Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

For an Awoken to appear in the middle of the capital...To call it an emergency would be taking it lightly. It was a disastrous event that quickly woke up those who were safe and comfy in their bed thinking nothing could touch them in a city full of Anialas. It enraged and terrified those who lived inside the walls of humanity's largest city at the cost of their freedom. What was the point of giving so much to the scientists and Anialas, if there were no guarantees toward the common peoples' safety? What was the point of their sacrifices and admiration?

Did they even care that the life of an Aniala child was lost due to their incompetence and neglect? In the middle of these swirling questions and cries, the family who lost their child merely kept their mouths shut. No matter who asked this family with two Anialas why they let such a thing happen to their youngest, they merely pursed their lips and wore expressions of stone. '-and so they say.' The bundle of thick cotton blankets and slightly messy midnight black hair no longer moved or hiccupped after its words. It didn't say much after the deafening silence from the bundle of blankets, however, it lightly fixes the blanket so it would not drag along the wet ground. The bundle of blankets sat upon a surprisingly clean jelly creature that didn't move even as the one on top its clear luminescent body shivered and sobbed.

The cave they resided in was damp and dark, but it was large. In a corner, a long damp corridor which was the only exit and entrance was flooded leading one to nothing but another type of frightening abyss. However, like the glowing creature allowing her to rest, many other luminescent creatures ventured into the cave with no fear with their colorful set of gills. Their strange curious eyes settled on the new addition to this once forbidden cave. So much so that the water reflected their slimy or scaley bodies like the starry night sky making it rather...beautiful in its own way. Watching the bundle of cloth curl up tighter still refusing the abundant delicacies offered to her.

On a seashell, was a plate of cleaned and peeled shrimp and clams. The large mass of darkness continued to wait for the bundle to move and eat. However, when it did not receive a reply once again it could only slide away reluctantly back into the waters. The ripples as it seemingly left the cave startled the other creatures to hurriedly retreat leaving only the tiniest bit of light from their backs and side. As if mimicking the large being's actions, only their tiny eyes poke out from the crack of the walls. Two eyes that seemed to carry no single color like white opals seemingly mimicking the light of the sun upon the ocean waters quietly like always rest upon the bundle on top of the jelly creature.

The glowing light, like that of an overwhelming mass of spiritual energy, was flooding from that tiny bundle. Shows the clear distress the owner was experiencing that those not in tune with spiritual energy would usually not be able to see was spilling like glistening blue blood overflowing that tiny bundle and bed. It dripped like thick blood onto the cave dyeing it such a beautiful array of sky blue it was as if one were sitting within the sky instead of deep beneath the sea. The eyes naturally follow the leaking spiritual energy cautiously, only swinging away to stare deeply at the creatures that dared to try and venture closer to the bundle. Intimidating those smaller creatures who knew they were no match to hurriedly scramble away out of fear.

The mass of darkness only froze when an unnatural current, seemingly attracted by the alluring light in the far cave entrance one can barely see through wandered much too close. Those opal eyes wander over to the silent and unmoving bundle of blankets before disturbingly disappearing this time for certain into the abyss. "....." Bright brown eyes finally peek out from the blankets to study their surroundings with vigilance. Farrah sniffled and rubs her puffy eyes, her face covered in dried blood, however, when she ran her hand over the place she was sure she had been injured she was confused when she found nothing. Her tiny hand quietly trailed down to her leg where she still clearly recalls the burning sensation as the awoken clawed apart her flesh to the bone. Lips trembling, Farrah did her best to not break down and cry for her older brother instinctively.

She was scared! Where did this monster take her? Why did it take her? And why did it save her? Did it want to keep her as a snack? Although her teachers said that Awoken were about as intelligent as a beast, they also said that its best to not underestimate such ancient creatures whose tenacity was more frightening than any living being on earth.

Not knowing the awoken's plans for her, Farrah was even more afraid of the future than being told the awoken just wanted to eat her. But what scared her more than her future under its care? This Awoken knew how to speak to her and mimic human speech. At least, biting her lips Farrah sat up cautiously with a shaky form, it repeated everything it heard about the capital to her without stuttering. At first, she was frightened to death and could only curl up without care if day or night passed outside unwilling to lift her head. However, on a particularly cold time during her captivity, she was brought this creature and settled on top of it with a blanket.

Although she was petrified the entire time it tuck her in as if putting a child into bed she didn't dare assume the awoken was caring for her. Only suspicious why a monster like this was mimicking human actions. As if knowing she was thinking of it, the particularly sensitive child flinches and hurriedly buried herself back into the blanket with her eyes peeking out a small slit of the covers at the only exit. As expected, a large shadow emerges from the water splashing some from its lumbering body she couldn't clearly make out due to the darkness surrounding them. As if not noticing her wary stare, the awoken shook its body to get as much water off itself as possible making her flinch again. It froze suddenly due to her reaction before as slowly and quietly as possible making its way towards the spot it usually occupied in the far corner opposite of her own.

Its tail swishing past the jelly bed in a jerky motion, she heard a faint groan as if the awoken was in pain as it slumps to the hard floor. Its head faces the entrance of the cave not allowing its opal eyes to fall on Farrah and startle her into retreating into her blanket. It didn't acknowledge her stare, reminding Farrah in a rare moment of clarity of what people would do when trying to earn the trust of a scared animal. Despite the fear in her heart, the girl couldn't help finding it a little funny and insulting to be treated as such. But this moment doesn't last long as the second it merely glances in her general direction Farrah cowers back with a shiver resembling a hermit retreating into its shell. Pretending to not notice the little human who retreated back into its spot, the creature held back a grunt lacing down at its side where small traces of silver blood was slowly seeping out of them.

Lowering its head, the creature stuck out a long pink tongue licking the wound as quietly as possible to not attract the little one's attention, coating the injury in saliva. With a glimmer of light very similar to when Farrah passed out but much dimmer, the wound closes up sealing the hole that leaked silver blood. Glancing at the bundle who although no longer crying but was still curled up in an insecure position. The shadow made no move to comfort her and firmly stared at the exit of the cave diligently.

"*BOOM!" Jumping from her makeshift bed Farrah looks around her in a daze, her heart racing due to the sudden explosion. "Ugh!" Seconds after the explosion as if being hit by an invisible wind Farrah who was still weak and just waking up from a fretful sleep couldn't grab onto anything before being flung from the jellyfish. The wave of terrifying spiritual energy slams into her frail body sending the child tumbling onto the hard bumpy cave floors. Gasping from the pain of being tossed so violently without time to prepare, Farrah was dizzy and in pain. What is that? What's happening?!

Without thinking much she shakily tried to sit back up and look over to where the large awoken should have been. However, much to her dismay the Awoken who usually stayed with her before and after she fell asleep was not in its usual spot. Her stomach drops just in time for another explosion to take place outside, and despite being disorientated from the previous blast Farrah hurriedly stuck her body close to the floor. Another violent wave of spiritual energy flys past her almost sending her tumbling again but with the help of the jelly creature that was shaking just like her. She was able to stay in place.

Not caring much for the strange actions of the jellyfish she no longer tried to stand as thoughts raced within her mind for what kind of battle was taking place outside the cave. However, other than the blasts of spiritual energy and rumbling of the cave walls she could hear nothing else. Blinking rapidly and staring at the entrance rather fearful of what lay outside. Farrah could only keep a firm grasp upon the jelly creature that has yet to abandon her. Its cool smooth body was her only nightlight and comfort in the dark place. She wasn't stupid, right now she had a guess that something had encroached upon the Awoken's territory who had taken her and they were battling outside.

For what? Farrah had no idea. What she did know was that if the awoken who took her lost, her fate was most likely a bad one. Subconsciously the little girl's hands tighten upon the jellyfish creature, slightly hoping the awoken wouldn't lose. Otherwise, forget living as a captive most likely the other awoken would eat her outright without waiting. Lips trembling, Farrah could only wait with bated breath and a growing sense of anxiety the longer the silence went on. "*Plop..." The sound was subtle and the hair on the back of her neck rose as her eyes blink rapidly and the girl vigilantly searches for the spiritual essence of the familiar awoken as the water near the entrance shifted.

Farrah shivered and shrank from the entrance trembling with widened eyes and mild disbelief. This... The tainted spiritual energy leaking from the awoken slowly seeped into the cave chilling her heart. It-it lost? Farrah's eyes redden as the trembling child pushed to the extreme felt her vocal cords failing her as the malicious awoken slowly climbed into the space. She could only cower back in the far corner of the cave choking on her whimper as despair quickly began to consume her. The beast growled as the Aniala child's distress increased her fragrant scent became that much more enticing to it.

Her brown eyes held that fear as the beast climbed from the waters dwarfing the cave slowly filling with despondency as the shadow made its way closer and closer with no one coming to her rescue. The beast seemed to have no sense of urgency to devour her, and Farrah herself seemed to realize this. The buzzing within and screaming her whole body threatened to utter no longer desired to climb from her tiny body. The child still shook, however, the eyes had already dulled and given up staring up at the red-eyed monster in a numb trance. As expected...No one. No one will save me...No one...

Giving up on life Farrah's brilliantly shining spiritual energy that was rich with vitality slowly dims with her fragile hopes being dashed. Becoming a dull, dangerously close mimic of an Awoken spiritual essence. Instead of crying as the beast's claws reached for her this time and struggling Farrah accepted her early death with no fight left within. At one point, she was just being raised as Awoken food anyways what was the difference between dying now and later? As the last of her light flickers out Farrah heard an ear-piercing and furious roar before the Awoken with its claws extended towards her was sent flying into the stone walls. She stiffens with an expression full of incredulity and without herself even realizing a glimmer of hope.

Frozen without knowing how to react Farrah only had time to see enraged opal eyes and silver blood fly across her vision as the beasts continued to fight it out in the enclosed space this time it was a battle of raw strength. She heard the sounds of jaws snapping, of flesh flying, the walls around them shaking and trembling unable to house these two powerful beings. "Kya!" Farrah curls up protecting her head as above her she saw and heard the stone ceiling above her cracking and falling apart. The opal eyes flash and without hesitating it no longer paid attention to the struggling Awoken below it. Scooping up the terrified Farrah with a cold and scaley claw. The creature dove back into the water without forgetting to smack the Awoken in the face behind with his long powerful tail that wanted to leap on top of them with its back turned.
