Chapter 11 - Shadow Lurking In The Dark

Looking up at him, Aylin wondered how she would make him fall for her because she didn't know how to! She had never tried to grab a man's attention, not to talk of making them fall for her, so she didn't know if she could do it. No! she couldn't, because the only thing she had now was her beauty. Yes, Aylin knew she was beautiful but this guy didn't seem like someone who was swayed by beauty. He clearly wasn't.

Seriously? What was that woman thinking telling her to make her grandson fall in love with her? People sure were crazy.

"I will be looking forward to it then," He smirked before turning around, and walking away without glancing back.

"Wait!" Aylin's eyes widened as she called after him, she moved her feet to run after him, but a stabbing pain that shot up from under her foot stopped her from taking another step.

"Ahh!" Aylin cried out, falling to the floor, pain marring her features.

Wincing, she moved her injured foot closer to see half of the piece of glass buried into her heel with blood seeping out.

Fuck! She had forgotten about the broken piece of glass on the floor.

Shit! Shit! Shit! it was so fucking painful!

She felt tears stinging at the corners of her eyes from the excruciating pain but Aylin held it back. Instead, she focused on removing the glass from her heel.

If she knew that this would happen then she would have stayed in her room!

Kian stopped in his tracks and glanced behind him with furrowed brows when he heard her cry out. Turning around again to face her, he stared at Aylin who was already sitting down on the floor, trying to remove the glass from her foot.

"What are you doing?" His lips twitched upward in amusement as he watched her trembling hand trying to remove the glass.

She would spend years trying to remove the glass with the way she was shaking.

"I'm sure you are not blind not to see what I'm doing," Aylin muttered under her breath with gritted teeth, her face contorted in pain. Moving her leg a bit, she winced from the sharp pain shooting through her heel.

Raising one of his eyebrows, he smirked, "You know I can hear you."

Aylin's eyes widened as she stared at him, 'Of course, he can'. She thought before moving her attention back to her injured foot. She reached down, trying to pull the glass out, but the pressure caused her to hiss in pain once more.

After many tries, Aylin gave up, she couldn't remove the broken glass from her leg by herself. Looking up, she saw the duke who simply stared at her without moving to help her.

Seriously? Wasn't he supposed to help her or was he waiting for her to ask him to help her?

Wincing, she closed her eyes from the intense pain she felt in her leg.

F*ck! She couldn't let it stay longer, the pain was f*cking unbearable. Her breath was coming out in short, sharp gasps, the burning sensation in her foot growing worse. The pain was spreading all over and she could barely move her foot.

Taking a deep breath, she opened her eyes and looked at him, "I... I... Can you please help me remove it?" She whispered, ignoring what he said earlier. "The glass is stuck."

"Are you sure?" He asked as he took a few steps toward her. "Or you simply can't remove it."

Whatever just f*cking help me remove it! Aylin thought without replying.

Kian smirked, crouching down, he extended his hand, and just when it reached her leg, Aylin moved her leg back, making him raise his head. "Do you want me to remove it or not?"

"Sorry," Aylin mumbled, shifting her leg toward him.

Kian held her leg and without warning, he pulled the glass out.

Aylin, who hadn't expected him to suddenly pull the glass out, cried out in pain, a couple of teardrops falling from her eyes with her hands clutching her dress.

After a couple of deep breaths, Aylin slowly opened her eyes, glaring at him through her dark and wet lashes.

"Now now, that's not the way to say thank you," He said, smiling at her.

"You should have at least given me a warning." She said as she continued glaring hard at him.

"Even if I had warned you before pulling it out, the pain wouldn't have reduced," He said with a blank expression and stood up.

"But–" Her words were cut short when she saw the pieces of broken glass moving from the floor. Her eyes widened as she continued to stare.

The broken pieces floating in the air came together, eventually forming a glass jug!

What the? It was just like it was before it broke!

The glass jug slowly drifted to Aylin and landed gently on her lap.

Moving her eyes away from the jug, Aylin looked up at the duke who already stood up.

"We wouldn't want to disturb the servants now, would we? Besides, it would have been a waste to lose such a fine jug," He said with a smile. "Now you can get the water you wanted to drink so badly."

Moving her eyes away from him, she stared at the jug, wondering which part was the broken piece that she had stepped on. Alylin frowned when she couldn't find any missing parts, the jug looked brand new, like it was just bought. Her eyes then darted to the floor where the broken piece of glass lay covered in blood—her blood, making her frown deepen. Looking up at him, she stared at him with questions in her eyes.

Kian stared back at her, and after some time he raised his eyebrows, "What? You know I can't read minds, right? So you need to talk if you want to know something."

Aylin looked away from him, looking down at the jug, she said, "It's nothing."

Alylin suddenly heard the sound of footsteps of more than two people which became prominent as they came closer.

"Your grace," A man who seemed to be in his late fifties bowed together with two girls who stood by his side to the duke who didn't even spare them a glance.

Aylin, who sat on the floor, stared at them with raised eyebrows before turning her eyes back to him. Didn't he say not to disturb the servants?

"Clean this place up and accompany lady Aylin back to her room, make sure you give her water to drink because she's feeling very thirsty." He instructed as he stared at her.

"Yes, Your Grace, we will make sure to do as you instructed." The Butler bowed once again.

Kian nodded before turning around and walking away from there.

Was he leaving just like that?

Aylin watched him walk away until she could no longer see him.

The man who Aylin thought of as the Butler turned to both of the girls, instructing them, "You." He said, nodding to the girl on his right. "Help the lady to her room, and you, clean up this place."

Both the ladies bowed in understanding, one of them turning to Aylin.

"Milady," She called, stretching out her hand.

Milady? Why was she calling her my lady?

Alylin looked at her outstretched hand and then at her.

Was she going to teleport her to her room? Well... That would be great because it will save her from walking to her room with her bloody foot which she surprisingly doesn't feel any pain from. Did he heal her? But when?

Aylin accepted the maid's hand who helped her stand before taking the glass jug from her, and handing It to the butler who smiled at her, "Don't worry, I'm going to get you water." He said.

"Sure, thanks." Aylin nodded, turning away from his overly broad smile.

The maid didn't teleport much to Aylin's dismay. Instead, she helped Aylin walk back to her room.

Now sitting on the bed, Aylin gave the cup of water back to the butler, "Thank you." She told him.

The maid had helped her clean her leg and any traces of blood even after Aylin protested, saying that there was no need, in the end, the maid said she had to do it because it was her job.

"You don't need to thank me milady, I'm simply doing my job." The Butler politely declared, "If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

Smiling back at him, Aylin nodded her head. "Yes, I understand."

"If that's all, allow us to take our leave." The Butler bowed and when Aylin nodded muttering a thank you, they left.

As soon as the door closed, Aylin threw herself back on the bed, groaning, she closed her eyes, feeling exhausted and sleepy.

Today had been the most eventful day of her life. She couldn't help but wonder how her life had turned just because of one action, she had tripped and fallen into a hole which was a f*cking portal!

Aylin still couldn't believe it, she couldn't believe everything that had and was happening, she wished that it was all a dream, — a dream she would eventually wake up from but somewhere deep down, Aylin knew it wasn't a dream.

Moving to the middle of the large bed, Aylin lay on her side, facing the right, and stared at the window with so many thoughts running through her head. The deal she made with Andromeda, the duke, and how she would survive in this place, at least until she went back home.

She couldn't wait to get back home. Merely thinking about the dungeon made her shiver. She never wants to go back there. Ever!

Speaking of home, what was happening there right now, had Ian told people that she had fallen into a black hole? She doubted that because they would probably think he was crazy.

After some time, her eyelids become heavy and they fluttered close, darkness clouding her vision, Aylin drifted into a comfortable and deep slumber, completely oblivious to the lightning which flashed in the sky, lighting up her room for a second, making out a silhouette that stood in the darkness, which moved after some time, gliding slowly towards Aylin until it stood in front of her, staring down at her. Its shadowy and bleak hand slithered to her face, tracing its fingers on her cheek, before drifting to her hair, twirling the soft inky black strand between its fingers as it watched her sleep.

The figure leaned forward; "Everything will be alright little lotus, we just need to wait for some time. Just a little more." Its eerie voice came out as a whisper, contradicting the tug of its lips.
