Chapter 31 - Chapter Thirty One: Inside Your Mind

The area fell into sudden silence after witnessing what just happened.

Most of them were still trying to process what just happened, they thought Josh was going to pound him into the floor but he ended up not being able to land a single blow on him.

Most of the students up there wanted to see Josh beat the hell out of this boy that they didn't know anything about but that didn't mean that there weren't those who wanted to see him eat the dust even though they believed that the chances of that happening in this fight was almost non-existent.

But just after seeing what the fight ended up turning into, they realized that they seemed to have underestimated Devon without knowing anything about him.

It started with one person joining both of his hands together to break the silence, then another person followed until several students were applauding him, someone even weaved in a bellow.

Devon slowly raised his gaze to look at them before slowly bringing it down with a smile on his face.

"I knew there had to be a reason why he was calm most of the time." The red haired girl muttered with her arms crossed. "But what is in that bottle?"

"Our deal says that I'm free to go if I win the duel." Devon uttered with his gaze now on Izak. "So, I'll be taking my leave now." He added before turning to leave.

"Wait." Izak called just before he could take a step forward.

"What now?" He sighed before slowly turning back to him.

"What was in that bottle?"

"Oh, that was just pepper and water, he'll be okay once it's washed off with water." Devon replied.

"Hmm, I see." The teacher muttered. "You can go then."

"Alright then, it was nice playing with all of you." He blurted with both of his hands raised before he began to make his way to the gate.

"Hey, hold up right there!" The princess yelled from above before quickly jumping down.

'What now?' Devon sighed inwardly before slowly turning around.

"Huh?"

Elena didn't have any sword in her hand before, but she had a Katana blade in her hand now, and she was pointing it toward him now.

'What the heck? Did she figure out that I was the one that took her tiara last night or something?'

Panic was starting to kick in in his mind now, but before doing anything, he wanted to hear what she had to say.

"I challenge you to a duel." She declared.

"Huh?" Devon responded abruptly with a confused expression on his face.

The students upstairs had pretty interesting thoughts about what the princess was trying to do now.

'I didn't want to believe it before but she seems to know him, that or he picked her interest just now.' The red-haired girl said subconsciously.

"We might actually get to see a real fight."

"Devon please say no and just go home." Victor muttered to himself with both of his hands oddly joined together.

"It'll be funny if he accepts the duel and ends up beating her too."

"Well, she is only a first year student while Josh is a second year but I don't think it will end that fast."

"Wait, didn't you hear me? I said I want you to fight me." Elena repeated.

"Uhh, umm…I'm sorry, but I think I'll pass." Devon replied before he slowly turned and continued his walk to the gate.

"Hey, wait!"

It didn't take her up to a second after saying that to pop up in front of him.

'Oh, dear.' Devon sighed inwardly as he had to come to a sudden now that she was in front of him. 'Does she know that I was the one in her room last night? No, that can't be it, there's no way she's supposed to know but I still don't know why she had that tiara on this morning, it was obviously a replica of some sort.'

"Hey, look, princess, I was brought here against my will and I had no intention of fighting anyone until it got to that, now I just want to head home and rest." He explained to her with the hope that she would just get out of the way and let him leave in peace.

"Yeah, I know but this is going to be just a friendly spar and it won't last for that long, please." She pleaded before tilting her head a little to the right.

"Why is she so adamant on getting him to fight her?"

"I've never seen Elena like that before."

"Yeah, she's always so serious, annoyingly so."

'You have to be kidding me, if she wasn't the princess I would have pushed past her now.'

Devon was starting to get a little pissed off now.

"I'm sorry your highness but I still…"

"I'll give you twenty gold coins if you win." She interjected.

"Huh?"

"Yeah, I said I'll give you twenty gold coins if you win."

She had to say that so that none of the students up there would hear but there was someone with an enhanced hearing ability that was able to catch it.

'Her offer is quite enticing, twenty gold coins, that's huge. But still, after facing her last night in her room, I don't think I can beat her in a sword fight so…."

"No." He replied after a while.

"Are you serious? We're talking about twenty gold coins here." She muttered with a disappointed look on her face.

"Yes, I'm serious." Devon replied with a straight look on his face before attempting to walk past.

He had already gone a few feet past her when he heard her say something that made him suddenly pause.

"What if I give you ten gold coins just for sparring with me? And then if you win you can get the extra ten." She offered before slowly turning to him. "How about that?"

'Now that's an enticing offer, ten gold coins just for sparring with her, ten gold coins will see me through for months and that's excluding the allowances from Uncle. Is there really any reason to say no to this?'

After thinking about everything, he let out a sigh before slowly turning to her.

"Fine, I'll spar with you."

"Great." She smiled before she picked up the sword he dropped on the floor and threw it to him.

'Well, no sane person would say no to that offer, unless they're from a very wealthy family, but why is she so adamant on getting him to fight her?' The red-haired girl pondered.

"Alright then, I won't use my elemental ability but you're free to use your toys or anything you might have up your sleeves." She expressed before stabbing her sword into the ground to tie her hair back.

"Umm…I don't have any toys or anything up my sleeves, you already saw what I did in my fight against him, so you'll be expecting it." Devon replied before raising his sword.

"Oh, I see. Well, that makes things easier then."

Just after saying that, she quickly picked up her sword and charged toward him.

Unlike how he acted in the fight against Josh, he got his sword ready just in time to block her strike, but she didn't stop there.

A Katana blade was just the right weapon for her because she was a fighter who preferred swift attacks that would require her to hit multiple times instead of a one-off hit that would require a fairly heavy weapon.

She wasn't given Devon the chance to do anything because with each block he just kept moving back.

He was using every form of concentration he had just to be able to keep up with her but it was starting to get a bit too much for him.

After blocking a horizontal strike from her that was heading to his shoulder, he quickly pushed her back with the idea of trying to create a little bit of space so that he could catch his breath for a bit but she quickly closed up on him and sent a slash down his shoulder.

However, the result was just a small cut because she wasn't going all out but she seemed to have gone all out with a kick that sent him tumbling backward.

'Wow, sparring with Aurora and the others made me think I was getting somewhere, her reaction speed is something else.'

He was still on the floor when she quickly closed up on him with another attempt to strike him with her blade.

He quickly raised his blade out of instinct to block the attack but maybe he shouldn't have been so hasty.

Just before her sword could get to his, she quickly paused and proceeded to hit his sword out of his hand instead.

"Huh?" He gasped with a shocked expression on his face.

Just as his sword went flying she quickly sent her sword slashing right toward him and it didn't look like she was going to slow down.

'Hey, just what the heck are you doing?!' He screamed inwardly before grabbing the blade with both of his hands just before it could get to him.

As soon as he grabbed the blade, his surroundings suddenly changed to a completely dark space.

He was still holding onto the blade but Elena was no longer at the other end, he could no longer sense any force from her side either.

"What the heck?" He muttered with a confused expression on his face before letting go of the sword to see that it remained stationed mid-air.

It wasn't floating or anything, it was just stuck there like something frozen, and that made Devon more baffled than he already was.

"Am I dead or something? But I didn't feel the sword go through me."

"Hey, stop saying silly things, I wasn't going to kill you."

He quickly turned his gaze to the right where he heard her voice come from to see her standing with both of her hands on her waist.

"You're also here?" He muttered.

"Yeah, I'm the one who made us come here." She replied.

"You made us come here? How, and what is this place?"

"Um..this is your mind or to be more accurate, it's a space that I was able to create inside your mind." She replied.

"Huh?"

None of what she just said now made any sense to him.
