I teleported to Becca, "here, have a stamina potion. Do you still want to work on some combination attacks with me?"
Becca smiled at me, "of course! Especially since I will be as good as new with a stamina potion."
She took the potion from me and downed it in one swig. I turned to James, who was standing near by.
"Do you want a stamina potion too?"
"No I'm okay, I didn't use too much of my mana and I can heat myself up with my fire."
I nodded, "ok, but feel free to let me know if you change your mind."
I turned back to look at Becca, "try taking a small ball of water out and I'll charge it up with my lightning."
She held the ball of water in front of her. I took some lightning and slowly passed it through the water. It started to sizzle initially but after a second, it looked the same as her regular water.
"The electric shock will only be felt by living beings…to test it, you should put some of that charged water on me."
Becca opposed my idea, "no! I don't want to hurt you!"
She was too kind, "don't worry about it, I hit myself with my own lightning yesterday, so I know what it feels like. It wasn't too bad, so I can handle it for the sake of our test."
"Ok, but I'm only going to leave it on you for ten seconds before taking the water away."
The ball of charged water slowly made its way to my exposed arm. The moment it touched me, I felt a similar feeling to being hit yesterday. But yesterday, the shock spread through my body and disappeared after a few seconds.
This time, the shock was consistent for the full 10 seconds that the water was touching me. It only stopped once Becca floated the charged water away from me.
It must be because the water is constantly circulating the current so it does not have a chance to dissipate. That was a really valuable thing to learn, even if it meant I was electrocuted for much longer than I expected.
Becca came running up and grabbed me as I was trying to recover the feeling in my limbs.
"Are you okay? That looked a lot worse than I thought!"
I took a few deep breaths to control my breathing, "it was about the strength I thought it would be, but the duration was unexpected. The stunning effect of my lightning will stay on a person for as long as the charged water is touching them, which is much more potent than the few seconds of stunning I get with my lightning alone."
"Wow, so we could apprehend an entire room of enemies as long as charged water is touching all of them?"
"Exactly, it is incredibly powerful! Also, since it looks like normal water after being charged, we could trick enemies into thinking it is normal water and that it is no problem to touch it. Then BAM! They are trapped! And it is only possible when we work as a team."
Becca flashed an excited grin, "we are twice as awesome together! I want to see what else we are capable of! Let's keep testing things out!"
"Well, I can think of a lot of scenarios where you leave water all over a battlefield or even drench an enemy with water and I can pass my lightning over it, whenever it is convenient, to shock people for as long as they stay in contact with the water.
And with your ice control, I think it's best help for me would be to made platforms for me to get a height advantage since my teleport spell only lets me teleport to a place within a 100 feet radius where I will have my feet on a surface."
Becca nodded, "so it doesn't even need to be stairs, just an ice pillar."
"Yep, that is something we will naturally figure out once we understand each others fighting style. For now, let me try teleporting with you, so you can try to get oriented with it."
"I have been wanting to do that! It is like I will also have a teleportation ability."
I walked up to Becca, "I need to be touching you for us both to be teleported. Where should I touch you to be the least restrictive?"
Becca thought about it for a second and then blushed suddenly. She whispered softly, "hold my waist."
Becca was too innocent. I rubbed her shoulders a couple of times before I leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"Don't get embarrassed by something so casual. We will be doing all the real embarrassing stuff behind closed doors."
After she heard my tease, Becca shivered and goosebumps appeared on her nape. She took a second to compose herself, then forcefully grabbed my hand and put it on her waist.
"Ok, I will stay focused from now on."
I too started focusing on the task at hand.
"Alright, I am going to teleport us both somewhere and you try to shot the three dummies with your water stream as fast as possible. This way, we can see how disoriented you will be after a teleport."
Becca put both her arms out, "ok, I am ready when you are."
"Instant transmission!"
It took a few seconds for Becca to realize where I teleported us to and start aiming. It wasn't too bad for a single teleport, but I could tell that trying to teleport her to multiple locations in a rapid succession would make aiming impossible.
"Hmmm, what do you think we can do to help you know where I plan to teleport?"
Becca thought about it for a while.
"Maybe I should be the one telling you where to teleport since you will already know where you will go and can't get disoriented."
"Ok that makes sense, but how are you going to describe accurately where you want to go in my 100 foot radius?"
"If we are in a terrain with a lot of objects, then I could describe where to go by saying near a specific tree or rock. Or maybe I can make my own terrain with ice pillars that you can teleport on top of?"
"Pointing out existing terrain could work, but if we are in an open area like this training grounds, then you would need to waste a lot of mana to make ice pillars and it would be predictable once they notice we only teleport to the top of the pillars.
How about we use small puddles of water you create? Those are hard to notice if you are not looking for them, like how you trapped James without him noticing."
"That's a good idea Nick! I can tell quickly tell you the puddle I want to go to and I'll know exactly where we teleported to."
I was having fun time brain storming with Becca.
"You can even make the puddles into shapes so you can quickly tell me where to go without having to point or be super descriptive. Like you can make a square, triangle, circle, and star puddles around my 100 foot range and then tell me triangle to go specifically to that puddle.
We would only be teleporting to a specific 4 locations, but you can keep changing the location of the puddles before the enemy catches on. This kind of technique only really needs to be used when we are fighting an enemy where we both need to have higher mobility then normal. Let's test it out?"
"Yes, I already sent out the puddles while you were talking."
I looked about the training grounds and they are easy to see when I know what to look for, but to a random enemy, they were just puddles that happened to have a specific shape. Maybe the star one would a little too obvious for a particularly smart enemy.
"Alright give me the word."
"Square, Triangle, Square, Star."
This time, Becca was able to hit the dummies in rapid succession as we moved around the battle field.
After ten minutes of getting used to moving the puddles around and calling out to me. We started to get the hang of it.
Becca turned around and jumped into my arms.
"It is working really good now! We are a great team."
She took the words out of my mouth.
"I'm glad we figured something out. Want to finish up the training here for today?"
Still holding onto me, Becca looked up into my eyes, "actually…I was hoping that me and you could spar a few times. James was too easy. I want to get as good at sparring as possible so that there is no way I fail the Royal mages test. Then, we can officially become a team."
"Ok, I also need to spar get my battle experience up. We will stop once we use up the rest of the stamina potions okay? Let's each take one now, so we can start our spar at top condition."
After we each took one, there would be 6 stamina potions left. Looks like we would be here for a while.
"Alright, that was my idea too!"
We both drank our potions and got ready to go.
