Chapter 7 - working with wood and stone

I started by burying one of the wooden 'beams' at the edge of each of the walls and then one more on each side of the door.

"the beams are in place and are a few inches higher than the roof of the shelter."

'remove wood x5 and stone axe x1'.

I took out the wood that I had already cut previously and cut them again obtaining 10 wooden bars of more than one meter long.

"they are too long to carve something with them".

I cut them in half and kept half of them in the inventory along with the axe.

"These should be fine.

"now to carve the wood... I guess it's no good using my one metal knife, I'll have to make a makeshift one out of a river stone"

'remove stone x2

the rocks were too big to do anything with so I placed one on the ground and dropped the other on top of it.

//break! //

the rock shattered into several pieces, I took the narrowest knife-like piece I could find and with another rock fragment I removed the pieces at the tip, then continued striking for a few centimeters in length along both sides.

//crash/// //crash///

after several blows I stopped when I got something similar to a cutting blade, I took another fragment of rock and together with the previous one I pressed along the blade and removed the splinters scraping it until it was smooth enough.

"fuuh~ alfin I'm done with this, now I won't have to dull the metal knife for nothing."

I put away the largest rock that was still intact in the inventory and with my stone knife in my hand I entered the shelter.

I looked at the campfire that had already burned most of its wood so I took several small branches from my inventory and threw them into the fire, then took the piece of gray cloth and spread it on the ground.

"this isn't exactly the best way to do it but I don't want to keep working outside.. haa~ whatever, remove wood x2 and stone axe x1."

I put the two log halves together and with the axe cut them into triangular sticks and split them in half.

I now had 8 wooden sticks of 65 centimeters long.

looking at them for a moment I realized that they were still too long for what I wanted to do.

"well... I can also make arrows with this and I don't need a lot of wood for the things I want to make now".

I split one of the rods in half and kept the other 7 in the inventory.

soon I started to slowly carve one of the wood and with each slide of the knife I was shaping what I wanted and soon I had it in my hands.

"Hehe, a lot of trouble just to make a spoon... well, now to what matters, we have to carve needles".

I put the spoon away and began to carve the remaining wood, thinning it little by little. soon I had two wooden needles in my hands, an extra one in case the first one broke.

"and while I'm at it I might as well make a set of chopsticks... I've seen in the chat that some people have found food in the boxes they found."

so I spent my time carving over and over again.

Once my work was done I had a lot of splinters on top of the cloth, I put them all together and added them to the fire then I took the cloth and shook it a little bit.

"haa~ that was too much work for one day..."

seeing the embers in the fire I approached a little bit enjoying its warmth

'once the fire goes out I need to throw the ashes outside'.

[message from (David Crescent)

suddenly I received a message notification from my brother then I remembered that I had the rabbit to eviscerate.

[David Crescent: hey red, I'm done with the rabbit, by the way I want to change the deal a little bit if you don't mind].

[Red Crescent: hm? sure, if it's something I have and it's not too much trouble just put it in the price].

[David Crescent: well, I don't think it will be much of a problem, at least for you]

[seller: David Crescent

item: mutant rabbit meat x 9KG, mutant rabbit bones x3 KG and mutant rabbit organs x 4,5KG.

price: water x 1,5L]

"a liter and a half of water? I could con people into working on gathering materials for a week for that! ..but hey, it's true it doesn't really cost me much so it's ok "

[transaction completed: you have lost (water x 1,5L) and acquired (mutant rabbit meat x 9KG), (mutant rabbit bones x 3KG) and (mutant rabbit organs x 4,5KG)].

"huu... I really don't know what I'm supposed to do with the bones and organs, never mind, I'm sure I'll find some use for them."

I put everything back in the inventory and went back to the chat room

[Red Crescent: hey, I have some rabbit soup left over from yesterday, do you want to trade it for land?]

[David Crescent: dirt? i don't know, i don't have a shovel and it would be annoying to dig too much with what i currently have, why don't you ask nathan? i talked to him a while ago and he does have one, and it seems he is digging to make a basement or something].

nathan has a shovel? wow... maybe I should borrow one too'.

[Red Crescent: hey nathan, david told me you got a shovel]

[Nathan Gaunt: yeah, that's right, do you want it? sorry, but i'll be busy for a few days so i won't be able to lend or sell it to you].

[Red Crescent: uh, that would have been nice but no, what I want is dirt, you have plenty of it don't you? I happen to have some rabbit meat soup left over from yesterday]

[Nathan Gaunt: you really want to trade food for dirt? well, it's a deal, I'll send you plenty of dirt, I've been digging like a dog ever since I found this shovel].

[seller: Nathan Gaunt

item: soil x 1 cubic meter

price: rabbit soup x 500ML

stock: 5]

"5 cubic meters of dirt? that's several tons, more than a dog is like a mole."

'haa... I don't even have that much soup left in the pot to buy all your soil".

[transaction completed: you have lost, (mutant rabbit soup x 1L) and have acquired (soil x 1 cubic meter)]

[Red Crescent: really... that's a lot of land, whatever, I'll trade with you again if I get a chance].

[Nathan Gaunt: heh, then there'll be a lot more land waiting to be sold]

[Nathan Gaunt: 'this guy..'

I shook my head and closed the chat, it was late and I needed to rest.
