Chapter 7 - Initial Trial

It was a few fingers with uneven cross-sections.

It seemed to have been torn off from someone's hand by something. One could even see the broken bones and muscle veins on the cut surface.

These fingers had probably been in Glenn's stomach for a long time. There were faint traces of digestion on them, and some fingerprints had even begun to dissolve.

Dave began to regret his curiosity.

It was not that he had not experienced a bigger battle before, but at this moment, he could not help but feel his stomach churning.

Glenn was much more energetic now. He was not surprised by those fingers and scratched his head in embarrassment.

"Cough cough, you should also know that when a person drinks, it is inevitable that they will do something that even they are surprised by…

"You don't have to clean this up. I'll handle it."

He stretched out his hand and snapped his fingers. A small whirlwind suddenly appeared on the ground.

The dirt that he had spat out earlier was all swept up by the whirlwind, and under Glenn's control, it flew into the garbage disposal bin beside him.

The ground had returned to its original state, and it even looked cleaner than before.

"Do whatever you need to do. I'll go to the side and rest for a while…."

Glenn was still a little tired. He nodded at Dave and went back to his lab table. He sat down and lay down as if he was going to sleep again.

".."

Dave felt like he had been through more than one day in a week.

Glenn usually looked like a normal person, but he did not expect that in private...

Did he eat someone?

Dave felt a chill down his spine.

He took a deep breath and shook his head, trying to shake off these images.

Dave only forgot about the matter after he finished the rest of the work and started sweating.

Dave turned his attention back to the experiment table, feeling excited.

For the next few hours, he could finally use this laboratory to try to refine potions!

However, he didn't plan on directly trying to refine the potion.

For one, he did not have any filled potion formula in his hands.

With the magic stones in his pocket, he couldn't afford them.

Moreover, he did not intend to start trying to refine potions so soon.

Successfully refining a potion, even if it was only an acolyte-level potion, to a level 3 acolyte, especially a level 3 acolyte who had entered the academy less than a year ago, was still a little exaggerated.

It would inevitably attract attention and might bring some trouble.

Dave had always been careful.

At the very least, before he had a certain level of self-preservation ability, he did not intend to show too much of his progress in Potionology.

Thus, he chose to refine a semi-finished potion despite the rare opportunity he had today.

The difficulty of a half-finished potion was so much lower, and it was suitable for newcomers.

More importantly, the cost of materials was much lower.

Moreover, even if he revealed any additional talent on the semi-finished product, it would not be too eye-catching.

What Dave wanted to try today was a half-finished potion called Spirit Water.

Although it was made from a psychedelic plant called Spirit Leaf, Spirit Water did not have any hallucinogenic effects.

As a very common and universal semi-finished potion, it could be used in the concoction and refinement of various potions, acting as a catalyst.

The laboratory exhausted a lot of materials. One drawer stored 120 tubes, and they basically had to be replaced every two days.

Even if it were a half-finished potion, if it could be refined, one would definitely not have to worry about sales.

The price wasn't high. One magic stone could buy ten tubes.

Although there was a high chance that this thing would not be judged by the system as an apprentice potion, it was still good to practice.

Dave had participated in the forging of the spirit water before, but he was only a helper. He could only watch the other level 2 acolytes do it, and he was very tempted.

Now, he could finally do it himself.

Mrs. Izu gave David permission to use Lab Six.

This was the only experimental table in the laboratory that did not have an owner. It was rarely used.

It also had the least equipment.

In a sense, it was not even as good as Dave's elementary experiment set…

However, it was more than enough to refine spirit water.

Dave had already prepared the materials. A whole bag of spirit leaves cost him half a magic stone.

The smallest mass in this world, or rather, the unit of weight, was a unit called grams, invented by a mage.

Even though the names were similar, there had to be a difference between gram in this world and gram in Dave's previous life, but Dave couldn't make a conclusion without comparison.

This bag of spirit leaves contained 200 grams. According to the consumption of 10 grams per refining, it was enough to refine the spirit water 20 times.

At the very least, it should be enough for today.

Dave removed the white cloth from the experiment table and carefully washed all the equipment inside and out.

After making all the preparations, he carefully recalled the refining process of the spirit water in his mind.

In fact, it was not complicated. In layman's terms, it was a process of concentration and purity.

However, these processes required mana and mental strength.

At the very least, only Mage-Apprentices could try to refine it. Even if ordinary people had a full set of tools, it was impossible for them to do it.

Putting everything else aside, with an ordinary person's mana, they would probably go crazy on the spot if they accidentally smelled a spirit leaf.

Dave was a little nervous since it was his first time making one alone.

The others might still have their mentors watching them, but Dave didn't have that right now. He only had Glenn, who had just fallen asleep.

He had to rely on himself for everything.

At least he had a wealth of theoretical knowledge and experience as an assistant.

When he stood in front of the experiment table and held the instrument with both hands, Dave realized that his nervousness had disappeared.

He seemed to have returned to the demonstration class in middle school. He stood on the podium with a test tube in his hand. Below him were his classmates and parents and teachers who had come to observe.

At that time, his heart was filled with confidence, so he was not nervous. The entire experiment went very smoothly.

The source of this confidence was his excellent experimental results and his careful grasp of the experimental process.

Strength supported his confidence.

It was the same now.

Although Dave was inexperienced, he had already memorized the process of making spirit leaves countless times in his mind, so he was able to move smoothly.

The first step was to soak a portion of spirit leaves in clear water and place it on the fire to roast it.

The lab table did not have a high-level magic blowtorch, so Dave had to settle for an animal oil lamp.

It was not the kind of animal oil lamp used by the common people. The special animal oil lamp used by the mages burned at a much higher temperature, which was enough to complete the refinement of many magic potions.

When he started, Dave, who was so focused, didn't notice that Glenn, who was lying on the table, had raised his head and was watching him with interest.
