Chapter 10 - The Diary of Gothalo

Jorgen didn't know Greshana Prinsche's exact age, but she looked to be over seventy.

The door was opened for Jorgen by a taciturn, tall young man.

"His name is Tyson, my servant," Greshana smiled kindly like a typical old person.

As expected, Jorgen did not get any useful information from Greshana. This had nothing to do with whether or not she was lying.

"I have raised no less than three hundred children, but even so," Greshana said, "I remember the Van Cleef brothers very clearly. Both brothers were obedient, good children, although Gothalo wasn't the brightest..."

"What do you think of his disappearance?"

"I was heartbroken and cried for days. After learning that Edwin had rebelled, I cried again...I just couldn't believe that child would become such a person. Oh, I still have some things the children gave me, and there may be some from the Van Cleef brothers. Would you like to see them? If they are useful to you..."

"I would like to see them, thank you very much."

Greshana had her servant Tyson take Jorgen upstairs. At the end of the corridor was a small compartment with an old rusty lock on the door.

The room was very narrow and dusty. Dolls, balls, textiles...everything reminiscent of childhood was covered with a thin layer of dust.

Greshana did not come upstairs, only Tyson waiting at the door. Jorgen felt uncomfortable under his gaze on his back.

"Mr. Jorgen, it's getting late," Tyson said about half an hour later. "The mistress needs to rest. Whether or not you've found what you need, you should leave now."

"Okay, I..." Jorgen was about to leave reluctantly when a blue leather notebook piled behind the wooden door suddenly caught his attention.

He took the notebook in his hands. The name on the cover read:

"Gothalo Van Cleef".

He eagerly flipped through it, filled with unrecognizable symbols - that's what he thought at first, but a moment later he finally figured it out.

All the text could only be read using a mirror, just as "EV" was written as "V3".

This was a diary written entirely in "mirror writing".

If there had been a mirror at that moment, Jorgen would have seen how shocked his expression was.

"Sir, you cannot take that thing away. Now, you should return home. Mistress Greshana does not wish to be disturbed." Tyson's eyes left no room for argument.

Jorgen had the urge to knock Tyson out and steal the diary, but he did not do so.

On the way home, the images of the two Van Cleef brothers overlapped in his mind.

"Gothalo is still alive," he thought. "No one has known where he has been for over a decade, but now he wants to avenge his brother. The top priority now is to find his next target..."
