"That was exactly what I needed." She didn't need it. She wasn't into spicy food at all.
"Let's go." Alexis led them to a place to get spicy food. It was one of her favorite places, where she had always gone with her little daughter. It was their thing. She placed orders for both of them. Without tasting the food yet, Mia knew it was on a whole new level of spiciness.
Alexis dug in, making strange faces after the first bite. Mia stared at her. Why would anyone go to this extreme to punish themselves in the name of food? "Are you enjoying it?"
Alexis was tearing up. "This is spicy, Mia. It's just what I needed. It's perfect for me." She cried harder now, but continued eating. Mia decided it was best to eat her own food too. Something was definitely wrong with her. After a few bites and plenty of water to wash it down, Mia took the bold step of asking her what was wrong.
