Chapter 18 - indoor work and stalking

I slowly got up from the hammock and began to prepare my breakfast for the day.

like every day I checked the chat to pass the time while breakfast was cooking.

"hmm~ the price of water seems to be going down a bit... there are more and more people selling it after all."

Once breakfast was ready I sat down to eat in silence while I continued to look through the publications and thought about what I could do without much trouble.

something for the inside of the house to help me deal with the cold... a rug I guess would work, I can also start making some wooden furniture'.

"I also have to skin one more rabbit, maybe I could buy some animal fur? that would make things easier.

finishing my breakfast I took out the rabbit and the war knife and started my work skinning it.

...

It took minute after minute and hour after hour before I was able to remove the rabbit's fur.

"I feel like I'm getting used to it, I don't feel as tired as the first time and I think it takes less time than it did then.

'keep the skinned rabbit, the fur and the war knife in the inventory'

[received]

it had been a while since i started skinning the rabbit but it was still a little before noon so i contacted david and nathan to see how they were doing with their preparations for the storm that was coming in 3 days.

[David Crescent: it is going well, however I would really like to have more time, I finished reinforcing the outside of the cabin and right now I am making a drainage to avoid flooding the house].

[Nathan Gaunt: my case is the opposite, I started first with the drainage and now I am reinforcing the house, but what I lack is not only time... also materials, specifically wood].

raised an eyebrow

Problems of lack of wood? are there no trees near your shelter or something like that?

[Red Crescent: do you need wood? I could sell you if you want, but do you really need that much wood?]

[Nathan Gaunt: well, yes, after all nowadays wood is the most basic resource for everyone, we use it to make fire, furniture, wooden spears for hunting or to reinforce the shelter].

[Red Crescent: that sounds very convincing... and the real reason?]

[Nathan Gaunt: reserve for disasters to come, think about it, this storm might be the first disaster but it definitely won't be the last, we need to have a lot of reserve materials in case we can't leave our shelter for a long period of time].

[David Crescent: I think he's right... well, now tell us why you don't go out and get them yourself].

[Nathan Gaunt: ...I'm busy with things in my shelter and I don't want to waste my time going out to cut down trees myself]

"this guy..."

I could only hold my hand to my face in frustration, if that was why I definitely wasn't going to send him wood unless he wanted to buy it at ridiculous prices.

[David Crescent: You're an idiot aren't you...? I'll send you wood but in exchange lend me the shovel for these three days].

[Nathan Gaunt: ok, ok, I'll lend you the shovel... just give it back when you're done]

'now that he can use the shovel david could finish his drainage in a day or two, I have to get on with my own stuff for now'.

I closed the chat and removed the rabbit skins from my inventory as well as the needle and thread I had.

I started sewing the rabbit skins together, several minutes later I was able to make a carpet big enough to cover almost the entire shelter.

...

"I'm out of thread again... really, it wouldn't hurt to buy a roll of thread or something like that, although seeing that I used to buy it by the meter now I doubt they will sell it to me in any other way".

opening the sales channel I realized that I didn't necessarily need to sell water, I had a lot of rabbit meat accumulated and I could also buy other things.

[seller: Rojo Crescent

item: rabbit meat x200G

price: yarn x 1M

stock: 25]

[seller: Rojo Crescent

item: rabbit meat x 25G

price: cloves x 1

stock: 200]

"well, that should be enough to have in case I need to make more stuff out of cloth, animal skins or cotton and I'll need a lot of nails to make furniture"

put the rug away in the inventory for the time being and pull out some wood and the stone axe.

for the rest of the day I set about cutting wood into thick planks and wooden legs for the furniture.

"it would have been easier with a saw.... well, I can only work with what I have, I still have to smooth the boards but that can wait, for now I think I deserve a good rest."

putting the wood and the axe in the inventory again I started to sweep up the splinters and put some water to heat up to make myself some tea.

[transaction completed: you have lost (rabbit meat x 5KG) and acquired (thread x 25M)].

'I already have the thread but I still lack the nails, well, certainly the nails are also useful for other people and there must be others who also want to buy them so I can only hope for the best'.

soon the water boiled enough and I prepared a tea that restored some of the tiredness I had.

...

Outside the shelter, multiple shadows move around, hiding behind rocks, trees and piles of snow, looking at the wooden structure with malicious eyes.

the sun was beginning to set helping in its stealth as the shadows slowly approached the shelter from the front.

...

likewise, a little farther away from those shadows in the opposite direction a person in a white suit could be seen climbing on the top of a tree.

"I'm sorry whoever you are but I couldn't let those wolves follow me any longer..."
