Chapter 1 - Eldric Alvarsson

Young Eldric Alvarsson stared out of the window, his bright blue eyes fixated on the swaying leaves of the trees outside. His daydreaming was accompanied by the monotonous drone of his teacher, who was instructing the class in the ancient and widely spoken language of Arkanish. The language was shared by most humans in the world of Arkanis and served as a unifying force among the many kingdoms, empires, and tribes.

The classroom was filled with students from the same clan, all of whom shared the Alvarsson surname. This prestigious school was reserved for children belonging to the clan, and its elegant structure was a testament to the clan's influence and wealth. Intricate carvings adorned the wooden beams supporting the ceiling, and the polished stone floor reflected the clan's attention to detail and their pursuit of excellence.

As the teacher wrapped up the Arkanish lesson, Eldric sighed and turned to his two best friends, Leif Alvarsson and Magnus Alvarsson. They exchanged bored glances, and Leif spoke up, "That was the most tedious language class ever. I can't wait for the combat class later today!"

Magnus enthusiastically nodded in agreement, "Yeah, I've been looking forward to it all week. I heard we'll be learning a new spear technique, one that originated from the legendary 1-in-100-year genius of our clan, Master Thrainn!"

Eldric, however, was not as hyped as his friends, though he was still interested in the combat class. "I'm excited too," he said, "but I'm not sure why I'm not as pumped as you guys."

The trio of friends shared a laugh as they walked through the school's bustling corridors, adorned with the proud banners of the Alvarsson clan. Their footsteps echoed off the cold, stone walls as they made their way to the next class.

It was common knowledge that all students at the school were related by blood, albeit distantly, as they were all branched out from one ancestor who lived hundreds of years ago. Despite the blood connection, most of the children in the school were not close cousins, which allowed for a diverse and lively environment.

The day passed quickly, with Eldric attending a series of classes ranging from history and etiquette to combat and magical studies. As the sun began to set, casting a warm, golden glow on the school's grounds, Eldric made his way home.

Upon entering his family's grand mansion, he was greeted by his father, Baron Rurik Alvarsson. With a kind smile, the imposing man asked, "How was your day at school, Eldric?"

Eldric replied casually, "It was alright, Father. I learned a new spear technique in combat class today, one that originated from Master Thrainn, the clan's 1-in-100-year genius."

Rurik raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "That sounds fascinating, son. Hopefully, this time you'll take more interest in combat." The baron patted Eldric on the shoulder and headed back to his study, leaving Eldric to reflect on the day's events.

Eldric had always found combat to be hectic and not as fascinating as it seemed to be for others. Despite his undeniable talent and high combat ranking among his peers, he never took much pleasure in fighting, which was a challenging issue to navigate within his battle-enthusiast clan. He often pondered whether his destiny would change once he received the seed later that year, allowing him to wield magic.
