Chapter 13 - reinforcing the shelter

my break ended and I went back to work

I can't keep waiting for Nathan to finish what he's doing, I'll have to make a wooden shovel even if it breaks after I'm done using it'.

I came out of the shelter and took the stone axe and a half log from my inventory, laid it on the ground and split it in half.

"I'm going to need to work this wood a bit before I get past the annoying part..."

using the axe carefully, I thinned the wood little by little until I had a wooden board of 1.25 meters with several centimeters of thickness.

then I marked and drew a line 20 centimeters from the base.

good, that's where the shovel spoon should go, now I have to draw the handle'.

for the handle draw a line in the middle and then another line 2 centimeters from each side of the previous line.

remove stone knife x1'.

with the stone knife I began to carve in the wood, slowly it was getting ahead, very slowly it was taking shape.

ten minutes..., half an hour..., one hour... only after almost two hours of carving, it was finally almost finished.

"It only remains to thin and sharpen the shovel spoon a little more and remove the splinters that were left there".

//huff// //huff///

"I should go inside... I can finish what's left inside the shelter."

'keep the stone axe and the wood in the inventory'.

[received]

...

after entering the shelter i put the grey cloth on the floor and started working on the wood once again, carefully carving on the shovel it took me almost 15 minutes to finish before i finally started to remove the splinters.

it's annoying to remove them so slowly but I can't rush it... it's not too complicated anyway'.

several minutes later I finished my work and threw all the splinters and wood fragments that were left over into the campfire.

"It's finally done... ugh, I didn't think I'd see the day when I'd be glad to see a shovel in my hands".

I think nostalgically about that time when I didn't have to worry about many things and I could lazily lie in my bed reading novels on my cell phone.

haa~ I feel like I've worked harder in these 4 days than I have in my whole life'.

I put the shovel and knife aside, I was tired and hungry so I started to prepare dinner, some fish soup with some rice.

"the water in the first bucket is already empty... well, that's ok, I'll get a bigger container to store the water in soon so it's not much of a problem."

Some time later the soup was ready and I ate to my heart's content, a privilege not many would have in this desolate world.

"fuu~ that was good, it was nice to be able to switch from meat to fish for a change."

yawn~

my eyes felt heavy and I couldn't help yawning, having worked in the cold all day and then eaten a hot meal my body wanted to rest so I did, I went to sleep in my hammock with my sleeping bag.

...

[TIME SURVIVED: 4 DAYS]

I woke up to the cold that accompanied me these last days

'today is going to be annoying... well, I was already spreading it too much'

I heated up the leftovers from the night before as my breakfast and as every day I logged on to the chat to see what the other survivors were writing.

it's amazing how even after all the disaster we are still connected to social networks'.

I sat quietly on the floor, eating my breakfast by the fire.

"people don't seem to take preparing for the storm very seriously... there are still some who do, sure, but most just talk about how they can drink water to their heart's content or complain that they will get sick from hypothermia... those guys are not doing any kind of preparation".

I finished my breakfast in no time and put away the empty bucket and the full bucket in the inventory before leaving the refuge

I finished my breakfast in no time and put the empty bucket and the full bucket in the inventory before leaving the shelter.

//Fuosh//

stupid wind... remove wood x2 and wood axe x1'.

cut the logs in half size and then cut them in half thickness, then place half of the timbers on the ground forming a square.

If I'm going to do this... should I go get more water? no, I'd better go get some water after I'm done here'.

I started by dumping the soil inside and then added water.

remove wooden shovel x1'.

I started to mix and make the mud, then I added broken stone fragments, after that I dug a trench attached to the wall just under 10 centimeters wide.

after that I drove some stakes just at the edge of the trench but without entering it, then I started to place the mud until it was almost at the same height as the stakes.

"remove wood x 3".

use the logs to make wooden poles long enough to reach the roof of the house and quickly replace the stakes with the poles before continuing to lay the mud with stones.

uuh... maybe I should have done this from the beginning... well, it doesn't matter, I don't even know how to make a proper mud wall anyway, I'm just doing something improvised here'.

after finishing with the first wall, I did the same with the other 2 leaving only the front of the house without work.

"This should be enough for today... I've run out of water in the buckets so tomorrow I should buy david the water container and get all the water he can carry from the river".

Putting the wooden shovel and the stone axe in the inventory, I went into the shelter and ate a hot meal before going to rest and finish the day.
