Chapter 10 - I know there's more

"You should probably call your dad and let him know about the vision, especially since your realm has been the only one we know for sure of that has received and kind threats as of yet," I said and was answered only by a nod or his head as Ares continued to stare at me. I waited a few long moments, but he still didn't make a move to follow my suggestion or say anything else to me. He just stood there and looked at me with a brooding look on his face, as if expecting me to say something else. So I looked at him questioningly and asked, "What?"

"I know you purposely left out some details of your vision. I figured that you was doing it to protect your dad, so, I'm waiting to see if you will divulge them to me or are you trying to protect more then just your father? If this is the case here, I'll tell you right now, keeping things from me won't protect me. It will only succeed in making me worry more. So I suggest that you tell me about it yourself or else I am going to have to find another way of figuring it out and you may not like the other way I choose to use. One way or another, Serenity, I will figure out exactly what you're trying to hide."

At that, I gasped and looked around nervously to see if we were alone, "I can't tell you right now. Wait until we are out of earshot of anyone under my father's rule. Then, I will tell you everything," I promised quietly. Even though I didn't really want to tell him that the man had threatened to kidnap me by name. He nodded in agreement just as the nurse came in to unhook the machines that was previously monitoring me and the IV.

After everything was unhooked and the paperwork for my discharge was taken care of, I went to stand up from my bed and walk out of the hospital wing. Only to find myself being carried, princess style, in the strong and capable arms of my seemingly doting mate.

"What do you think you are you doing, Ares? Put me down Right now! I am not a helpless damsel in destress. I can walk on my own," I objected and squirmed in his arms trying to get him to put me down.

"No, you are definitely not a damsel. That's for sure. Nor do I think you are helpless. But, the doctor did say that you should rest or you could loose the use of your legs. I highly doubt that you would like it if that happened. Besides, as your loving mate, I decided that since I have now been scared half to death twice by you, I will carry you to your room. So, no, I won't put you down and let you walk. Now stop squirming before you wake up my little friend. When you're fully healed we can both enjoy me making you squirm against more then just my chest," he said huskily as his eyes glowed with his lust.

I stilled and hid my face in his chest to hide the blush that was surely covering my face by now, letting myself inhale his intoxicating scent to calm my racing heart. He smelled of Cedar and bonfires, two of my favorite smells, and I found it absolutely heavenly. I risked a peak up at Ares and noticed he was smirking. So, I playfully hit his chest and asked, "What?"

"Nothing,"he replied with a chuckle, "but has anyone ever told you, your blush is cute?"

I replied with a shake of the head, "No," and my blush deepened.

"How about the fact that you smell just like lilacs and roses?"

I giggled at that part and nodded. "Yes, my hand-maiden, Rachel, tells me all the time that I smell like that. She also says that I am just like my mother every chance that she gets."

"Well then, your mother must be an amazing woman."

"Was," I tried to correct him.

"Excuse me?" he asked confused by my correction.

"I said was. My mother died when I turned six. My father says it had happened after I had my first vision and he didn't listen to me. He said he thought that it must have been a bad dream brought on by me overhearing about the threats the rogue wolves sent to him."

"I'm sorry," Ares said as he looked away from me.

"It's ok. At first I couldn't feel the loss but even now when I can feel the grief of her not being here, I know she still watches over me and I know she would be proud of the woman I grew up to be," I said and then giggled, "I am also almost positive that she would be pleased with the man that I turned out to be mated to."

"Why do you think that?" he asked.

"Because, you are strong, handsome, intelligent, and determined. As well as, protective and caring. It's all of the traits that she used to say made her fall in love with my dad," I replied.

With that, he carried me the rest of the way to my bedroom in a comfortable silence as we both got lost in our own thoughts. Once there, he placed me gentally on my bed then turned to leave the room.

"Please stay, I really don't want to be alone right now. My emotions are all over the place, right now, and it's all strange and frightening to me," I whispered in a weak, soft, and desperate voice.

He sat down quietly on the edge of my bed for a few agonizing moments before sighing and saying, "I don't know what I am going to do, Serenity. What I do know, however, is that when you called me love it made me happy and made me feel like there is nothing to worry about. Despite everything else that is going on right now."

"Look, Ares, we don't have to know what to do just yet. After all, I am sure all of this is new to you as well. All I know for sure is, we need to gather everyone, from all of the realms, and tell them what I saw in my vision. Hopefully, that way, we can prevent another Great War before it can even start."
