The task seemed deceptively simple: move your hand in a circle while focusing on the destination, and voila! An inter-dimensional portal should appear. How hard could it be, right? Well, it turned out to be more challenging than I had ever anticipated.
"It's been two weeks, and still no progress, I see," remarked the bald, dark-skinned man observing my pathetic attempts at opening the portal. He sported a gray shirt and brown pants.
"Shut up, Mordude! The Ancient One said it's harder for me because of my powers, okay?" Here I was, in a secluded training quarter, clad in an apprentice robe, desperately trying to clear my mind and envision the peak of Mt. Everest while swirling my hand in a circular motion.
The reason I struggled with creating the inter-dimensional portal was simple: as the Ancient One put it, 'You lack imagination.' And damn it, she was right.
My mind was already fixated on abstract concepts, a quality that proved beneficial when manipulating the mirror dimension.
Its ever-changing, asymmetrical nature fascinated me. Consequently, whenever I attempted to teleport to the physical realm of Mt. Everest, I invariably ended up in its mirror dimension.
It's not that I couldn't use the Sling Ring; it was the way I used it that caused the confusion.
It was all jumbled up, like a person with dyslexia mixing up their words—I mixed up dimensions. Maybe I should create a scientific name for it or something.
"Yes, and she also told you how to overcome it, remember?" Well, Mordo was right.
The Ancient One did provide me with a solution: meditation. But what happens when a mind accustomed to moving structures like they're Lego sets attempts to meditate? Let's just say it's not as effective.
My imagination runs wild, urging me to return to where I truly belong—the Mirror Dimension, where I can shape reality as I desire.
What I need is a push, something enlightening. And I wasn't going to find it holed up within these walls.
"Yeah, but it's not as easy as it looks. Where is she, anyway?" I mused as I removed the Sling Ring and settled myself on the ground.
"She's attending to special Kamar Taj business," he replied, making his way towards the weapon stands.
Mordo seized a baton from the weapon stand, swiftly twirling it, causing it to create a series of whooshing sounds.
"Ready your stance," he commanded.
I raised my hand and summoned an eldritch construct, a 23-inch-bladed weapon held in a reverse grip with my left hand. (By the way, I'm left-handed, in case I forgot to mention.) Meanwhile, my right hand assumed a defensive position.
During my time at Kamar-Taj, I immersed myself in various martial arts, discovering which ones were best suited to me. Taijutsu, Jiu-jutsu, Kenjutsu... Genjutsu. If I'm being honest, I might even be a wannabe Sasuke, but that's just how it is.
As our eyes locked, the world around us seemed to freeze.
"Remember, I'm here to push your limits. Don't hold back, kid. Trust your teacher," he reminded me.
"I won't hold back from punching your face, Mordude. You think I don't know you took my ice cream from the fridge?" I retorted, my voice laced with venom.
"A great motivator. Let's begin," he replied with a smirk, tightly gripping his baton and activating its power.
I lunged at him with incredible speed, slashing my blade while shouting, "It has my name on it!"
He countered by swinging his baton, which crackled with eldritch energy and extended to collide with my blade, nullifying my attack completely.
BZZZT! Sparks erupted as our weapons clashed with tremendous force.
"Is that all you can do?!" he bellowed, striking me with his baton, gradually forcing me backward.
Gritting my teeth, I swiftly adjusted my grip to a forward position mid-fight. Our blades collided, and I twisted my hips, executing a sliding kick that sent him leaping back.
Utilizing the space he created, I sprinted toward him at full speed, launching a relentless assault. Our battle escalated into a blur, neither of us allowing the other a chance for a clean strike.
"Haaa... haaa..." I panted, exhaustion taking hold. Glancing at him, I noticed he wasn't even breaking a sweat.
"Ten steps," he declared, deactivating his baton's ability. I looked at him, bewildered.
"What?"
"That's how many steps I took during our sparring match," he stated, an annoying smugness creeping onto his face.
"Motherfu--" I cursed, cutting myself short as Mordo suddenly stepped into the air, using eldritch runes as platforms. He hopped above me in circles, then descended, swinging his baton in a strike that I hastily defended.
However, the sheer force shattered my blade construct, leaving me defenseless as his blow landed on my shoulder.
"Agghk! Seriously?!" I exclaimed, frustration and discomfort evident in my voice.
"It will heal," he responded, his annoying smile never leaving his face.

Magic, a profound force that defies conventional explanation, becomes an enigma when it intertwines with science, mythology, and the infinite reaches of imagination.
Within its ethereal grasp lies a testament to the boundless potential residing within the human spirit—a constant reminder that realms exist beyond the scope of mortal perception and powers surpass the limits of comprehension.
For me, the essence of my power resonates in the realm of mirrors—the Mirror Dimension. As a conduit of this enigmatic realm, I hold sway over every facet of its existence.
I can manipulate the very fabric of its being, shaping and distorting the concepts and understanding that mirrors embody. In this mystical domain, the fundamental laws of physics bend to my will, allowing me to manifest a reality where reflections dance in harmony with my desires.
Mirror magic, a captivating and enigmatic branch of mystic arts, has become the primary focus of my studies during my time at Kamar-Taj. With my inherent connection to the Mirror Dimension, delving into the secrets of mirror magic is only an obvious path for me to tread.
However, to my astonishment, the knowledge contained within the Library of Kamar-Taj concerning mirror magic is disappointingly scarce, leaving me to ponder over the limited resources at my disposal. I could even count it with my hand. A meager collection that fails to satisfy my deep curiosity regarding my ability.
During my two weeks' stay at Kamar-Taj, I not only immerse myself in my physical ability but also my magical abilities, obviously. Through revelations on the pieces of knowledge pertaining to the mirror dimension and the magic behind it, I began to uncover the fundamental principles that govern mirror magic.
Mirrors, as conduits between realms, possess the ability to reflect and refract energies and realities. They hold the power to unveil hidden truths and distort perceptions, revealing the profound interconnectedness of the seen and unseen.
Clink clink clink*
The sound of moving mirrors reverberated in my complex surroundings. Here I was, inside the mirror dimension, floating endlessly and defying the laws of gravity. It was
a mesmerizing sight, with everything I desired to see contained within this chaotic realm—stars, moons, planets, asteroids, and various celestial bodies.
Resting on my lap was a book I had managed to obtain, which I believed would aid me in mastering my mirror abilities. Mirrors. Its properties alone, capable of reflection, refraction, magnification, mimicry, and a whole lot more that I don't even know of, provided clues to the connected abilities, including power replication.
However, I knew it wouldn't be that simple. Therefore, I chose to focus on the more logical and comprehensible aspects for now: the ability to reflect and refract electromagnetic waves, allowing intentional manipulation of the electromagnetic spectrum to varying degrees.
Remarkably, I could even absorb energy through my mirrors. I effortlessly interconnected them with different light sources, primarily the sun, manipulating their wavelengths to generate a high-powered beam. With further magnification, this beam possessed enough destructive force to slice through solid and thick metals.
In layman's terms, I had the power to create a laser whenever, in around a 10-meter radius of my surroundings.
BZZZT!
"Hehehe~" I chuckled mischievously, wearing an impish grin that accentuated my newfound prowess. However, in the midst of my triumphant revelry, a sudden realization struck me. My eyes widened as if a cartoonish lightbulb had materialized above my head.
With a fragment of a mirror plucked from the mirror dimension, I shaped it into a sleek black contraption that resembled an advanced hilt. Gazing at it with wide-eyed excitement, I activated my laser ability through the modified device.
BZZZTTT!!!
"Damn it! It's way too long!" I exclaimed through gritted teeth, taken aback by the sheer force that nearly knocked me off balance. The uncontrollable power of the beam ravaged some of the mirror constructs, a display of my inability to command it fully. It felt as though I was a child clumsily wielding a 0.5 revolver, its recoil overwhelming my feeble grasp.
Deactivating my makeshift lightsaber, disappointment clouded my gaze as I stared at the failed creation.
"I need to find a way to limit its length," I muttered, willing the hilt to disintegrate back into a humble mirror fragment.
"Now, on to the next power on my list... Illusion."
