Chapter 19 - A selfish God.

"Who… Who are you?" I asked while squinting my eyes for a clearer look.

"Hmmm, you can call me Levern, I am the God who created this world… at least in this universe that is." He spoke in a calm manner while looking down at me like I was a pesky bug that wasn't even worth shooing away.

"You're Levern? Okay… So where are we exactly?" I asked, looking around after my eyes finally adjusted to the light, a lake… The lake came into view and surrounding it was an open field with flowers that bloomed to their fullest.

"You're where humans call heaven, they say it's a paradise only the sinless can reach but in all reality, it's a place only those I invite can visit, and no matter how sinless someone was no human has ever made it here before. You are the first and last, at least while I am God that is."

"So… you really did exist, huh? That's quite hilarious, so tell me why you've called me to this place?" I spoke in a mocking tone wondering how a God could exist but the world still went to shit.

"Swear at me all you want, I don't care. I too once wanted nothing but peace and happiness for my creations, that is why Arnedan was created and sent to earth, it was your kind that murdered him so mercilessly. No matter what kind of oracle I sent they still hunted him down like an animal." Another chill shot down my spine and his golden eyes shot blood red and sparkled while he continued to look down towards me.

"And? What's that got to do with me? You're looking at me as if I was the one who murdered Arnedan. I may have been very homicidal in the past but I never took Arnedans life…"

"Don't worry I know you didn't kill him… that was almost a millennia ago. I simply hate you humans all the same, you always beg me for salvation but when have you ever listened to my pleas…"

"If you hate humans so much, why have you brought me here? Send me back. I have many things to do…"

"That Theodore was audacious just like you… I need you to do something down on Faulner for me, can you do that?"

"Your God can't you do it yourself?" I said looking at him funny.

"Funny isn't it I created this world yet I cannot directly interact or change anything… It's something very simple, don't worry."

"No thanks, I'd rather not have anything to do with a God, I'm sure you'll find someone else who'll love to help you."

"Please free Arnedan… His soul is trapped and unable to reincarnate, I believe it is time to let him go…" As I was about to reject him again his request resounded in my ears and left me in shock.

"Didn't you just tell me that he died a millennia ago? So… so if he died a millennia ago how long has he been trapped for? And by whom? And Why?!" I asked wide-eyed and God simply looked away from my gaze.

"I thought you weren't interested in helping a God?" He started walking away from me slowly.

"You didn't tell me it was to help Arnedan so who trapped his soul and where?" I jumped up and followed behind him.

"I did it with the help of a human named Theodore but he didn't know it was to trap Arnedans soul, if he did he never would've done so even if it meant the fall of humanity." he reminisced.

"Wait… Why would you do such a thing to someone you love?" I couldn't understand.

"You may call me selfish… I simply wanted to stay in the same world as he… A God is a sorrowful being, we're all alone unable to put an end to our own existence…" He looked upwards towards the moon that had risen so magnificently in the sky.

"Still… If you loved him you should've let him go… did you not think about how much suffering he'd have to endure…"

"He was the one who gave up being with me for humanity, I was out of options… What else was I supposed to do? You… You also couldn't let your lover go even in the very end, you lingered around him and he had to watch you die in his own arms…" I blinked my eyes rapidly at his words.

'Did I? Was I lingering around Lu… Right… I made him watch me die. Do I miss him?' One sentence sent my mind into an endless loop of thoughts and questions.

"That… Forget it, what's the point of me arguing with you… where is Arnedan? I'll set him free." I spoke before I was covered by more needless thoughts.

"The statue in his chapel… break it and you'll find a white orb, take it to the lake at the centre of the devil's heart forest and drop it in there, he'll be set free."

"What'll happen to him after that? And what of you?" I asked, wondering what could've changed for a God who kept his dead lover's soul trapped in a statue for millennia to finally set him free.

"From this point onwards any conversation you have with me will be through a fragment of my soul, I will die soon…"

"Die? Why? Didn't you say you couldn't die?" I ran up in front of him and stopped him from walking away from me any further.

"I meddled with the human realm by bringing you back into the past, don't get the wrong idea I was granting the wish of both Theodore and your lover then I get the chance to reincarnate with the one I love as just an ordinary human being."

"Whatever… just wake me up already," I said while looking away from him, I should hate him… he was the one who ignored the prayers of a 7-year-old girl who wished for nothing more than a loving family to come and save me… yet here I am unable to muster enough strength to hate him with all my heart.

The view in front morphed into a spiral illusion, it made my head spin and feel sick to the very pits of my stomach, my heart squeezed against my chest and I gasped for air while shooting up straight.

My vision once again adjusted to the view around me and I was met with a very worried Reuben and a loud Rein fighting with the directors or what was the director's staff.

"Vee! Are you alright? How are you feeling?" Reuben's voice was laced with worry.

"I'm alright."
