After my brief conversation with Onyx, I decided to go to the garden to have some time to myself. I couldn't help but wonder how things suddenly spiraled out of control and the fact that it happened right on my birthday.
Also, a lot of things still didn't add up but something that I felt is registered into my mind is that everything is about to change.
Still lost in my thoughts I didn't notice someone approach me from behind.
"You really love this garden don't you?" Chris asked rather calmly unlike his normal bubbly self.
"Hmmm" I silently replied
"I know that you are angry" he said with a smirk playing on his lips.
"Oh no, I'm definitely not angry at the person who goes back on a promise to a friend and then pretends that everything is normal"
I replied annoyed.
There was a long stretched silence for a while before he finally said
"I know I'm in the wrong here but the gut feeling was stronger ,not because I'm in love with you but because there's obviously something deeper going on and your family can't be trusted"
"Whatever you said I can understand but still this isn't the way to go and we both no it" I said finally then walked away.
The Ovrinoda Royal Family finally left for their country, from the little I could understand from what was said during the farewell was that the joining of our military forces will take place immediately with joint training and preparation for the war. I also saw that the King of the Ovrinoda's kingdom hinted at something about his dissatisfaction with the marriage but it wasn't really clear about it. I could see him and my mom sharing a strange look but I didn't really dwell on it.
But there was something about his voice that sounded so familiar but I couldn't put my head around it.
After they left I returned to my room to read the book I had earlier kept when I was cornered by Olivia and Mom, I tried to walk past them but they made sure I didn't have any way of escaping. While I was weighing the pros and cons of knocking them out, Olivia finally spoke up
"I know you think that you have won and you are going to be Queen but mark my words Ondina, on the day that you are to be wed I'll be the one there instead of you"
I rolled my eyes at this childish approach to gauge a reaction from me but I still kept quiet hinting that I wasn't the bit afraid about the threat or whatever she just said to me.
"Ondina I know you might think that I don't love you like Olivia,but I want you to understand that your sister has prepared for this all her life and she isn't really happy with the fact that she's not going to be queen. I hope you understand " my mother explained. I wanted to counter her statement but before I could Onyx already did
"You keep talking about how this is Olivia's dream but have you ever asked what Ondina's dream is or have you ever kept her as your top priority. Hmmmm… Mother"
I could see that the were both stunned for a moment and Onyx continued with his accusations
"You as a mother left your daughter to fend for herself at a very young age without giving her the basic necessities of life and you still expect her to care of honor your requests. Aren't you a joker .."
"How dare you point your fingers at me you wrench" my mother said clearly agitated.
I expected Onyx to reply or just to say anything but instead he kept quiet and watched how Olivia and Mother ramble about how he was in the wrong to talk down to them.
This obviously pissed them off and they decided that I was their next victim and started pointing accusing finger at me, before the matter could escalate Onyx finally said in a loud voice
"Keep quiet!"
"You both claim to esteemed Queen and Princess of this kingdom and here you are acting and shouting like mere commoners"
"If you both have any ounce of self respect you will excuse yourself from this conversation and leave or else you will not like what I'll do" Onyx said. I really wasn't in the mood for drama so I left while dragging Onyx behind me.
I took him to my room and locked the door behind us and said
"That was really uncalled for "
"I'm sorry for causing a scene but I was just agitated" Onyx said taking his seat.
"What are you hiding from me Onyx, you never keep anything from me" I asked him hoping for an answer.
"It's really nothing sis" he answered avoiding my eyes, if it really is nothing why are you avoiding my eyes, is the secret so big that you can't even tell me" I asked.
This time he didn't even look at me he just sighed and shook his head. I sat down beside him and said
"Let's just go Onyx…"
"Where are we going to exactly" he asked
" Have you forgotten that we are to meet that strange woman today" I answered
"Ok I'll go and get ready" he said leaving
He left my room and I couldn't help but ponder on the reason why he wouldn't tell what he was keeping from me. Firstly it was the unusual way he told me to accept the marriage and the other thing was how he suddenly changed his attitude towards our mother and Olivia. I couldn't really pinpoint what went wrong or what was going wrong, everything was literally just a mess.
I walked around my room which was basically a cramped attic and I remembered the book I saw earlier at dad's study and I brought it out of the place I had hidden it.
I struggled with the enhanced lock of the book for a while before it finally opened. As I flipped through the pages I realized that the book was literally a blank manuscript. Out of annoyance I threw it on my bed.
Coincidentally, Onyx walked in to me throwing the book and immediately he saw the book cover he froze
"What are you doing with that book.."
