Caroline draped the folded clothes carefully into the big black bag. The clothes were a bit small that anyone could guess it wasn't hers. She did this happily as a smile rested on her lips, swearing not to come off.
"Hmm..hmm..hm..hm..hmmm.." Caroline had began humming a song contentedly. She stood from the bed she sat on and began dancing to the sound of her hums with closed eyes. She was indeed happy, but what could be the reason behind this?
The noisy rings of her phone soon made her stop her activities. She dropped the small sized yellow male shirt on the bed and grabbed her phone from the nightstand. "Jhon?" Caroline muttered upon seeing the name on her bright screened phone.
"Hello, Jhon.."
"Carol.." Jhon's voice from the phone blared into Caroline's poor ear immediately she put the phone to her ear. Jhon sounded not-so-okay. 'Was he alright?' "Are You there Caroline?" Jhon asked and Caroline nodded.
Upon realizing he couldn't see her, she spoke up. "Hello, Jhon. Yes, I am here and I can hear you well. Are you alright?" Caroline asked, definitely concerned about him.
"I'm not okay, Carol." Jhon said, his voice coming out more like a loud groan.
"Why is that? Where are you?" Caroline asked. She had begun to panick. Her left hand was on her hip and her eyes glared at the ceiling.
"Jade, I'm not fine.." Jhon said, sounding like his pain had reduced. He sounded a bit calm. "I'm at the mall and I just saw a lady. When she got close to be, I began having this ache. Her scent is quite foreign to me but, it still felt like her scent was familiar." Jhon explained.
Though, whatsoever Jhon said was important, it irritated Caroline. A lady? Pushing her emotions aside, Caroline asked "Have you met her before recently?"
"Yes, at various occasions Caroline." Jhon said causing Caroline to sigh angrily. "Urgh! Carol, this strange lady is driving me crazy…"
"Shhh! Shh!" Caroline angrily hushed him. She was pissed.
"Hey, what is it?" Jhon asked. There was definitely confusion in his tone.
"Don't say it like that." Caroline answered pouting. She was getting bold, woah!
"Say what like that?" Jhon asked, his voice all laced with amusement and curiosity. Caroline smiled to herself, she had managed to get him take away his worries with her mere words.
"That..sh..she.. I don't agree with her driving you crazy." Caroline said shyly, covering her smiling face shyly with her hand even though she was alone in the room. She heard Jhon's laughter afterwards and her heart leapt in joy.
"Caroline, you are so cute." Jhon said and silence took over. Caroline was gob smacked. Cute? "Where are you, Carol?" Jhon asked.
"H…home."
"Why? No work, today?" Jhon asked, curiosity laced on his voice. He immediately regretted why he asked. "Oh! I'm so sorry, Caroline. I forgot you.. I… I'm sorry." Jhon apologized sincerely.
"It's okay, Jhon." Caroline smiled bitterly. She wasn't ashamed that she was jobless but, hearing Jhon say these words to her, she felt like a nonentity. "I'm going to find a job soon."
Jhon paid attention to her voice. It sounded dense at this point. He closed his working laptop and took his phone which was on the table, into his hands. He tapped out the loudspeaker and placed the phone to his ear. "Carol, are you alright?"
"Yes, I am. Why would I be?" Caroline replied and laughed curtly. Definitely a fake laugh.
"Ca.. Carol.. I have an offer for you." Jhon said almost inaudibly. "If only you'd accept but, whatever answer you give I'd Respect it."
"You're scaring me, Jhon. What is it?" And truly, Caroline began to panick. Would he call their relationship off? Shit! They are not even in a relationship! 'Are we even friends?' Caroline found herself thinking so. Was she paranoid? No, way!
"Sorry. Actually, I…I.."
"Jhon, I feel so scared now. What is it?" Caroline asked, sounding worried already and Jhon chuckled. 'His chuckling?' Caroline looked at the phone and placed it back to her ear again, definitely panicking.
"Okay, okay. It's a job offer and.. Caroline Hathaway, I want to offer you the position of my Personal Assistant. Not in my office but, outside my office." Jhon said and Caroline gapped. "Hello…"
"Are you kidding? So, what's my job then?" Caroline asked curiously. She didn't know whether to cry or laugh. But one thing was sure, she was so happy.
"You know, check on me, make sure I had my meals on time… and other stuffs that isn't related to my office." He said but, Caroline wasn't replying. "I'm damn serious, Caroline."
"So, I'm your nanny?" Caroline finally spoke. Jhon laughed hard upon hearing this. Caroline was so joyous but, didn't want Jhon to notice that he is the reason she's so happy.
"Not like that, Caroline. You know what? Why don't you go to my house this evening after your meet with your kid brother and we'll sign a contract on your new job?" Jhon proposed.
Caroline took the phone away from her, squealed happily and got back to the phone. "Erm…O.. Okay. I will."
"Good, see you around then."
"Yeah, b.. wait, what is my pay?" Carol asked before any of them could end the call. Well, she was happy about being Jhon's nanny that she even forgot she'd be paid.
"Oh, emm.. how much do you want?" Jhon asked calmly.
"Oh! Err.. how about five hundred dollars per week?" Carol proposed. She didn't want to be tough on him. This was a moderate payment.
"Let's make it five hundred dollars daily."
"Huh?" Caroline's eyes widened.
"Bye, Caroline." Jhon chuckled and ended the call.
With the phone still held to her ear and her eyes still widened, Caroline ran to her mirror and looked at herself. "Five hundred dollars per day? Did I win a lottery?" She asked herself. A smile finally broke through the shocked face.
"Jhon is so good to me. Does he like me back?" Caroline asked herself aloud again. "Wait, I have to go shopping with Michelle since I'd be with Jhon almost all the time." Carol tapped on her phone, searching for the contact info of someone. "Yes!" She found it.
She called the number and it rang just twice before the person picked up. "Yes. Hello, Michelle.."
