"So, how is it going with Nicki today?" The Alpha threw a question at Nicki's guides the moment he was settled down on his throne. And then there came stuttering from Hanna and Astrid, who gave each other questionable stares at what to give him as answers to the question he asked.
"Are any of you going to say something?" Seconds had passed by and no response came from either Hanna or Astrid and the Alpha was surprised by it. They usually respond to him immediately after he drops a question.
Hanna and Astrid used their eyes as a means of communication and it wasn't surprising that they understood each other. Hanna wanted to make up a lie however Astrid wasn't cool with it and gave her a nudge not to do it.
Lying to the Alpha was a very serious crime and considering the fact it would be about Nicki only made it worse for them. Won't he have their heads chopped off when he learns they lied to him about her? Especially now they know he has a thing for her?
Especially now Astrid knows he might have a thing for her to be more precise since she was still the only one who claims the Alpha likes Nicki. Hanna kind of believed it but her doubt was bigger than the belief.
"What is going on with you two?" The Alpha suspected Nicki's guides had something to say to him but didn't want to or maybe don't know how to. The nudge Astrid gave Hanna seemed highly suspicious to him.
"Well, aren't you going to say something?" Astrid was glad they had the mind link and she used it to communicate with Hanna. At least this way the Alpha won't be able to hear them even if he used his super hearing ability.
"What do you want me to say? I can't let him know Nicki spent the night with Ariana yesterday, while I was doing something else and you who had the chance to keep your eyes on her slept off with no worries like a newborn baby!" Hanna made known to Astrid with sarcasm.
"Well, I am not scared to accept the punishment the Alpha has in store for us if you just tell him we couldn't keep up with the favor he asked from us. I don't know why you are too scared to get punished. It's not like he's going to give us the Kraken as punishment, we won't be lying to him" Astrid figured out the reason Hanna didn't want to let the Alpha know what happened with Nicki was that she was scared of punishment.
But she wasn't supposed to be scared of punishment, even if they were to be given one, it wouldn't happen to be the Kraken.
The Kraken was known as one of the most extremely cruel punishments that could ever be given to anyone, although it has never been given to a student or a member of this pack because it was strictly reserved for a captured enemy only.
"I'm not scared of getting punished, you dumbass, the Alpha can't just punish us over something mere like this. If he didn't punish Nicki for defying him in the hall yesterday, why would he then punish us? I'm just trying to save our reputation, at least if I lie to him, we would be safe and I don't think Nicki is someone to tell us on if he asks her how we are guiding her"
Hanna pointed out and stole a glance at the Alpha to know if he was still watching them. He hasn't shouted or asked them anything again and has been watching them in silence which was odd.
However, she was wrong, the Alpha wasn't just watching them but had been closely observing what they were doing, and their sneaky moves with each other. And it didn't take him long to figure out they had been using the mind link to secretly communicate with each other for moments now while leaving his questions unattended like a fool.
"Why are you two using the mind link to communicate with each other? And what have you been talking about without giving me an answer to the simple question I asked?" The little smile that appeared to be on his face this morning disappeared, although everyone here could strongly testify with their chest that their Alpha rarely ever has a smile on his face.
"Oh my God, we are so f**ked now. What do we do, Hanna?" Astrid was starting to freak out and it also made Hanna want to freak out, but instead, she was scared and stayed calm instead. "We should just tell him we couldn't keep up with the favor and get this over with than lie to him. You better come up with something fast and reasonable or I will be forced to tell him what happened myself"
Astrid said threateningly, even if Hanna was to lie. It better be something reasonable.
"Uhm Alpha, it's…just..that…we…" Hanna twitched uncontrollably, now she knows why it was easier to talk to the Alpha with their heads bowed than when he allows them up to see his face. Because it was scary as hell, especially when he was mad. The handsomeness of his face wasn't even enough to comfort it.
"Save it, go get Nicki in here" The Alpha gave out an unexpected order that made Hanna and Astrid almost their pants.
"What?!" They both yelled their heads out.
"Not you guys, you go get her" The Alpha pointed at one of the males that were in here at the doorpost with them and he bowed, immediately going out to carry out the Alpha's order.
"F**k, now you have seen what you have done. I don't want to put this on you but I think this is all your fault. If you had just let me tell him what happened, none of this would be happening now. He knew better not to send any of us to get her because we would have told her what to say when we go to get her. Now, we will be doomed the moment your precious Nicki forgets to stick on our side and rats us out, Hanna!"
Astrid was irked and put all the blame on Hanna forgetting none of this would have happened if she hadn't acted selfishly like she did last night and just had her eyes on Nicki the whole time.
