Chapter 31 - I Can Do It

"That's weird!". I exclaimed, stretching my neck as I observed the view ahead while maintaining my position on the tree branch.

Judging from the distance I heard the ruffling sound come from, I had predicted anything at all to have made its way out and be within my normal range of sight by now.

Contrary or surprisingly, nothing had yet to appear, yet I could still hear the sound like it was close by.

"What is going on!".

Have I misjudged the situation? Is the rustling sound nothing but an illusion made up by my mind after getting too concerned with the changes in my body?

Whatever worries I had were soon to be put to rest as I picked up another rustling and barely seconds later, I spotted a vague figure making its appearance from within the compacted trees.

I was at ease because it seemed like I had not mistaken the sound I heard, nor was I daydreaming about things.

So, What beast will I be facing today?

I waited for the beast to come closer to the limelight where I could get a clear view of it, and its figure would not be blocked off by any of the surrounding tree branches.

'I can see it!'. I thought, strangely enthusiastic about the situation.

I swear it's not me. No way in hell would I be happy to be in this current situation, but it appears that is the case now.

For strange reasons, I am not frightened nor with an unstable mind that constantly questions and tries to make sense of the situation.

I am cool, calm and collected, ready to face the beast.

I wondered if this was one of the effects that came with awakening my Oduduwa bloodline.

Doesn't matter if it is or isn't. What does is that I am in the best of shape like never before, and I feel this overly confidence that I can take on literally anything that appears now.

I might feel that way doesn't mean I am going to act that way.

Whatever I do, I most certainly cannot let myself get overly carried away. I need to remember at all times that this is not a joke or a drill.

Strangely, I am finding it hard to cope with the train of thought I just expressed.

Deformed beasts, supernatural-like abilities?! It all still feels so surreal and unreal, like I am in a play or an imaginary fantasy world.

I know it's real. My body feels it from the pain I accumulated the first time, and my brain has registered the effect and how real it is.

But my mind? That childish mind of mine tells me otherwise.

It refuses to accept and keeps on dwelling on the thoughts of all this being a possible dream, one that I will wake up from at any time!

Still, I refused to believe what my mind was projecting to my brain. I know what I am in for, and how I can't make the mistake of confusing reality with fantasy.

A single mistake can cost me my life. Certainly, I can't allow that.

It walked on eight legs, two grasping pincers pointing beyond its head, a tail stretched out from its butt and lengthened as it curved midway to hover above its body.

At the tip of its tail is a stinger, a dangerously looking stinger.

'A scorpion!!'. I instantly exclaimed upon sight.

No doubt I won't recognize a scorpion when I see one. Its body figure is just something distinctive, personifying its name and what it stands for.

The only difference between the scorpion I know and this scorpion I am seeing is its height and weight difference.

This one stands equal to a fully grown tiger with a body mass close to a sedan-type car.

Yeah, a sedan car model is a definite description for its body size and height!

'Damn!'.

I don't know if I should be grateful that I get to come across a creature I am familiar with, or if I should wail about the massive size difference of the creature.

'Now, what should I do about this?'.

I have to admit, those two pincers of it look deadly and especially dangerous to go near it.

Thinking of what to do, my best bet is to catch it unaware. In other words, I only get one chance at giving myself the upper hand.

'Great, that's what I will do'.

Seeing its body structure and the way it moves, I had already thought up an idea of how to take it down.

I should add that this idea of mine is not one hundred per cent assured to be successful, but it's the best bet I have at the moment.

I waited for the scorpion. Calling it a scorpion sounds too simple and quite mild for one with such an enormous size.

How about?... Macro Scorpio?... Yeah, that sounds fitting for its name.

So, I waited for the macro scorpio to come closer, to be below the tree I was standing on.

Looking at things from a broader view and at the path it walk, I realize that it won't pass my tree by.

I can't miss this opportunity. I took my head up and surveyed the trees in front of me as I did the calculations and came to an assumption on what tree I had to be on to have the macro scorpio below me.

'Found it'.

West of where I stood, about a two-and-a-half-mile jump, is the tree I assumed the macro scorpio would pass under!

I heaved out a silent breath and readied my body to make the jump to the nearest branch ahead of me.

With enough preparations, I ran. Get it?...

I ran and when I got to the tip of the branch, I flexed my body as I puffed out my chest, spread my legs and flapped my arms forward.

I easily made the jump to the branch I intended to. It was so easy that I found myself wondering if I should just jump to my intended location instead of making another stop on yet another branch.

You could call it overconfidence, but I can feel it. The adrenaline flowing through my veins, telling me I can do it as long as I set my mind to it.
