"Christopher, did you see my phone?" Caroline asked looking around the ward. She was all set to leave for home after spending some time with her kid brother.
"It's in your purse." Christopher said rolling his eyes dramatically.
"What? I didn't put it there, did I?"
"Who knows?" Christopher said folding his arms, watching his sister's every move.
"Well, thank you Chris. Anyway, I'll be going home right now. I have lots of work to do." Carol said preparing her bag and flask she brought. She did not want to leave anything behind.
"Are you sure you want to go out of this ward with 'that'?" Christopher asked pointing to her outfit. He kept a disgusted face, indirectly saying No! No! to her outfit.
"What's wrong with it?" Carol asked snorting. Christopher had never been this picky about her outfits, so she wondered what is up with him.
"I think you should wear a dress." Christopher said, shrugging his shoulders like nothing was off.
Carol looked at herself again. She felt she was ok in her white crop hoodie, blue skinny jeans and as usual Milano Leather Sandals which exposed her fair blue polished toes.
"What's so wrong with this?" Caroline asked worriedly this time.
"Hmm? Fine! Raise your hands up." Chris said sounding more like a command and Caroline obeyed. "You see what I'm saying?" Christopher grumbled pointing at her exposed waist. With her hands up, her fair skin, and navel came to display.
"Tch! No one would see it unless I raise my hands right? Besides, why would I raise my hands just like that in public?" Carol said laughing sarcastically.
"Oh really? I still think you should wear a dress." Christopher said authoritatively.
"Oh! Now i see... You are trying to make me stay longer. You don't want me to go yet right? Sorry, not gonna work this time." Carol pulled his cheeks so hard as she talked.
"Not so. You know what? Go then. I was trying to be a brother protecting his sister huh?"
"Yeah right! Bye baby."
Caroline left the ward, swaying her ass as she walked and her ponytail bouncing in same rhythm as her ass.
Christopher only shook his head in disapproval. He had a reason why he didn't want her to leave the hospital looking like that apart from shooing men away.
Last night when Caroline went to see Doctor Lucas, he was busy playing a game on her phone when suddenly a message came in from Michelle. He didn't bother reading the message but a certain unsent message caught his eyes. It was written: CAN WE JUST HAVE LUNCH SOMETIME SO I CAN GET THE FACT THAT I OWE YOU, OFF MY MIND.
The number the message was supposed to be sent to was saved: JHON, CHRIS'S BLOOD DONOR.
Though, Christopher hated the idea of his sister meeting up with a strange man, he also felt his sister owed the donor that much so.. he sent the message to Jhon with Carol's phone adding to it that he should meet her at the hospital by 1pm and luckily it was just few minutes to one o'clock.
"TSH! It's better this way." Christopher said to himself before lying on his bed thinking of possibilities and impossibilities of his sister's life.
Caroline was yet to leave the hospital when she heard her name from somewhere she was not sure. She adjusted her full tote bag on her left shoulder then looked from her left to her right, searching for who called her.
"Caroline..here!" The call came louder and familiar this time. She looked forward to where cars were parked and recognized a figure... Jhon!
'jeez! What the hell is he doing here?' Caroline thought checking herself out with a bit urgency.
Jhon had received a message from Caroline last night saying they should meet up today at the hospital and then head out together for lunch. He normally would have turned her down but, after reading the message over and over again he felt like she was not asking him to come rather, telling him to. He chuckled each time the read the message.
On deciding to finally show up, he took a good shower after coming home from work for lunch break. He opened his wardrobe widely, searching for what he'd wear with his eyes. When his eyes landed on his black straight ironed shirt and brown corporate pants, he smirked. He had not wore them for a long time.
He styled his hair in mini coils. As a Black American he had a natural thick and long kind of afro but he had lowered them to not surpass his chin. He put on his clothes and wore his white sneakers instead of stilettos. He contemplated whether to wear a wristwatch or not... He finally decided to put on his left wrist a native American beaded cuff bracelet made with brown, blue, black and white tiny beads.
He chose to drive in his black BMW car instead of the usual low-key white Volkswagen golf he rode. He didn't know why but he just wanted to look absolutely cool today. He wore his black sun shades and hopped into his flashy car, all the way to meet Caroline.
Caroline stood rooted at that spot as everyone who passed them kept murmuring words.
"Hey.. to earth Caroline." Jhon mocked taking in his plump pinkish lower lip into his mouth, sucking it as he struggled not to laugh at Caroline's expression.
"Woah! He's dope." A man said, passing by Caroline and Jhon, going towards his car.
"I've always had a thing for blacks. With their afro curly hairs and hot skin." A lady said.
"Is he here for her?" Another lady asked.
"I've seen him here before.. hmm.. isn't he Doctor Lucas's friend?" The other lady asked.
Caroline sure was astonished at his appearance. To her, he looked filthy rich, fucking handsome. If not for the fact that she had actually talked to this man, she would have called him a rich bratty play boy.
"Carol, I really hate attention." Jhon said frowning and staring at the sun. He wore his sunglasses again and pulled the statued Caroline to his car.
"Here.." Jhon said, gesturing her to sit in his car which she did immediately. He majestically moved to the other side of the car (driver's seat) and got in as well.
"You want a bottle of water? Are you ok? Did something happen?" Jhon asked focusing his attention and everything on her.
"I'm..I.. I'm fine, Jhon." She answered. His appearance at this time flabbergasted her and him suddenly asking her these caring questions so lovingly actually comforted her.
"Good. So where did you say you want to take me for lunch?" Jhon asked regaining his smiley face.
"Hmm?" Carol was shocked. Lunch? She wasn't ready for this... She's not even dressed right.
"No idea? No problem. There's a movie I wanted to see with my friends. Let's just go to the cinema instead then, we can get the 'owing me stuff' over with." Jhon decided, fastening his seatbelt. He thought buying lunch would cost her a lot, plus he was a picky eater so he settled for a Movie.
"ermm... Jh..Jhon..?"
"Hmm?" He responded taking off his glasses and glancing at her with his coffee brown eyes which enchanted Caroline.
"Can we not do this today?"
