abomination, each link pulsating with a strange energy. The creature writhed and twisted, its form distorting as it struggled against the chains that held it captive.
The Monarch of Butterflies, still shaken by the presence of the abomination, watched with a mixture of astonishment and caution. She didn't know who or what had intervened, but she had an idea. After all, the Abomination of Chaos and Darkness couldn't appear here yet.
Enzo, too, was taken aback. He had seen the abomination's unsettling existence, felt the terror it brought, and now, he witnessed these chains that seemingly emerged out of nowhere to restrain it. It was clear that there were forces at play in this realm that he was only beginning to fathom.
As the abomination continued to struggle, its broken form emitted sounds that were a blend of rage and agony.
And just like this, the form of the abomination started disappearing. Albeit slowly, it was clear that it was withdrawing from this place.
"Monarch... Butterflies... come... kill... future"
With a last deep and creepy voice, the abomination said with its distorted mouth before disappearing.
The storm in the sky slowly disappeared as well, the clouds merging back to their old forms and colors.
And just like that, Enzo found himself back into nothingness. He was once again surrounded by darkness, exactly like how he had found himself when he first swallowed the 'Memory of the Beginning'.
