Chapter 45 - Mr Elvis

[I heard from my men that she has been unusually quiet since she came back. I wonder what she is scheming now by dining with the former director of Henry's Group]

The guy in black blazers was so deep in thought and didn't notice his companion following his line of sight.

"That is the heiress of Henry's Group which recently returned. Are you perhaps acquainted with her?" the guy in the blue suit quizzed as he averted his gaze to his partner.

"I am not that unlucky to have met someone like her," He retorted and strolled towards the stairs with his hands stuck in his trouser pockets.

"That is the heiress of the infamous Henry's Group we are talking about here, so what did he mean by being unlucky?" The guy in the blue suit grumbled. He stole a last glance at Giavanna before he hurried to join his companion.

It was after they had left that Giavanna raised her head and peered at the exact position they stood earlier.

"Miss Giavanna, if you invited me to waste my time then I will take my leave..."

"Since you told me to go straight to the point, then, I won't beat around the bush or sugarcoat anything I am gonna say here," Giavanna interrupted. She didn't give Mr Elvis the chance to walk out on her like he wanted.

"Mr Elvis, I heard that my husband fired you not long after  my mother died..."

"And are you here to rub it at my face by saying I deserve what I got from trying to go against your beloved husband?" Mr Elvis retorted. His already angry expression grew darker.

"That is not true Mr Elvis," Giavanna denied his accusations in an instant.

"In fact, the reason I invited you over is to give you my word," Giavanna started in a subtle tone.

She waited for a few seconds before she picked up from where she stopped.

"I will reinstate your position in the company but under the condition that you tell me what happened to you," Giavanna made an offer anyone would grab without hesitation.

"You would do that?" Mr Elvis demanded. His suspicious eyeballs showed he had little or no faith in what she had said.

"I might have been a bit rude to you in the past out of childishness but I am still my mother's daughter. Why don't you try me and see whether I will keep my part of the bargain," Giavanna's provocative words were enough to lure anyone into her trap but Mr Elvis' hesitation proved that her words weren't enough to convince a shrewd man like him.

"Mr Elvis, all you need to do is tell me what led to your dismissal from your position in the company. Whether or not it turns out that I was bluffing, I don't think you stand to lose anything right?" Giavanna added seriously when Mr Elvis remained silent.

Mr Elvis stared at her for a long time before he decided to speak.

"Your husband has always seen me as an eyesore. To make sure none stood in his way, he didn't hesitate to set me up and use that as an excuse to fire me..."

"Xander set you up?" Giavanna narrowed her eyebrows and leaned against the white chair.

She spared a few seconds and thought about what Mr Elvis said.

Although she has realised how scheming her husband was, Giavanna couldn't arrive at a reason why Xander would go to such lengths to get rid of one employee no matter how hard she thought about it.

"Why?" She demanded more details.

Just then the waitress returned with their orders. Giavanna and Mr Elvis didn't speak to each other while the waitress was at their table.

"You can continue," Giavanna beckoned after the waitress left.

"I sensed there was something fishy going on in the company. Because of this, I paid close attention to him and the sneaky woman who is always around him..."

"And did you discover anything?" Giavanna interrupted, her eagerness evident in her glimmering eyeballs.

"Yes," He asserted. He let go of the white mug laid on the table and leaned his back against the chair.

"I confronted him after I confirmed that he was planning to take over the entire management of the Group. And that is how he, his useless brother and that sneaky lady set me up and used that as an excuse to fire me," He concluded.

He balled his hand into a fist when he remembered how unfairly he was treated and discarded like some piece of garbage.

"Even if that were the case, this alone shouldn't have been enough reason to sack you. I mean your influence in the company should have been sufficient for you to protect your position so how did..."

"And have you forgotten who gave him those wings that he now uses to suppress others?"  Mr Elvis snapped, unable to hide his hatred for her.

'Of course, I gave him those wings and I swear that I am gonna take my sweet time clipping off those mighty wings of his,'

A creepy smile appeared on Giavanna's face as she clenched her fist.

"If he went to such a demeaning extent to have you sacked that means my husband must hate you a lot right?" Giavanna thought aloud.

"Are you going to go back on your words because of that?" Mr Elvis cut in, his eyebrows squinted.

"And why on Earth would I do that?" She hissed, her hands lifted from her legs where they previously lay.

'My life goal at the moment is to drive him nuts by doing the very things he detests so why on Earth would I miss this heaven sent opportunity?'

An evil smirk found its way onto her face as she reached out her hand and lifted the cup of coffee from the table and brought it close to her lips.

"I have given you my word and it's only right I keep it until the end," She added and took a sip from the cup of hot coffee.

Mr Elvis was a bit taken aback by her reply. His widened eyes were enough to show that this wasn't the reply he expected.

"In the past, you always washed your hands off whatever will upset your husband, so how come you are doing the exact opposite now?" Mr Elvis demanded, still unable to believe that Giavanna said the earlier words.
