Chapter 15 - Weapon Training

Rene sat in meditation adjusting his body to its peak level.

It has been a week since he started training his mana control, spells and skills and finally he had been able to reciprocate everything at his rank that Azaroth had been trained in.

The amount of limitations on skills were too much, although not everything was bad as they had advanced a lot compared to before but still they were weaker.

Before him sat his spear, Gae Borg and around him sat several other weapons. There were far more of these, several dozens, in fact. However, Rene had no interest in them. The truth was that he was reluctant to train in any other weapon to begin with.

The good news is that Rene doesn't have to learn them himself. Azaroth's memories that fused with him is of a great help, he doesn't even need to study them again just get his body familiar with them besides his AI would also help him. .

Following the teachings of Azaroth's teacher, he picked up his spear and began to practice. Azaroth's teacher had always said that the usage of weapons and skill in general relied on using the body. One can't simply sit and meditate like they do with the mana control and spells.

Much like every aspect of training, comprehending a weapon was all about the firmness of one's foundation. Therefore, Rene didn't hurry to train a domineering or advance technique. Instead, he practiced the basic stances both Azaroth and Rex teacher taught them from youth.

Just like his unarmed combat skills, there was nothing special about these stances. They were taught everywhere, whether it be the ancient times or even now.

When Azaroth asked why he had to learn such boring stuff, his teacher had replied with a hearty laugh.

"Do you believe that things last forever, Little one?" He asked.

"Of course not." Azaroth replied confused.

"Yet, somehow, from the primordial era to our chaotic era, these same basic stances have weathered the test of time. Little boys and girls your age, be it here, or in the smallest martial school or the most powerful families, they all learn these same stances."

Hearing this Azaroth's eyes widened in surprise.

"Do not look down on something that has survived so long, because chances are, you'll perish before it does."

After that day, Azaroth no longer asked his teacher questions of why and continued to practice with his wooden stick. His teacher could tell that he still didn't have his heart in it, but there was nothing more to be said. Whether Azaroth grasped their importance was up to himself.

The only reason Azaroth actually continue to train in it was because his teacher was a very old man at rank 3 and had taught him everything he knew. He wanted to repay the old man for his help by making him proud and showing his gratitude and listen to everything he said.

In those times even till today the knowledge of the old was passed down through teaching the next generation making sure it wasn't lost after their death. And the old man chose Azaroth as his successor to pass on his knowledge before his death.

Rene smiled lightly at this memory. 'I miss that old man and his teachings.'

Rene frowned as he realized what just happened, it looks like with their memories he also inherited their emotions. He pushed that to the back of his mind for now and focused on his memories.

With it, it felt as though Azaroth's teacher was right in front of him.

The basic stances has two parts. The first entailed attacking and defending with the weapon, and the second relied on foot movement in attack and defending.

The difficulty lay in mastering the pole arm Weapons was that whether it be the halberd, glaive or spear, their basic stances were identical! What a pole arm wielder was tasked with was understanding the nuance of the weapon and where their character differed even in executing the same movements.

Rene began with the first category. He allowed his instincts to carry his foot placement while executing the three basic attack stances. These were: sweep, slice and pierce. He would then continue to the three basic defense stances: push, pare, and skim. Finally, he began to slowly incorporate the proper foot placement denoted as: advance, retreat, sidestep, lunge and steady.

Unlike during Azaroth's time, Rene put his everything into these movements, since he had seen that it was so effective that even Azaroth had to go back to learn them completely, copying the image of Azaroth's teacher to the best of his abilities.

When Rene felt that he had gained a basic understanding, he flipped his stance, practicing steadily with his left hand.

Although he planned to ignore dual wielding for now, he still intends to train both halves of his body equally, only in that way would he be prepared for future steps.

Although Rene was only faintly aware of it now, his mana was making its presence known and moving on it own. Without another thought he had slipped into the first meditation stage, simply known as Meditation State. Once he began to fuse the proper footsteps into his movements, he slipped into the second state, one with nature.

Several sounds of notifications greeted him but Rene was already far absorbed into his training.

If Rene had been conscious now, he would be in awe. one with nature was a state he could only maintain for a few seconds at most in his previous life. Yet, he had already held it for thirty minutes already!

But Rene didn't notice as his arms continued to swing without pause.

He lunged forward, piercing through the air. A moment later, he seamlessly retreated, pushing the butt of his spear away from himself and he sunk into a stance immovable as a mountain.

Several distinct sounds of notifications sounded but Rene didn't pay attention to it, instead he continued.

Rene practiced the basics steps while slowly adding mana into the training. Each of the elements he trained in have shown him different results.

Suddenly Rene snapped out of his state he was surprised but realized what had just happened unwilling to break the rhyme he switched the weapon to his left hand and started over again training the other part of his body.
