Each monster holds a crystal inside of its body that people must extract from them when they turn them in. The stones are called Monster stones. They separate monsters into various categories based on what color their skin or fur is. Monsters always look the same, they are no different from the monsters in the stories. The only time a monster's color changes are when they rank up a grade. An ordinary monster would be a D-grade, the blue color monster represents a C-grade monster, the red color monster represents a B-grade monster, the purple color monster represents an A-grade monster, and the black color monster represents an S-grade monster. A dragon's rank varies from A-rank to S-rank, but any quest that involves a dragon is going to need a full part of A and S-rank adventures. Other than that, most of the dragon quests are above the ranking system since there are dragons stronger than the no-ranked dragons…
Known to all adventures there was a rank that everyone strived to reach, a rank that was above S rank. The rank was SS and all the adventures that reached the rank were certified dragon slayers.
Adventures are a group of people that go on adventures and hunt monsters for profit. Each quest is always a different amount, and they are separated by rank. Ranks were like that of the ranks criminals get. The rank system was S-rank to D-rank with the S rank being the highest. Monster stones sell for a high price because they could be used for different things such as making weapons and armor. That also included the materials for the monster's body such as dragon scales.
In the middle of a grassy field, there was a group of students and an older woman standing in front of a giant forest. The forest trees were tall enough to block light from the sun from coming in.
The people that stood in the field were, Tina Tobiichi and her students.
"All right class, we will be starting the test soon, does anyone have any questions."
A male student raised his hand, "Is there a certain monster, we are supposed to hunt?" the student asked looking at his teacher.
"No, there is not a certain monster you are supposed to hunt, you just have to be out of the forest before dawn, and if the pairs you are in have hunted at least ten monsters then you pass the test."
The class looked at their teacher and nodded their heads, there was not much to say after that their directions were simple. They had to go inside the forest and hunt the ten monsters by dawn and if they did not, they failed the test.
"You may start the test!" Tina shouted, telling her class that the test had begun.
All the students ran into the forest, leaving two students standing at the entrance alone. One was the Shito, a boy who looked like an angel that had descended from the sky. The other was Tenka, the Vermillion princess.
"Well, we might as well get going, so we can hurry up and go home!"
"Ok, let's hurry up then. I want to go to sleep."
"You really are lazy," Tenka said, looking at Shito who was standing directly beside her, he had not moved from the spot even if the area around him was getting hot. That was because he was resistant to the four great elements.
Everything that came out of her mouth was the complete truth, when there was nothing to do, he was lazy, even if he had to do something he would still be bored if the things he was doing didn't give him a good challenge.
"I guess, I am."
With that, the two students walked into the forest together side by side. They were ready to hurry up and get the assessment done already since they wanted to go home and spend their time together.
The two walked through the forest and noticed that light was present in the forest, it was something that could not be possible since the sun was not allowed from the outside.
Tenka looked up at the sky and noticed that there was a sun sitting up there, something that was not supposed to be there.
"Hey, do you see that sun up there?" Tenka said, pointing in the direction where the sun was setting, "They said that there was no sun present in this forest."
Shito looked up at the sun and was struck with a sudden realization. There was no way that there was sun in the big forest but… that was only the case with the sun that was outside. That means that there were two suns with one being outside the forest and one being inside the forest.
I get it now. This is not just your ordinary forest. This is a dimension created by my sister, a dimension that was the same as the world we just came from. That would mean that instead of adding everything she broke it into parts and separated them into different sections and one of those sections is the Forest of Death. So as soon as you walk through the forest that was seen on the outside, you would get sent to a whole different dimension.
Shito looked up at Tenka and noticed that she was still trying to figure out what was going on. He grabbed her hand and pointed at the monsters that were flying around in the forest.
"Can we just finish this, I'm ready to go back home."
Tenka looked at him and nodded her head.
"...Ok, let's get this finished up."
With that, Tenka raised her hand, channeling mana into the area. The area started to warm up because of the mana reaching temperatures that were above three thousand-two hundred degrees Celsius. The steady rise of the temperature caused the flames' color to change into a black fire.
"Black Flames," she said, as her words echoed across the whole forest, the echoes were loud enough that others could hear her chanting the spell.
The flames shot out of her hand, flying into the sky where the monsters were flying in the sky. Black flames covered the whole sky burning all the monsters to ashes. There were about ten monsters that got caught in the fire.
"Don't use that kind of spell again or we aren't going to pass this test." Shito bluntly said, not holding any of his words back.
Tenka shrugged her shoulders, looking up at the sky. The truth was Tenka did not really mind being in the forest as long as she had Shito with her, she was not going to get bored.
"I like being here with you… Do you not like being here with me?" Tenka asked, looking at Shito with a sad look on her face.
"...I do like spending time with you but… I would like it better if we were not standing around in a forest."
"Ok! Let's go ahead and finish this quest, I'm ready to go home now!" Tenka exclaimed, realizing that what he said was the truth. Even though his face was showing no emotion, she could feel the change in his emotions by analyzing him. They had been together for three days, and she analyzed him enough so that she could understand what he was feeling even if he was not showing or feeling anything.
Tenka grabbed his hand, looking into the deepest parts of the forest, she was getting ready to explore the whole forest and she wanted to explore with him, so she had to grab his hand and make sure he did not wander off.
I just noticed that she grabs my hands a lot. Is there a chance that she is treating me like a child? I might like sleeping, but I have never acted childish even when I was a kid. I don't know why but... I really do not like being treated like this, telling her that I am not a kid… would make her stop doing this to me.
Shito looked up at her, his face was still expressionless, but Tenka could feel how serious he was from his demeanor. She started to prepare herself for what he was about to say to her.
"Why are you treating me like a child?"
Tenka was taken aback by what he said, she did not understand why he thought that she was treating him like a child, but after a couple of seconds of thinking the answer finally came to her.
She looked down and thought to herself.
I guess, it's because of how I keep grabbing his hand. I am not treating him like a child, I just like holding his hand. Tenka thought, looking at Shito's straight sandy-blond hair, which was well-groomed and fixed.
The red-haired girl sighed. "I'm not treating you like a child! I just enjoy holding your hand!" Tenka said, in a completely serious tone, she and no way thought of him as a child. Matter of fact it was the exact opposite of that if anything she thought of him as a man of the opposite sex.
"Ok, I understand… sorry for my sudden outburst."
Hearing that, Tenka smiled, walking through the forest. She was going to find more monsters if that was the last thing she was going to do.
"Well, let's go and hunt these monsters then."
"...Ok."
With that, the two students started to head forward—walking into the deepest parts of the forest. There were a lot of monsters throughout the deeper parts, but they would soon find that out as they continued to walk deeper and deeper.
