Chapter 36 - Pitiful Attempt

Truth is, I should be thankful to them. The last scene my memory captured was of me about to be unconscious while my opponent the macro Scorpio was still active and ready to attack.

Now, seeing as how I am still alive and very well breathing, no longer in the forest where I had passed out, and no macro Scorpio ready to take away my life.

I can already assume pretty much what happened from all that.

"Uhuh!!". I yelped out, silently.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I saw a green-skinned hand pointed at me.

That was when I noticed that all four of them were now looking at me.

They appear to have finished their conversation and have now decided to divert their attention back to me.

The female green-skinned creature pointed her index finger at me. No. She pointed it at my forehead, then she looked at the other three and continued speaking.

The way she sounded, and her body language as she still had her finger toward my forehead, it was as though she was making them aware of something important.

I don't remember having anything important hanging on my forehead so I was a bit surprised to find her acting in such a manner.

Naturally, my curiosity got the best of me and I took my right palm to my forehead.

I shrugged the palm with my forehead, wiping it clean and later bringing it to my view to see if anything had stuck on my palm.

Was surprised to see my palm empty. Tried it again but got the same result.

'Then why is she pointing at my forehead?!!'.

I was baffled. Maybe I had made the mistake of confusing her pointed finger to be specifically aimed at my forehead.

Maybe that was her way of just?... Pointing at someone, making me confused when her finger is at random but aimed at me.

"Is there something on my face". I inquired, with a curious tone.

Wasn't exactly sure if they would understand what I had just said. They also spoke in a different language, so the chances of them understanding my words are slim, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Following my question, all four of them gave me that exact look that said they understood nothing of what I had just said.

I had it at the back of my mind that it might be the case, so I wasn't too surprised to see them not understanding me.

But damn! This makes things more difficult for me and them.

How in the hell are we supposed to communicate if we can't even make sense of what we are saying?...

'Right! Sign language'.

Make no mistake for I am no master of sign language, nor do I have extensive knowledge about it.

What I have and hope to apply is basic knowledge concerning sign language.

When I speak, I make a sign with my fingers and body that I feel is the closest form to describing what I am saying.

So, here goes nothing!

"My name is Raul. What I remember last was passing out while facing a giant scorpion, are you guys by chance the ones who rescued me from the scorpion after I passed out?!!".

My sign language attempt was pitiful, to say the least. I was struggling to keep up my sign language with my speech, but even I could see that I was doing an awful job at it.

My mistakes were blatantly obvious. Nonetheless, I did the best I could to convey my intentions to them.

All four creatures looked at me in silence. I presume they were contemplating what was to be done to me.

I can only begin to imagine how different their situation is.

I mean, thinking of it in a broad view like in an interracial sense, I am nothing but a foreigner to their kind.

A fourteen-year-old human, with a fair skin tone, and a normal face? That has got to come off as surprising to them who are used to looking at each other and using that as the basis for appearance.

I guess in a sense, I should be thankful I haven't had my ass thrown in jail or left to die at the deadly hands of the macro Scorpio.

The saying; don't judge a book by its cover turned out to be real after all.

The green-skinned female creature shifted to my side. She got to me and intently looked me in the eye.

She said something to me, and at that moment when the words came out of her mouth, her finger pointed at her forehead, then at mine.

From my crude interpretation of her actions, I believe she was asking a question concerning my forehead.

This had me all the more confused.

I had gone over it all and verified that nothing was stuck on my forehead, so why the hell does she keep being so insistent on my forehead?

Just what is it that has her so sure and so full of curiosity?!!

In the same way that she was with questions, so was I. I don't see any mirror around, if not I would have gotten an immediate look at myself.

Note to self; once I get back to earth, my priority should be going straight to the mirror.

Hold on a second, how do I get back to earth?...

I was working under the assumption that I would be provided a way back to earth once I made do with a beast.

Since I wasn't able to handle any, does that not mean I would have to start all over again?

What if killing a beast was not even my ticket out of here and in fact, I would be forever stuck in this world?

It kept coming in, the questions I had kept aside due to the urgency of the situation when I first got here.

Now that I was no longer in a dangerous situation and had leeway to think, a lot of thoughts flowed in, thoughts with no answer to the burning curiosity.
